Larry Thorne

ROCK HILL - Mr. Larry Thorne of 542 Whitner St. died Tuesday, July 7, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Robinson Funeral Home, with Brother Charles Watkins officiating. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Thorne was a graduate of Rock Hill High School and attended the University of South Carolina. He worked with the Salvation Army.

Surviving are two daughters, LaToyna Throne and Tamia Holley, both of Rock Hill; his mother, Helen Throne Ealy of Rock Hill; his sister, Helen D. Ealy of Rock Hill; three brothers, Reginald Ealy and Dereck L. Ealy, both of Rock Hill, and Andie Campbell of Lancaster.

The body may be viewed from 5 to 6 tonight at Robinson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at home.

Bessie White

FORT MILL - Mrs. Bessie Crockett White of 233 Cinda St. died Saturday, July 4, 1998, at her home.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at James Chapel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Karry White officiating and the Revs. George Lowry and Loretta Adams assisting. Burial will be at Green Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. White was a native of York County. She attended public schools in York and Lancaster counties. She was a member of Red Oak AME Zion Church, where she was a member of the choir. She was a former employee of Cone Mills in Pineville. She was a homemaker.

Surviving are her husband, Cardoza White III; three sons, Billy Crockett of Rock Hill, and Bernard White and Teddy White, both of Fort Mill; her daughter, Sherleen White of Fort Mill; four sisters, Minnie Davis and Maggie Boular, both of Rock Hill, and Thelma Barber and Mary Massey, both of Charlotte; and two brothers, Audrey Crockett Jr. and James Crockett, both of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. today at James Chapel Baptist Church and at other times at the home.

Robinson Funeral Home is in charge.

Mattie Patrick

CHESTER - Mrs. Mattie Lee Flournoy Patrick, 79, of 709 Meadowbrook died Wednesday, July 8, 1998, at the home of her son in Fredericksburg, Va.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Barron Funeral Home, with the Rev. Donald Scoggins officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

Mrs. Patrick was retired from Campbell Soup Co. in Sumter. She was the widow of John Wallace Patrick Sr. She attended St. Pauls Presbyterian Church and was a graduate of Stovall, Ga., High School.

Surviving are two sons, John W. Patrick Jr. of Fredericksburg, Va., and James W. Patrick of Chester; two daughters, Daisy Vilorio of Chester and Sandra Caples of Florence; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Barron Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, 710 Meadowbrook Road, Chester, SC 29706.

Johnny Ashley

INDIAN LAND - Mr. Johnny Howard Ashley, 72, of 7025 Henry Harris Road died Wednesday, July 8, 1998, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Osceola United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bert Watson officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Ashley was a native of Lancaster County and was a member of Osceola United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two brothers, Albert Ashley of Indian Land and Fred Ashley of Great Falls; his stepbrother, Sam Pettus of Fort Mill; his sister, Ruby Jackson of Indian Land; and his stepsister, Juanita Morris of Indian Land.

The family will receive friends following the service and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Osceola United Methodist Church, 6575 Lancaster Highway, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Mickey Cagle

CONOVER, N.C. - Mr. Mickey Jay Cagle, 58, of 6th Street Circle N.E., died Monday, July 6, 1998, at home.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Catawba Memorial Park, with the Rev. Homer Greene officiating.

Mr. Cagle was a plant manager for 20 years at Shuford Mills.

Surviving are his wife, Jackie R. Cagle; two sons, Mitchell Cagle of Statesville, N.C., and Danny Cagle of Clarksville, Va.; his daughter, Kimerly Boulware of Greensboro, N.C.; his mother, Margaret Burris Cagle of Fort Mill; six sisters, Helen Bratton and Dedria Cagle, both of York, Nancy Atkins of Gold Hill, N.C., Tommie Efird of Troy, N.C., Judy Rowland of Kannapolis, N.C., and Terri Meisnheimer of Fort Mill; and three grandchildren.

Catawba Funeral Home is in charge.

Paul Ferguson

PEORIA, Ariz. - Mr. Paul Kenneth Ferguson, 72, formerly of York, died Monday, July 6, 1998.

A memorial service will be Friday at Youngtown United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Clinton, Minn.

A native of Gastonia, N.C., Mr. Ferguson was retired from the Navy and a former owner of a small engine repair shop in York. He was president of the Flying Wheels Motorcycle Club and an active member of the Youngtown United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Ferguson; three daughters, Leann Odegaard of Starbuck, Minn., Laurie Routolo of Goodyear, Ariz., and Lynda Tyner of Charleston; his sister, Thelma Holland; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 339 E. Main St., Rock Hill, SC 29730 or Youngtown United Methodist Church, 113th Ave. and Alabama, Youngtown, AZ 85363.

Best Funeral Service is in charge.

James Gray

ROCK HILL - Mr. James Robert "Bobby" Gray, 60, of 950 Kemper Circle died Tuesday, July 7, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Greene Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lester Parrish officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

A native of Blenheim, Mr. Gray was of the Baptist faith. He worked with the South Carolina Department of Transportation for 17 years as a mechanic. He was owner and operator of the Outback Sports Bar in Fort Mill.

Surviving are his wife, Judith Farris Gray; his son, Edward Gray Williams of Rock Hill; two daughters, Debbie Denton of Myrtle Beach and Wanda Williams of Rock Hill; four brothers, John T. Gray of Latta and William L. Gray, Ray Allen Gray and Billy T. Gray, all of Blenheim; his sister, Francis G. Bryant of Darlington; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Bessie Lowery

CLOVER - Mrs. Bessie B. Lowery of 1148 Tom Joye Road died Wednesday, July 8, 1998, at home.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Wright Funeral Home.

Preston Mathis

CLOVER - Mr. Preston Lamar Mathis, 56, of Apartment 201 Stonegate died Wednesday, July 8, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charles Poore officiating. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery.

Mr. Mathis was retired from Ticaro Textile. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Clover.

Surviving are his wife, Jane Thomas Mathis; his brother, Kevin G. Mathis of Kings Mountain, N.C.; three sisters, Pauline M. Gunn of Demorest, Ga., Lura Mae Lingafelt of Gastonia, N.C., and Ophelia Bickham of Odessa, Texas.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M.L. Ford and Sons Funeral Home in Clover.

Tommy McMoore

COVINA, Calif - Mr. Tommy McMoore, 60, formerly of Fort Mill, died Friday, July 3, 1998.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Forest Lawn Funeral Home.

Mr. McMoore was a former member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and attended the George Fish High School. He served 20 years in the Army.

Surviving are his son, Willie Thompson of Charlotte; his daughter, Terry McMoore of Sumter; four sisters, Bessie Hart of Charlotte, Essie Mae Barnett of Rock Hill, Charlene McMoore of Richmond, Va., and Helen Hunt of Washington.

Robinson Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
