Franklin Bullock

LANCASTER - Mr. Franklin David Bullock, 62, of 3019 Buck Brasington Road, died Friday, July 17, 1998, at his home.

The graveside funeral will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Unity A.R.P. Church, with the Rev. Guy Smith officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Bullock was a self-employed painting contractor and was reared in the Baptist faith.

Surviving are his wife, Pat Stogner Bullock; his son, Wendell Bullock of Lancaster; his daughter, Julie Powers of Lancaster; and four nephews.

The family will receive friends at the Hartley Funeral Home from 7 to 9 tonight.

Memorials may be made to Home Care Hospice of Lancaster, 800 W. Meeting St., Lancaster, SC 29720.

Mary Sue Crawford

LYMAN - Mrs. Mary Sue Cooley Crawford, 77, of 14 Little St. died Saturday, July 18, 1998, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, with her son, Bishop Johnny Crawford, officiating.

A Beech Springs native, Mrs. Crawford was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She was a housewife.

She was the widow of Jasper Crawford.

Surviving are two daughters, Sybil O'Sullivan of Boiling Springs and Shirley Sims of York; her son, Bishop Johnny Crawford of the home; her sister, Elizabeth McEntire of Spartanburg; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4:30 p.m. today at Seawright Funeral Home in Inman and at the home.

Luther McCleave

ROCK HILL - Mr. Luther R. "Dick" McCleave, 42, of 293 Blanche Circle died Thursday, July 16, 1998 at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 4 p.m. Monday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Bowling Green, with the Rev. Milton Key officiating.

A native of York County, Mr. McCleave was a construction worker. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving are three daughters, Anisha Armstrong of Rock Hill, and Keyatta Adams and Kemyette Adams, both of Clover; his son, Dontay Armstrong of Rock Hill; three sisters, Dorothy Boulware, Brenda Wright and Gracie Curry, all of Gastonia, N.C.; his brother, Linwood McCleave of Clover; two grandchildren and a special friend, Bernitha Armstrong of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends at the church from 3:30 to 4 p.m. Monday and at the homes of Brenda Wright, 610 Belfast Dr., Gastonia, N.C., and Bernitha Armstrong, 289 Blanche Circle, Rock Hill.

Costner Funeral Home of Gastonia, N.C., is in charge.

Rosa Messer

GASTONIA, N.C. - Mrs. Rosa McCreight Summey Messer, 81, of 3704 Stoneman Drive, died Saturday, July 18, 1998, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday at Ward Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Danny Gardner officiating. Burial will be at Gaston Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Messer was a homemaker and a member of Living Hope Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Willis Summey and Charles Summey, both of Gastonia; two daughters, Betty Hawkins of Hickory Grove and Patricia Clinton of Dallas, N.C.; three stepsons, J.B. Messer, Lowell Messer and Boone Messer, all of Gastonia; a brother, Mac McCreight of Lincolnton, N.C.; and a sister, Leavie Crawford of Marietta, Ga.; 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and her great-great-grandchild.

Friends will be received at Ward Funeral Home from 7 to 9 tonight and other times at the home of Willis Summey, 4018 Windwood Drive, Gastonia.

Memorials may be made to the Living Hope Baptist Church, 609 Osceola St., Gastonia, NC 28054.

Virginia Campbell

CHESTER - Mrs. Virginia Gaston Campbell, 89, of 823 Summersby St. died Sunday, July 19, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at First Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. Gregg Keller officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

Mrs. Campbell was a Chester County native and attended Chester County schools. She was a homemaker and was a member of First Church of the Nazarene.

Surviving are two sons, J.W. Campbell and William E. Campbell both of Chester; three daughters, Edith Caldwell of Charlotte, and Frances Ferrell and Minnie Jane Campbell, both of Chester; 11 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Barron Funeral Home, 133 Wylie Street.

Memorials may be made to First Church of the Nazarene, 182 Pinckney St., Chester, SC 29706.

Nathaniel Sterling

ROCK HILL - Mr. Nathaniel Sterling, 80, of 1844 Oakdale Road died Sunday, July 19, 1998, at Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, with the Rev. Clyde Raymond officiating and the Revs. E.E. Vance, Robert Brown, and Betty Hicks assisting. Burial with Masonic Rites will be at the church cemetery.

Born in Chester County, Mr. Sterling attended Chester public schools and was a retired farmer. He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, where he was a lifelong deacon. He was a member of Archive Masonic Lodge No. 149.

Surviving are his wife, Pearl Robinson Sterling; three sons, Nathaniel Sterling Jr. of Charlotte, Roosevelt Sterling of Annapolis, Md., and John D. Sterling of Washington, D.C.; his brother, James Barber of Rock Hill; two sisters, Mary Moffatt of Baltimore and Annie Ruth Walker of Edgemoor; and six grandchildren.

The body may be viewed and the family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Macon Funeral Home is in charge.

Eddie Atkins

PENDLETON - Mr. Eddie Ray Atkins, 65, of 510 Waverly Circle died Sunday, July 19, 1998, at Anderson Area Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pendleton Presbyterian Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Buren Blankenship officiating.

A native of Pendleton, Mr. Atkins was retired from Duke Power Co. He was a member and former elder of Pendleton Presbyterian Church. He was a member and past Master of Pendleton Masonic Lodge 34, Clemson York Rites, Scottish Rites and a Hejaz Shriner.

Surviving are his wife, Eula Owens Atkins; his son, William "Butch" Atkins of Pendleton; his brother, Billy Atkins of Pendleton; four sisters, Becky Philyaw of Fallbrook, Calif., Peggy Fitzgerald of Fort Mill and Betty Bennett and Norma Jean Moore, both of Anderson; two grandchildren; and his great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at McDougald Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
