Maggie Graham

GREAT FALLS - Mrs. Maggie Holmes Graham, 56, of 711 Piney Woods Road in Columbia, died Friday, July 24, 1998, at Lexington Medical Center in Lexington.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Pleasant Grove AME Zion Church in Great Falls.

A native of Great Falls, Mrs. Graham was a member of the Pleasant Grove AME Zion Church.

Surviving are her husband, Alphonso Graham of Columbia; her son, Carlos Graham of Columbia; six brothers, James Holmes, Hornsby Holmes, Dan Holmes and Raymond Holmes, all of Great Falls, John Holmes of Rock Hill and Walker Holmes of Ridgeway; and four sisters, Lottie Cloud and Sallie Caldwell, both of Great Falls, Betty Relford of Chicago and Doris Holmes of Lancaster.

The body will be placed in the church at noon.

Leevy's Funeral Home, Taylor Street Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

Annie Johnston

UNION CITY, N.J. - Annie Rose Johnston, the infant daughter of Eric Lee and Robin C. Ashley Johnston of 1708 Central Ave. Apt. 2 in Union City, N.J., died Thursday, July 23, 1998, at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City.

A graveside funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Lakeview Memory Gardens in York, with the Rev. Jim Correll Jr. officiating, assisted by Rev. Alan Peeler. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

Surviving in addition to her parents are her paternal grandmother, Charline Johnston of Hampstead, Md.; and her maternal great-grandparents, R.C. and Gladys Bratton of York.

York Funeral Home is in charge.

Catherine Tonys

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Catherine Tischler Tonys, 88, of 127 Murrah Drive died Sunday, July 26, 1998, at Magnolia Manor.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. today at Forest Hills Cemetery, with Father John Giuliani officiating.

Born in Yugoslavia, she was a member of Divine Savior Catholic Church. She was the widow of Nick Tonys.

Surviving are two daughters, Catherine Tolnar of Hubbard, Ohio, and Linda Merwin of York; three grandsons; and her great-granddaughter.

Greene Funeral Home is in charge.

Danny Vess

EDGEMOOR - Mr. Danny Lyn Vess, 18, of 1146 Berry Hill Road in Edgemoor died Sunday, July 26, 1998.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lando Church of God, with the Rev. Chuck Simmons officiating. Burial will be at Lando Cemetery.

Mr. Vess was a Chester County native. He was formerly employed with Defenders at Springs Industries. He attended the Lando Church of God. He attended Socastee High School in Myrtle Beach.

Surviving are his father and stepmother, Charles Scott and Susan Vess of Myrtle Beach; his mother and stepfather, Margaret and Randall Shehane of Lancaster; his brother, Charles Scott Vess Jr. of Edgemoor; his sister, Christie Vess of Myrtle Beach; his stepbrother, Brandon Scott Shehane of Fort Lawn; his paternal grandfather and step-grandmother, Albert and Martha Vess of Chester; his paternal grandmother, Shirley Vess of Chester; and his maternal grandmother, Louise Harris of Edgemoor.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Barron Funeral Home in Chester.

George Walters

ROCK HILL - Mr. George Donald Walters, 74, of 1800 India Hook Road died Sunday, July 26, 1998, at Spring Arbor Residential Care.

Burial will be at Lakeland Memorial Gardens, Lakeland, Fla. A date has not been set.

A native of Douglas, Ill., Mr. Walters was a graduate of Maquon Community High School and an Air Force veteran. He was a flight engineer and top turret gunner in a B-17 390th Bombardment Group. He flew 30 missions, 15 as a Pathfinder between June 6, 1944, and Nov. 21, 1944. He received four air medals and the distinguished flying cross.

He worked for Maquon Farmers Elevator Co. and was a service manager for Florida Equipment Co. and the Ross Heavy Equipment Company of Cleveland, Ga. He retired in 1986.

Surviving are three sisters, Emma Herstrum of Burlington, Ill., Dorotha Clark of Flora, Ill., and Hazel Censullo of McConnells.

Memorials may be made to Spring Arbor Residential Care, 1800 India Hook Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732 or to Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Roger Alexander

SMYRNA - Mr. Roger Wayne "Shine" Alexander, 48, of 4900 Clark's Creek Circle died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Enon Baptist Church, with the Revs. Joel Gilchrist and Jason Jackson officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Alexander was retired from Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Co.

Surviving are his daughter, Janet Welchel of Gaffney; seven brothers, Larry Alexander and Mike Alexander, both of Clover, Rick Alexander of York, and Bobby Alexander, Steve Alexander, Danny Alexander and Johnny Alexander, all of Smyrna; two sisters, Janice Alexander of Smyrna and Geraldine A. Jackson of Clover; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his sister, Janice Alexander, 4975 Black Highway, Smyrna.

Memorials may be made to the Roger W. Alexander Memorial Fund, Enon Baptist Church, 151 Enon Church Road, Smyrna, SC 29743.

William Binkley

GLASTONBURY, Conn. - Retired Maj. William W. Binkley, 55, of Glastonbury died Monday, Aug. 3, 1998, at Bridgeport Hospital in Bridgeport, Conn.

A graveside service with full military honors will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Cornwell Presbyterian Church cemetery in Chester County, with the Rev. Oscar Burdette officiating.

Mr. Binkley retired from the Army. He was manager of the Commission of Human Rights and Opportunity for the state of Connecticut.

Surviving are his wife, Sandra Delancey Binkley; his son, William C. Binkley of Atlanta; his daughter, Kimberly L. Culler of Glastonbury, Conn.; and three brothers, Russell Binkley of Washington, James Binkley of Colorado and Robert Binkley of Texas.

Barron Funeral Home in Chester is in charge.

Ernest Dunn

ROCK HILL - Mr. Ernest Perry Dunn, 80, of 341 Ebenezer Ave. died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 1998, at home.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Laurelwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Doyle Smith and Layman Charlie Faile officiating.

Mr. Dunn was a retiree of Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Co. He was a member of West End Baptist Church, the Disabled Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2889 and the Frank Roach American Legion Post 34. He was an Army veteran of World War II and the S.C. National Guard. He retired from the military with 20 years of service. He was the widower of Margie Huggins Dunn.

Surviving are his daughter, Helen D. Waldron of the home; his brother, Edward Lee Dunn of Rock Hill; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to West End Baptist Church, 1727 McConnells Highway, Rock Hill, SC 29732 or to Cornerstone United Methodist Church, 2697 Heckle Blvd., Rock Hill, SC 29732.

Betty Fletcher

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Betty Hunt Fletcher died Saturday, Aug. 1, 1998, in New Jersey.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Clemons Funeral Home in Rock Hill.

Surviving are two sons, James W. McNeal and Ham McNeal; two daughters, Lorain McNeal and Susan McNeal; six brothers, James Hunt, Louis Hunt, Robert Hunt, Roosevelt Hunt, Joe Louis Hunt and Clyde Hunt; and three sisters, Vinnie Brice, Joan Lowery and Bertha Hunt.
