Arthur Moore Jr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Arthur Howard Moore Jr., 80, of 967 Beverly Drive, died Friday, July 24, 1998, at the Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. William Pender officiating. Internment is private.

Mr. Moore was a lifetime member of Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, where he was a choir member. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He retired from Rock Hill Printing and Finishing Company as a supervisor.

Mr. Moore was past local and state president of the Elks Club.

Surviving are his wife, Sara Dellinger Moore of the home; his son, Arthur "Buck" H. Moore III of Fort Wayne, Ind.; his daughter, Margaret Walker of Rock Hill; his stepdaughter, Barbara Blackmon of Charlotte; and eight grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Monday after the funeral service and at other times at 967 Beverly Drive, Rock Hill.

Memorials may be made to Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, 421 Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Greene Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Annie Johnston

UNION CITY, N.J. - Annie Rose Johnston, the infant daughter of Eric Lee and Robin C. Ashley Johnston of 1708 Central Ave. Apt. 2 in Union City, N.J., died Thursday, July 23, 1998, at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City.

A graveside funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Lakeview Memory Gardens in York, with the Rev. Jim Correll Jr. officiating, assisted by Rev. Alan Peeler. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

Surviving in addition to her parents are her paternal grandmother, Charline Johnston of Hampstead, Md.; and her maternal great-grandparents, R.C. and Gladys Bratton of York.

York Funeral Home is in charge.

Betty Willingham

LANCASTER - Mrs. Betty Hayes Willingham, 68, of 517 Chester St. died Sunday, July 26, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Heights Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ron Gregory officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mrs. Willingham was a Lancaster native. She was a homemaker and member of Glenwood Heights Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, David A. Willingham of the home; two sons, David R. Parker of Wilmington, N.C., and James O. Willingham of Fort Worth, Texas; her daughter, Gloria Parker Hinnant of Wilmington; two brothers, Bruce Hayes of Lancaster and Jerry Hayes of Columbia; two sisters, Pat Belk of Lancaster and Billie Carol Stevens of Smithfield, N.C.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials may be made to Home Care Hospice of Lancaster, 800 W. Meeting St., Lancaster, SC or to Glenwood Heights Baptist Church, 600 Nichols Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Thelma Allen

CHESTER - Mrs. Thelma Roberson Allen, 77, of Magnolia Manor in Rock Hill, formerly of Chester, died Sunday, July, 26, 1998, in Cleveland County, N.C.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wright's Home for Funerals, with the Rev. Dr. Anthony W. Dick officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

Allen was retired from Springs Industries. She was the widow of Laney Earl Allen Sr.

Surviving are her son, Laney E. Allen Jr., of Rock Hill; her brother, Bobby Roberson of Cherryville, N.C.; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Wright's Home for Funerals.

Charles Ammons Sr.

HEATH SPRINGS - Mr. Charles Larry Ammons Sr., 61, of 3419 Dollar Lane died Sunday, July 26, 1998, at his home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Beacon Baptist Church, with the Revs. Terry Norris and Ray Robinson officiating. Burial will be at Faith Baptist Cemetery.

Mr. Ammons was a truck driver for Harris Teeter grocery stores, an Air Force veteran and a member of Beacon Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia Vinson Ammons; two sons, Charles Larry Ammons Jr. of Lancaster and Andrew Ora Ammons of Heath Springs; his stepson, David Miran Haile of Lancaster; two daughters, Ginger Lynn Holsinger of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Kandi George of West Virginia; his stepdaughter, Fredia Lynn Haile of Charlotte; his brother, Horace Ammons of Texas; two sisters, Ina Grant of Denver and Lettie DeSham of Texas; seven grandchildren; and his great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel, and at other times at the home, 3419 Dollar Lane, Heath Springs.

Marie Barnett

ROCK HILL - The funeral for Mrs. Marie Thompson Barnett, who died Friday, July 24, 1998, at White Oak Manor, will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Flint Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. John Brown officiating.

The Revs. Osbey Roddey, J.H. Bailey and Paul Long will assist. The eulogy will be given by the Rev. W.B. White. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Barnett was a native of York County and attended its public schools. She was a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Usher Board, Choir No. 1, Willing Workers Club and the Missionary Society. She was a volunteer for York County's summer feeding program and was a member of the White Hill Chapter Order of the Eastern Star Lodge No. 3350.

Surviving are five sons, Sam L. Thompson Jr., Willie Lee Thompson, Bobby Eugene Thompson and Vernon Thompson, all of Rock Hill, and Freddie Lavern Thompson of Cary, N.C.; two daughters, Lelia T. Settles Brown of Matthews, N.C., and Ethel Thompson Knox of Rock Hill; her stepdaughter, Geraldine B. Durham of Clover; two sisters, Nancy Hardin of Baltimore and Essie Gaines of Rozelle, N.J.; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 tonight at Robinson Funeral Home and at other times at 1074 Albert St., Rock Hill.

The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Catherine Canty

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Catherine Sanders Canty, 82, of 1824 Betsy Bob Road died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Catawba Ward, with Bishop Pieter Reynders officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Canty was retired from J.P. Stevens Company and was a Catawba master potter. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Catawba Ward.

Mrs. Canty was the widow of Billy Canty.

Surviving are two sons, Troy Canty and Huey Canty, both of Rock Hill; three daughters, Billie Anne McKellar, Sadie Whitlock and Geraldine C. Tinker, all of Rock Hill; two brothers, Fred Sanders of Galup, N.M., and Thomas Sanders of Rock Hill; and three sisters, Roberta Honeycutt, Vivian Lauder and Mahovie Bryson, all of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to the Missionary Fund at the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints Catawba Ward.

Lewis Boyd

CHESTER - Mr. Lewis "Dad" Boyd, 80, of 212 Ligon St. died Saturday, July 25, 1998, at Meadow Haven Rehabilitation and Specialty Care Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at King's Funeral Home, with the Rev. J.E. Darby officiating and the Rev. Keith Taylor assisting. Burial will be at Piney Grove Baptist Church cemetery.

Mr. Boyd was of the Baptist faith. He was educated in Chester County schools and attended Piney Grove Baptist Church. He was a retired logger.

Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Holley Boyd; five sons, Berry Holley of Newark, N.J., and Johnny Boyd of Baltimore, Bobby Boyd, George Boyd and Thomas "Tony" Boyd, all of Chester; two daughters, Mary Chisholm and Robin Boyd, both of Chester; his sister, Essie Stewart of Chester; his granddaughter, whom he raised, Manetta Smith of Chester; 27 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home.
