J. Thomas Neely

ROCK HILL - Mr. John Thomas "Tom" Neely, 75, of 3088 Bridgewater Road died Tuesday, July 21, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The graveside service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Church Cemetery, with the Revs. Donald Scoggins and A.W. Dick officiating.

Mr. Neely was a farmer and was retired from J.P. Stevens Rock Hill Industrial Plant. He was a member of Antioch United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his brother, Lyle Neely of Rock Hill; and his sister, Rita Neely Russell of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Greene Funeral and at other times at the home of his nephew Donny Neely, 347 Park Ave., Rock Hill.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, 1817 Gadsen St., Columbia, SC 29201.

Marvin Robinson

ROCK HILL - Mr. Marvin B. "Robbie" Robinson, 67, of 111 Wisteria Lane died Monday, July 20, 1998, at Carolinas Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Greene Funeral Home, with the Rev. Larry Williams. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

Mr. Robinson was a retired salesman for Murray and Jack's Cookie Co. After retirement, he worked with Patterson's Wrecker Service in Fort Mill and with Wieser Security at Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Co. He was an Army veteran and served in the Korean conflict.

Surviving are his wife, Jacqueline Crowder Robinson; his son, Lewis J. Patterson of Fort Mill; two daughters, Dale George and Darlene Leopard Guerrero, both of Rock Hill; his mother, Marie Robinson of Lancaster, Wis.; five sisters, Virginia Yanna, Ruby Mosemon and Mary Tremelling, all of Wisconsin, Betty Raush of Texas, and Charlotte Gilbertson of Illinois; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at home and the home of his daughter, Dale George, 1890 Plyle Road, Rock Hill.

Memorials may be made to Faith Pentecostal Holiness Church, 3483 Homestead Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732.

Melody Robinson

ROCK HILL - Ms. Melody Jean Robinson, 42, of 252 Blanche Circle died Tuesday, July 21, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Nazareth Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charles Kiser officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Ms. Robinson was a native of York County. She was a former employee of Hoechst Celanese and a member of Nazareth Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Rock Hill High School and attended York Technical College.

Surviving are two daughters, Laquanza D. Robinson and Ashley Robinson, both of Rock Hill; her son, Adrian Robinson of Rock Hill; two brothers, Robert C. Hall of Baltimore and John S. Robinson of Rock Hill; her sister, Margaret F. Robinson of Rock Hill; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home.

The body may be viewed from 5 to 6 p.m. Friday at Robinson Funeral Home.

The body will be placed in the church at noon Saturday.

Pearl Thompson

CARLISLE - Mrs. Pearl Bowser Thompson, 64, of 3197 Leeds Road died Tuesday, July 21, 1998, at Wallace Thompson Hospital in Union.

The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Red Hill Baptist Church in Leeds, with the Rev. Roosevelt Adams officiating and the Revs. Oliver Royal and McKinley Woods and Pastor Cliff Dye assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Thompson was a Chester native. She was a member of Red Hill Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Hymn Choir, the Sick Committee, the Order of Eastern Star Silver Hill Chapter No 244, the AP&B Society and CB&A Society. She was a retired textile worker. She was the widow of H.C. Thompson.

Surviving are two sons, Radzil Thompson of Carlisle and Steve Thompson of Whitmire; her grandson who she raised, Juan Thompson of Carlisle; three daughters, Vanessa Jeter and Sharon Harp, both of Whitmire, and Rhonda Chisholm of Carlisle; three sisters, Sadie Blowe of New Jersey and Mary Crank and Allean Garner, both of Carlisle; three brothers, Ellerbee Bowser and John Bowser, both of Chester, and Odell Bowser of Carlisle; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of Clayton and Rhonda Chisholm, 3511 Minnow Bridge Road, Carlisle.

Eastern Star Rites will be 7 tonight at King's Funeral Home.

Jerry Boatwright (1 of 2)

ROCK HILL - Mr. Jerry Samuel Boatwright, 62, of 2604 Blue Road died Wednesday, July 22, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Greene Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ron Roddy officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

Mr. Boatwright was a retired self-employed auto mechanic. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are his wife, Naomi Hughes Boatwright; four sons, Jesse Boatwright, Dean Boatwright, Allen Boatwright and Mac Boatwright, all of Rock Hill; his daughter, Jane Smith of Lancaster; three brothers, Fred Boatwright, Billy Boatwright and Ricky Boatwright, all of Rock Hill; his sister, Ommie Deese of Statesville, N.C.; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Fletcher Courtney

LANCASTER - Mr. Fletcher Curlee Courtney, 87, of 4461 Rowell Road died Wednesday, July 22, 1998, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Thomas B. Wilkes officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites by the Wannamaker Masonic Lodge No. 329 will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Courtney was a retired clerk at Lancaster Feed and Farm Supply Co. and operated the Buford Cannery in the 1940s. He was a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher for many years and a member of the Methodist Men's Club. He was a 50-year life member and Past Master of the Wannamaker Masonic Lodge, a member of Hejaz Shrine Temple and a charter member of the Tradesville Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Surviving are his son, Sam L. Courtney of Lancaster; his daughter, Clara Sexton of Charlotte; his brother, Simeon R. Courtney of Lancaster; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his son, Sam Courtney, 5075 Rowell Road, Lancaster.

Memorials may be made to Tabernacle United Methodist Church, 5908 Tabernacle Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.
