Lula Ramsey

SMYRNA - Mrs. Lula Mae Brown Ramsey, 85, of 4975 Black Highway died Tuesday, July 21, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at York Funeral Home, with the Rev. Billy Ramsey officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in York.

Mrs. Ramsey was a retired spinner. She was active in local, state and national politics and worked for many candidates. She was a native of Mecklenburg County, N.C., and was the widow of Amos J. Ramsey.

Surviving are her son, Jack Ramsey of Halfway, Md.; her daughter, Scarlet R. Potter of Naples, Fla.; her brother, Winford Brown of Ohio; her sister, Ann Furr of Concord, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Junius Shuman

YORK - Mr. Junius Lee Shuman, 69, of 921 W. Liberty St. died Thursday, July 23, 1998, at Dorn V.A. Medical Center in Columbia.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Grandview Memorial Park, with the Rev. Guy Shealy officiating.

A native of Monroe, N.C., Mr. Shuman was a retired furniture refinisher. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his companion, Frances Laney; two sons, Kenneth Lee Bell and Ray Allen; his sister, Marty Jackson of Rock Hill; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the graveside.

Greene Funeral Home is in charge.

Ada Wilson

REMBERT - Mrs. Ada Wilson of Rembert died Wednesday, July 22, 1998, at a local nursing center.

A graveside service will be 4 p.m. today at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Freddie Wilson officiating.

Mrs. Wilson was the widow of Coleman Wilson. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Willie Grooms of Rembert and Mendel Wilson of Edgemoor; her daughter, Ruby Jean Barkley of Illinois; her sister, Pearl Beard of Rembert; and six grandchildren.

Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home is in charge.

Lewis Boyd

CHESTER - Mr. Lewis "Dad" Boyd, 80, of 212 Ligon St. died Saturday, July 25, 1998, at Meadow Haven Rehabilitation and Specialty Care Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at King's Funeral Home, with the Rev. J.E. Darby officiating and the Rev. Keith Taylor assisting. Burial will be at Piney Grove Baptist Church cemetery.

Mr. Boyd was of the Baptist faith. He was educated in Chester County schools and attended Piney Grove Baptist Church. He was a retired logger.

Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Holley Boyd; five sons, Berry Holley of Newark, N.J., and Johnny Boyd of Baltimore, Bobby Boyd, George Boyd and Thomas "Tony" Boyd, all of Chester; two daughters, Mary Chisholm and Robin Boyd, both of Chester; his sister, Essie Stewart of Chester; his granddaughter, whom he raised, Manetta Smith of Chester; 27 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Laura Harrington

BALTIMORE - Mrs. Laura Means Harrington, 70, of Baltimore died Tuesday, July 21, 1998, at University Hospital.

The funeral will be Monday at Simmons Memorial Baptist Church in Baltimore, with the Rev. Douglas Miles officiating. Burial will be at Maryland National Cemetery.

Formerly of Chester, Mrs. Harrington was a retired beautician and a member of Simmons Memorial Baptist Church. She was the widow of Mack Harrington.

Surviving are her sister, Mary E. Gladden of Richburg; and her brother, Flemon Means of Rock Hill.

Russ Funeral Home in Baltimore is in charge. King's Funeral Home in Chester is in charge of local arrangements.

Leila Humphrey

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Mrs. Leila Deas Humphrey, 93, of 310 West Meadowview Road died Friday, July 24, 1998, at her home.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Saddletree Baptist Church in Lumberton, N.C. Burial will be at the Humphrey family plot.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Humphrey graduated from the Rock Hill School system and was retired from the North Carolina Department of Insurance in Raleigh, N.C. She was a member of Rock Hill's First Baptist Church.

Surviving are her son, Hilbert B. Humphrey Jr.; three brothers, James Deas, Donald Deas of Rock Hill and Cecil Deas of High Springs, Fla.; her sister, Gladys Deas Burroughs of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:30 a.m. at Biggs Funeral Home in Lumberton, N.C., prior to the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church "Forward by Faith" Building Fund, 215 East Main St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Geneva Keller

CHESTER - Mrs. Geneva Dickey Keller, 76, of 109 Abell St., Chester, died Friday, July 24, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Barron Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Bill Heustess officiating. Burial will be at Chester Memorial Gardens.

A native of Chester, Mrs. Keller was employed with Bonds Clothing in New York for 20 years. She was also a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and the VFW Chester Chapter & Ladies Auxiliary. She was the widow of James Theodore Keller.

Surviving are her son, Joe Dickey Keller of Rochester, N.Y.; two sisters, Cynthia Thompson and Evelyn Beckham, both of Chester; two brothers, Jerry Dickey of Chester and Sam Dickey of Charlotte; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 477, Chester, SC 29706.

Samuel Love

CHESTER - Mr. Samuel Marion Love, 64, of 534 Sixth St. died Thursday, July 23, 1998, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church, with the Revs. Clyde Mitchum and Chris Snelgrove officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Love was retired from Springs Industries. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church. He attended Chester County schools.

Surviving are his wife, Mary T. Love; two daughters, Ann Burkett of York and Sandra Austin of Chester; three brothers, Crosby Love of Hacienda Heights, Calif., Ralph Love of Lancaster and Ernest Love of Roebuck; three sisters, Charlotte L. Hazel of Greenwood, Esther L. Cameron Chester, and Betty Pope of Gaffney; and four grandchildren; and his great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to American Heart Association, P.O. Box 6604, Columbia, SC 29260.

William McManus

TAXAHAW - Mr. William Roy McManus, 75, of 6705 Taxahaw Road in the Taxahaw community died Saturday, July 25, 1998, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Oak Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Thurman Johnson and Dr. Donald McManus officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Born in Lancaster County, Mr. McManus was a self-employed brick masonry contractor, a member of Oak Hill Baptist church and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Beulah Baker McManus of Taxahaw; two brothers, Hawley McManus of Lancaster and Ronald McManus of Paris, Calif.; five sisters, Lena Westfall of Milwaukee, Wis., Jewel Mullins and Billie Mullins, both of Kentucky, Catherine Rogers of Lancaster and Patricia Stacks of Kershaw; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will be at the home in the Taxahaw community.

Hartley Funeral Home is in charge.
