Channie Mae Mitchell

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Channie Mae Ellis Mitchell, 54, of 1445 Crawford Road died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Cross Road Baptist Church, with the Rev. J.E. Boulware officiating. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Mitchell was formerly employed with Springs Industries in Fort Mill and Pharr Yarns of Clover. She attended Emmett Scott High School. She was a member of Cross Road Baptist Church, where she was on the Usher Board.

Surviving are her husband, Hoppe Mitchell; two sons, Hope Anjola Mitchell and George L. Mitchell, both of Rock Hill; her daughter, Selena A. Mitchell of Rock Hill; four brothers, John Ellis and George R. Ellis, both of Rock Hill, Charles R. Ellis of Charlotte, and James Ellis Jr. of New Jersey; her sister, Alice Perry of Rock Hill; 13 grandchildren, two of whom she reared, Shamekia C. Mitchell and Victoria E. Mitchell, both of Rock Hill; and her great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends at the home.

The body may be viewed from 2 to 7 p.m. today at Parker Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

The body will be placed in the church at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

Walter Moore

COLUMBIA - Mr. Walter Blair "Jigger" Moore, 91, of Columbia, formerly of Clover, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, at Lexington Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Clover Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery in Clover.

A native of Clover, Mr. Moore retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1970 after 47 years. He served in the Air Force in World War II and in the National Guard during the Korean War. He was a former commander of the American Legion Post 38 in Clover.

Mr. Moore was a member of Clover Presbyterian Church since 1915, where he was a Sunday school superintendent, deacon, elder and a choir member.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann Sloan Moore; his daughter, Carol Sloan Moore Smith of Columbia; two brothers, Robert D. Moore of Gastonia, N.C., and Hugh Edward Moore of Charlotte; two sisters, Minnabel Moore and Elizabeth Williams, both of Clover; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.

Memorials may be made to the renovation fund of Clover Presbyterian Church, Clover, SC 29710 or to the Third Century Fund of First Presbyterian Church, 1324 Marion St., Columbia, SC 29201.

Lena Morrow

BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. - Mrs. Lena Ruth Morrow, 82, of Hiawassee Avenue died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, at Life Care of Hendersonville, N.C.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Miller Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charles Duyck officiating. Burial will be at Mountain View Memorial Park.

Mrs. Morrow was retired from Black Mountain Center where she was employed as a nurse. She was a member of Kerlee Heights Baptist Church. She was the widow of Sidney Morrow.

Surviving are five sons, Charles Sidney Morrow of Rock Hill, James Morrow of Townsville, Sam Morrow of Casey, Ill. Ronald Morrow of Boston and Terry Morrow of Birmingham, Ala.; two sisters, Pauline Dillard of Spartanburg and Mary Lou Brown of Rosman, N.C.; her brother, Charles Lee Moore of Huntsville, Ala.; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. Saturday at Miller Funeral Home.

James Pittman Sr.

STERLING, Va. - Mr. James Gerald Pittman Sr. of Sterling died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, at Fair Oaks Hospital.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. today at Green Funeral Home in Sterling. Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday at Grandview Memorial Park in Rock Hill.

Mr. Pittman served in the Air Force for 30 years as a chief master sergeant. He worked for AT&T for 14 years as a communications technician.

Surviving are his wife, June M. Pittman; two sons, James G. Pittman Jr. of Concord, N.C., and John Richard Pittman of Charlotte; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 699, Vienna, VA 20182.

Louise Moore

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Louise Belue Moore, 87, of Westminster Towers died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Blacksburg ARP Church, with the Rev. David Rowe officiating. A private burial will be held at Frederick Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Moore was a native of Cherokee County. She was the widow of Arthur Elmore Moore. She was a teacher at Blacksburg Elementary School and was retired from the Cherokee County school system after 23 years of service. She was a graduate of Limestone College and Appalachian State University. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and was a member of Blacksburg ARP Church.

Surviving are two daughters, James Moore Smink of Siler City, N.C., and Augusta Moore Block of Pipe Creek, Texas; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at White Columns Funeral Home in Blacksburg.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Blacksburg ARP Church, 302 W. Lime St., Blacksburg, SC 29702.

Berrel Riley

FORT MILL - Mrs. Berrel Mildredge Elizabeth Riley, 80, of 205 Allison St. died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, at Magnolia Manor in Rock Hill.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Unity Cemetery, with the Rev. Joe Tysinger officiating.

A native of Columbia, Mrs. Riley retired from Springs Industries after 40 years of service. She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Walter Raymond Riley.

Surviving are her sister, Inez Miller of Fort Mill; and three brothers, Alvin Riley of Gastonia, N.C., Lloyd Riley of Fort Mill, and Louis Riley of Bonita Springs, Fla.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Fort Mill Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church Building Fund, 130 Tom Hall St., Fort Mill, SC 29715.

Isla Sawyer

LANCASTER - Mrs. Isla Casselman Sawyer, 91, of Helms Gordon Residential Care Center died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Harold Owens officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mrs. Sawyer was retired from Springs Industries and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Surviving is her son, Delma Sawyer of Lancaster; and two grandchildren.

The family is at the home of her son, 522 Plantation Road.

Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, property improvement fund, 100 Barron Blvd., Lancaster, SC 29720.
