Phillip Williams

YORK - Mr. Phillip Gilmore Williams, 50, of 305 W. California St., formerly of Washington, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Clinton Chapel AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Franklin Russell officiating. Burial will be at Uniondale Cemetery.

A native of York, he was a graduate of Jefferson High School in York and attended the University of the District of Columbia. He joined Clinton Chapel AME Zion Church at an early age.

Surviving are two sons, Ramar Williams and Brandon Phillips Williams, both of Charlotte; and his sister, Mary Hester Williams of the home.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 8 tonight at Wright Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at home.

The body will be taken to the church at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Perry Ammons Sr.

YORK - Mr. Perry Olin Ammons Sr., 34, of 455 E. Old Limestone Road died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home, with the Revs. Joe Edwards and Scott Whitley officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

Surviving are his son, Perry Olin Ammons Jr. of Clover; his mother, Sue D. Pippin of Concord, N.C.; his father and stepmother, Bobby and Judy Ammons of York; three brothers, Lamar Ammons of Florida, Ricky Ammons of Concord, N.C., and Bobby Ammons Jr. of York; and his sister, "Sissy" Crystal Moore of Stoneypointe, N.C.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M.L. Ford and Sons Funeral Home.

Jack Baker

ROCK HILL - Mr. Jack Eugene Baker, 74, of 2134 Marett Blvd. died Friday, Oct. 2, 1998, Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Bethel United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Lewis Bozard officiating and the Rev. Randal Baker assisting. Burial will be at Laurelwood Cemetery.

Mr. Baker was a native of Rock Hill. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and was retired from Hoescht Celanese Corp., where he worked in the Bobbins store for more than 22 years. He was a square dance round caller.

Surviving are his wife, Betty S. Baker; his daughter, Terri B. Alford of York; two brothers, the Rev. Randal Baker of Lewisville and Thomas L. Baker of Rock Hill; his sister, Audrey B. Adkins of Rock Hill; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the cemetery after the service.

Memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church building fund, 1232 Curtis St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Greene Funeral Home is in charge.

Martha Burwell

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Martha Anita Stone Burwell of 1291 Falls Road died Friday, Oct. 2, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Cauthen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. William C. Pender officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Burwell was the owner and operator of Country Pines Florist and Greenhouses. She was a member of Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher. She served on the Rock Hill School Board for more than 10 years.

Surviving are two sons, Edward L. Burwell IV of Rock Hill and the Rev. John B. Burwell of Sullivan's Island; two brothers, John Stone and Mark Stone of Virginia Beach, Va.; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, 421 Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730 or to Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Perry Holsclaw

YORK - Mr. Perry Richard Holsclaw, 61, of Cedar Acres Road died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be 5 p.m. today at York Funeral Home, with the Rev. Todd Reynolds officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Holsclaw was a self-employed plumber. He was a member of the South Carolina National Guard. He was a member of Glory Land Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Helen Harper Holsclaw; and three sisters, Ada H. Snipes of Rock Hill, Sue H. Moose and Cora Mae Hoslclaw, both of York.

The family will receive friends from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. today at York Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his sister, Sue H. Moose, 10 Private St., York.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 6604, Columbia, SC 29260.

Ida Johnson

FORT MILL - Mrs. Ida Monteith Johnson, 94, of 114 Forrest St. died Friday, Oct. 2, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Fort Mill Church of God, with the Revs. Greg Thompson and Edgar McCall officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn West in Charlotte.

Mrs. Johnson was retired from Springs Industries. She was a member of Fort Mill Church of God.

Surviving are three sons, John Monteith of Charlotte, Max Monteith and Perry Monteith, both of Bryson City, N.C.; her daughter, Patricia Whitley of Fort Mill; two stepsons, William Spurlin of Charlotte and Ted Spurlin of New York; her brother, Wayne Walker of Bryson City, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home and at other times at home.

Carolyn McManus

LANCASTER - Mrs. Carolyn Catoe McManus, 70, of Pageland Highway died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The memorial service will be 3 p.m. Monday at Mahaffey Funeral Home, with the Revs. Thurman Johnson and Bob Catoe officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Baptist Church cemetery.

Mrs. McManus was a homemaker and a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church.

Surviving are her daughter, Joyce McManus of Lancaster; two sisters, Catherine Inman of Martinsville, Va., and Lillian Deese of Lancaster; two half sisters, Faye Lucas and Eva Adams, both of Lancaster.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Monday.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 64, Fort Lawn or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1142, Lancaster, SC 29730.
