Louise McManus

GREER - Mrs. Louise Sanders McManus, 83, of 116 Blue Ridge Drive died Wednesday, July 15, 1998, at Skylyn Place Nursing Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Wood Mortuary, with the Rev. Kyle Allen officiating. Burial will be at Wood Memorial Park.

A homemaker, Mrs. McManus was the widow of Henry Plyler McManus. She was a native of Chester County and a member of First Presbyterian Church in Greer.

Surviving are two sons, Dr. Samuel Plyler McManus of Huntsville, Ala., and Henry Stephen McManus of Columbus, N.C.; her daughter, Sylvia McManus Maw of Spartanburg; three sisters, Mrs. George Ramsey, Mrs. Jordan Watts and Mrs. Maurice Moore, all of Edgemoor; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the Wood Mortuary.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 119 South Main St., Greer, SC 29650 or the Henry Plyler and Louise Sanders McManus Scholarship Fund, University of Alabama, Huntsville, AL 35889 or the UAH Foundation/McManus Scholarship, 122 Alumni House, Huntsville, AL 35889.

Sylvester Williams

ROCK HILL - Mr. Sylvester Williams, 30, of 1103 Crawford Road died Sunday, July 12, 1998, in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Rose of Sharon Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ralph Cunningham officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

Mr. Williams was employed with General Tire Continental in Charlotte. He was a graduate of Rock Hill High School, where he was gifted in artistic abilities and won many awards. He was a member of Chestnut Grove AME Zion Church.

Surviving are his parents, Charles R. Williams Sr. and Emma Ruth Williams, both of the home; two brothers, Charlie R. Williams Jr. of the home, and Bobby J. Williams of Rock Hill; and four sisters, Annie D. Williams and Emma Ruth Williams, both of the home, and Emma P. McCullough and Jannette W. Williams, both of Rock Hill.

The body may be viewed from 5 to 6 p.m. today at Robinson Funeral Home and the family will receive friends at home.

The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Friday.

Robinson Funeral Home is in charge.

Delores Downer

FORT MILL - Ms. Delores Marie Downer, 74, of 411 Sweet Gum Drive died Wednesday, July 15, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Tega Cay Community Church, with Pastor Richard Hamm officiating. Burial will be private.

Ms. Downer was a member of the Cathedral of the Cross Church in Tega Cay and a member of the Women's Aglow Fellowship.

Surviving are two sons, John C. Walters of Fort Mill and Al Shumskis of Walden, N.Y.; two daughters, Barbara Fieldhouse of Fort Mill and Mary Shumskis Degeneffe of De Pere, Wis.; her brother, Leo Downer of Las Vegas; and eight grandchildren.

The family will receive friends after the service.

Greene Funeral Home is in charge.

Val Elliott

SHELBY, N.C. - Mr. Val Elliott, 87, of 2632 Tan Yard Road died Thursday, July 16, 1998, at home.

A graveside service will be 9 a.m. Saturday at Elliott Cemetery, with the Rev. Lawton Neely officiating.

A native of Rutherford County, Mr. Elliott was a self-employed farmer and a member of Big Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving are his son, Nelson Elliott of the home; two daughters, Sara Hill of Rock Hill and Katherine Horne of Polkville, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Cleveland Funeral Services, 2518 W. Dixon Blvd., Shelby.

Floyd Marsh

CHESTER - Mr. Floyd Marsh, 56, of 2740 W. Chester Road died Thursday, July 16, 1998, at South Carolina Baptist Medical Center in Columbia.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bob Craven officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Marsh was employed since 1985 as an animal control officer in Chester County. He later became litter control supervisor in charge of recycling centers and work crews and was Adopt-a-Highway coordinator for Chester County. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and assistant Sunday school teacher of the men's Bible class. He was a graduate of Richland County schools.

Surviving are his wife, Alma D. Marsh; his son, Randall Scott Marsh Sr. of Chester; two daughters, Lisa Marsh Grant and Jennifer Marsh Lancaster, both of Chester; three brothers, Albert Marsh and Curtis Marsh, both of Blythewood, and Haskell Marsh of Elgin; four sisters, Louise Baker of Columbia, Verlie Wymer of Ridgeway, Claudia Wilson of Elgin and Lucille Shirah of Blythewood; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.

John Mauney Sr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. John Wilbur Mauney Sr., 69, of 771 Cambridge Circle died Wednesday, July 15, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Oakdale Baptist Church, with the Revs. Joe Bridges, Steve Kirby, Garner Koch and Miner Gaskins officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Race Path Baptist Church cemetery in Ellenboro, N.C.

Mr. Mauney was a retired manager for A&P Food Stores in Rock Hill, Fort Mill and other locations. He was a member of Catawba Baptist Church and was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict.

Surviving are his wife, Joan Melton Mauney; his son, John W. Mauney Jr. of Rock Hill; two daughters, Kathy M. Adair and Sandra Elizabeth M. Federsel, both of Rock Hill; his brother, Clyde H. Mauney of Ellenboro; his sister, Virginia M. Rippy of Lowell, N.C.; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his daughter, Sandra Federsel, 499 Peachtree Road, Rock Hill.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, P.O. Box 212634, Columbia, SC 29221-2634.

Arnetta McKee

CHARLOTTE - Ms. Arnetta McKee, 38, of 311 Katonah Ave. died Sunday, July 12, 1998, at Presbyterian Hospital.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Little Rock AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Louise Smith officiating. Burial will be at Beasley's Memorial Garden in Mount Holly, N.C.

Surviving are two sons, Thomas McKee and Vincent Price, both of Charlotte; two daughters, Monicka McKee and Latavia McKee, both of Charlotte; her father, Albert Heath of Rock Hill; her mother, Geraldine Jones of Charlotte; three brothers, Cornelius Heath and Tyrone Bogers, both of Charlotte, and Mario Heath of Rock Hill; six sisters, Melody Heath, Patina Jones, Priscilla Jones, Kissa Casseles and Galanda Casseles, all of Charlotte, and Tawanda Barber of Rock Hill; her grandmother, Mozell Cloud of Rock Hill; her friend, Robert Price of Charlotte; and her grandchild.

The family will receive friends at noon Saturday at the church.

Beasley's Funeral Home is in charge.
