Blanche Walsh

WINNSBORO - Mrs. Blanche Ramsey Walsh, 86, of Winnsboro died Tuesday, July 21, 1998, at National Health Care of Laurens.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Gordon Memorial United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Robert Hopper officiating. Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Walsh was the former owner of The Gift Box. A native of Hickory Grove, she was a member of Gordon Memorial United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Clifton Woodrow Walsh.

Surviving are two sons, Harold C. Walsh Sr. of Blythewood and Robert K. Walsh Sr. of Florence; her daughter, Joyce W. Rykard of Laurens; her brother, Thomas M. Ramsey Jr. of Gaffney; two sisters, Lois R. Melton of Winnsboro and Thelma R. Kelly of York; 12 grandchildren, including Allen Walsh, who lived with her; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Pope Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Gordon United Methodist Church Family Life Center, P.O. Box 115, Winnsboro, SC 29180.

Sarah Canty

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Sarah Canty of 801 Carolina Ave. died Wednesday, July 22, 1998, at Beverly Health Care Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Robinson Funeral Home.

Ann Clark

YORK - Mrs. Ann Starnes Clark, 75, of 4 Pacific Ave. died Thursday, July 23, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Rawlinson Road Baptist Church in Rock Hill, with William Crain officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens in York.

Mrs. Clark was a homemaker. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in McConnells.

Surviving are her husband, John Lester Clark; three daughters, Linda Gayle Ivey of Charlotte and Judy Dianne Clark and Cindy Johnell William, both of York; two brothers, Wildred Starnes of Monroe, N.C., and Theron Starnes of Natchitoches, La.; and two sisters, Mary Melton and Carol Richardson, both of Monroe, N.C.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at York Funeral Home.

Price Gehrke

LAKE WYLIE - Mr. Price Gehrke, 77, of 55 Heritage Drive died Wednesday, July 22, 1998.

The funeral will be private.

A native of Rochester, N.Y., Mr. Gehrke was a graduate of The Mauluis School and attended Syracuse University where he was an officer in Pershing Rifles and a member of Psi Upsilon Fraternity. He was a graduate of the Wharton School.

He served in the First Army in Europe in World War II from October 1942 until his discharge in April 1946 as a captain. He receive five battle stars.

Prior to his retirement in 1979, he was president simultaneously of two corporations in Rochester. He was a Mason, a Shriner and a member of the American Legion, the Rotary Club and the University Club of Rochester.

During his retirement in River Hills, Mr. Gehrke was a member of the Lions Club, a volunteer ambulance driver and a tennis player.

Surviving are his wife, Norma Gehrke; his daughter, Lisa Martin of Florida; and two grandchildren.

M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home is in charge.

Ethel Gordon

FORT MILL - Mrs. Ethel Manus Gordon, 55, of Fort Mill died Thursday, July 23, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Gordon Funeral Home in Monroe, N.C.

Mrs. Gordon was a native of Union County, N.C.

Surviving are her husband, Donald L. Gordon; two sons, Dewey Gordon and Jeff Gordon, both of Fort Mill; two daughters, Melissa Phillips of Fort Mill and Kelly Ellis of Clover; her brother, Jerry Eugene Manus of Marshville, N.C.; three sisters, Shirley Hathcock of Monroe, Linda Paxton of Wesley Chapel, N.C., and Wanda Sue Morgan of Stanfield; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Gordon Funeral Service, 714 E. Franklin St., Monroe.

Bobby Gregory

CAMDEN - Mr. Bobby Eugene Gregory, 56, of 1132 Gaines Church Road died Wednesday, July 22, 1998, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Cook Cemetery in Camden, with the Rev. Donald Dixon officiating.

Mr. Gregory was the owner and operator of Gregory Logging Co. He was a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Gregory; his son, Bobby E. Gregory Jr. of Lugoff; two daughters, Chrissy Ann Gregory of Camden and Gloria Sutherland of Cassatt; his mother, Christine W. Gregory of Camden; four brothers, James C. Gregory, Marion F. Gregory, Hurley W. Gregory and Carson Leon Gregory, all of Camden; and two sisters, Brenda G. Reeves of Stanley, N.C., and Linda Griffin of Belmont, N.C.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Westpark Plaza, Columbia, SC 29210.

Cauthen Funeral Home, Kershaw, is in charge.

Ely Hoover

SWANSEA - Mr. Ely Fulton Hoover, 81, of Swansea died Wednesday, July 22, 1998.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Swansea United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Melrose Cemetery.

Mr. Hoover was retired from Lexington County School District 4, where he taught vocational agriculture education for 35 years. He taught in Monticello, McBee and Swansea.

He was advisor to the FFA and to the Young Farmers and help organize the Swansea Farmers Cooperative. He was vice president of the South Carolina Vocational Association and served as the superintendent of the livestock judging at the South Carolina State Fair for more than 20 years. The honorary State Farmer Award and the National Bronze Award were among numerous awards he received.

He served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of Swansea United Methodist Church where he taught the youth Sunday school class for more than 40 years. He was chairman of the trustees and was a member of the Administrative Board and Council on Ministries and assistant church school superintendent. He was a delegate of the South Carolina Annual Methodist Conference.

Surviving are his wife, Melva C. Hoover; three daughters, Sondra H. Halweg of Austin, Texas, Barbara H. Lupo of West Columbia and Sally H. Nunn of Rock Hill; his brother, Griffith Hoover of Imperial, Mo.; two sisters, Mildred Strayer of York, Pa., and Lois Sherlock of Columbia; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia.

Memorials may be made to the Swansea United Methodist Church or the Swansea Lions Club.

Erik Krenn

ROCK HILL - Mr. Erik Peter Krenn, 16, of 1633 Madison St. died Thursday, July 23, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Bogansville United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. John Giuliani officiating.

Mr. Krenn was a student at Rock Hill High School and was of the Catholic faith. He was the son of the late Frieda Johns Krenn.

Surviving are his father, Peter Krenn of Rock Hill; his paternal grandmother, Paula Farmer of Martinez, Ga.; and his maternal grandmother, Eloise Johns of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 339 East Main St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Roberta London

ROCK HILL - Miss Roberta Alexander London of Rock Hill died Wednesday, July 22, 1998.

A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour.

Miss London was a native of Rock Hill. She graduated in 1934 from Winthrop College with a bachelor's degree in home economics. She served an internship at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, Mass., and at Vanderbilt University. She received her master's degree in 1936 from Columbia University in New York.

She worked in numerous positions in the field of dietetics from 1936 until her retirement in 1977. She was a dietitian at Mercer Hospital in Trenton, N.J., at York General Hospital and Springs Cotton Mills. She also was an instructor and assistant professor at Winthrop College from 1948 to 1977.

She served as internship director for Winthrop College and the former Charlotte Memorial Hospital. She was the first director of Winthrop's undergraduate program in dietetics and retired as assistant professor emeritus from Winthrop College.

She was a member of the American Dietetic Association for 50 years and was president in 1946-47 and in 1965-67.

Miss London received numerous awards during her years of service. In 1971, she received the Silver Plate Award from the South Carolina Dietetic Association; in 1972, the South Carolina Dietetic Meritorious Service Award; in 1976, the South Carolina Outstanding Dietitian; and in 1986, the Governor's Award. She is also the first honorary member of the Catawba Dietetic Association.

Surviving is her sister, Mrs. E.H. Jones of Rock Hill.

Memorials may be sent to the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour building fund, 144 Caldwell St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

The family will receive friends at the Jones' home, 626 Guilford Road, Rock Hill.
