Allen Gardner
KERSHAW - Mr. Allen B. Gardner, 80, of 227 W. Third St. died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1998, at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Buffalo Baptist Church, with the Revs. Bill Morris and Donald Coppedge officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Born in Kershaw, Mr. Gardner was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and a Sunday school teacher. He was retired from Springs Industries after 39 years of service.
Surviving are his wife, Martha Dunn Gardner; two sons, Gary A. Gardner of Heath Springs and James A. Gardner of Lancaster; two daughters, Louise Faulkenberry of Mount Holly, N.C., and Judy Polson of Kershaw; three sisters, Evelyn Stewart of Lancaster, Doris Horton of Bethune and Edna Bradley of Lugoff; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Buffalo Baptist Church, 6390 Lockhart Road, Kershaw, SC 29067.
Cauthen Funeral Home is in charge.

Robert Gore
COLUMBIA - Mr. Robert "Bobby" Gore, 45, of 2004 Burton St., formerly of 107 Stewart St. in Chester, died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, at Baptist Medical Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Gill Creek Baptist Church in Columbia, with the Rev. Samuel T. Ross-Lee officiating and the Revs. Dr. W.G. Boulware, Alonzo Gregory, Lewis Gunter and evangelist Tony Nelson Young assisting. Burial will be at Lincoln Cemetery.
A Chester native, Mr. Gore graduated from Finley Senior High School and Friendship Junior College and attended Benedict College. He was an employee of the state Department of Corrections for 25 years. He was a member of Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity. He was a member of the Gill Creek Baptist Church, where he served on trustee board. He was a member of the S.C. Federation of Youth, where he was an advisor.
Surviving are his wife, Janice Wilson Gore of the home; his son, Robert Gore Jr. of the home; his daughter, Natoya Gore of the home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James A. Gore of Chester; two brothers, James E. Gore and George Allen Gore, both of Chester; and his sister, Cathy Thompson of Heath Springs.
The family will receive friends at 6 tonight at Gore's Funeral Home in Chester.

Susie Lackey
CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Susie McGee Lackey, 81, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1998, at Mecklenburg Health Care Center.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Laurelwood Cemetery in Rock Hill.
Born in Rock Hill, Mrs. Lackey retired from Nebel Knitting Co. and was a member of Berry Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving are her son, Jim McGee of Fort Mill; her daughter, Myrna Hendrix of Lawrenceville, Ga.; her sister, Jessie G. Rogers of Tryon, N.C.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Whitesell-Wolfe Funeral Home is in charge.

Geneva Pickett
ROCK HILL - Mrs. Geneva McDuffie Pickett, 92, of 1054 S. Stonewall St. died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1998, at her home.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. W.W. Thompson officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A Fairfield County native, Mrs. Pickett was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church, the Union Aide Society, the AP&B Society, the Eastern Star, the senior choir and the missionary society. She attended Fairfield County public schools.
Surviving are her grandson, Thomas Gordon Sr. of Rock Hill; five granddaughters, Patricia Gordon of West Orange, N.J., Loretta Siegler, Janie Peterson, Dietta Cunningham and Terry Pickett, all of Rock Hill; 22 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home.
The body may be viewed from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Robinson Funeral Home and will be placed in the church at noon Saturday.

Homer Spinks
FORT MILL - Mr. Homer Alexander Spinks, 74, of 1063 Deas St. died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Grandview Memorial Park, with the Rev. Tom Pietila officiating. A memorial service will be noon today at Woodland United Methodist Church.
Born in Fort Mill, Mr. Spinks retired from Springs Industries after 47 years and worked for Food Lion for nine years after retirement.
He was a World War II Marine veteran and later retired from the National Guard. He was a member of Woodland United Methodist Church, where he was in the Wingate Sunday school class. He was a Mason at Lodge No. 385 in Rock Hill.
Surviving are his wife, Constance Greene Spinks of Rock Hill; his daughter, Connie Spinks Thompson of Rock Hill; his brother, Bill Spinks of Fort Mill; his sister, Virginia Kissiah of Fort Mill; three grandchildren; a step-granddaughter; and his great-grandchild.
Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, S.C. Chapter, 1817 Gadsen St., Columbia, SC 29201 or to Woodland United Methodist Church, 801 Cherry Road, Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Glenn Stricker Jr.
ROCK HILL - Mr. Henry Glenn Stricker Jr., 50, of 1213 Virginia Dare died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1998, at his home.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Northside Baptist Church, with Dr. Jerry Sosebee officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.
A Chester native, Mr. Stricker was a member of Northside Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, Sunday school superintendent, outreach director and Sunday school teacher. He was an Army veteran and served during Vietnam. He enjoyed the outdoors, particularly softball.
Surviving are his wife, Kathy Crump Stricker of the home; two sons, Christopher Stricker of the home and Jeff Stricker of Rock Hill; his stepdaughter, Allison Ramsey of Nashville, Tenn.; his mother, Katherine Hancock Stricker of Chester; his brother, Robert M. Stricker of Chester; and two sisters, Brenda Boyd and Nancy Hall, both of Chester.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to Northside Baptist Church, 1140 Curtis St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Josephine Torrence
ROCK HILL - Miss Josephine Torrence, 91, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1998, at White Oak Manor.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church Cemetery, with the Revs. Robert Jack and Roy W. Coker officiating.
Born in Pineville, N.C., Miss Torrence was a member of Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church. She retired from Springs Industries, where she was a member of the Springs Senior Citizens Group.
Surviving are three nieces and two nephews.
The family will receive friends after the service at the Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church's Choate Family Room.

Edna Vea
YORK - Mrs. Edna Crump Vea, 75, of 2322 Kingsburry Road died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1998, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Steelberry United Methodist Church in Charlotte, with the Rev. Nicholest Rochester officiating and the Revs. Rick Stansile and Benny Helms assisting. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.
Born in Mount Holly, N.C., Mrs. Vea was a homemaker.
Surviving are her husband, Pedro Vea; four sons, Jack Vea of Matthews, N.C., Robert Kaps of Clover, Charles Tacorda of Blytheville, Ark., and Harley Vea of Charlotte; two daughters, Susan Seegel of Pittsburgh and Judy Ashe of York; her brother, James B. Crump of Indian Trail, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at York Funeral Home.

Lane Watts
SUMTER - Mrs. Lane Rose Watts, 55, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 1998, at her home.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home, with Dr. Daniel Moore and the Revs. Bill Johnson and Patty Griffith Fallaw officiating. Burial will be at Sumter Cemetery.
Born in Kershaw County, Mrs. Watts was a member of Westside Baptist Church in Sumter and Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Rock Hill. She was a graduate of Camden High School and the American Technology Institute. She retired from Tuomey Regional Medical Center as a medical technologist.
Surviving are her husband, Joseph "Bennie" Watts; her daughter, Barbara B. Fulford of Sumter; two stepdaughters, Jackie Powers of Gainesville, Ga., and Gwen Patterson of Lakeland, Ga.; her mother of Sumter; her brother, Stanley Rose of Rock Hill; her sister, June Pritchard of Sumter; and five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home and at other times at the home, 108 Curtiswood Drive.
Memorials may be made to Tri-County Hospice, 19-B West Calhoun St., Sumter, SC or to the American Diabetes Association.

Joseph Jarmatcki Jr.
CHARLOTTE - Mr. Joseph Paul Jarmatcki Jr., 32, of Charlotte died Friday July 3, 1998, from injuries suffered in a wreck.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. today in Parma, Ohio. A memorial service will be 7 p.m. Monday at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, 3028 Providence Road in Charlotte.
Mr. Jarmatcki was a Cleveland, Ohio, native and was the executive chef at the River Hills Country Club in Lake Wylie. He served a chef apprenticeship at Swingo's Keg & Quarter Hotel and was a chef at three Ohio restaurants before becoming executive chef at the Marion Ohio Country Club. He moved to Charlotte in 1989, where he was chef at the Cabarrus Country Club and held a similar position at the Park Hotel and the Peninsula Club.
He was president of the Charlotte Chapter of the American Culinary Federation, where he was named chef of the year last year. He held several offices in the federation, including sergeant at arms and chairman of the president's ball.
He also was a member of the board of directors for the Charlotte Community Kitchen and a member of the March of Dimes Gourmet Chef's Auction, Festival of Trees. He worked with middle and high school students promoting good nutrition and career opportunities in culinary arts.
Surviving are his wife, Amy Jarmatcki; his father, Joseph Paul Jarmatcki Sr. of Cleveland; and two brothers.
