John Harris

FORT MILL - Mr. John Collins Harris, 26, of Fort Mill died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1998, in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Higher Ground Church, with the Rev. Walter Harris officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Harris attended school in Fort Mill. He attended Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church and worked as a carpenter for Chris Weiss' Environamics.

Surviving are his parents, Steve and Diane Branche of Rock Hill and Wayne Harris of Fort Mill; two sisters, Marty Johnson of Lake Wylie and Lois Cook of Fort Mill; two stepbrothers, Wayne Harris and Shane Harris, both of Fort Mill; two stepsisters, Tiffany Harris of Lake Wylie and Selena Harris of Fort Mill.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the John Harris Funeral Fund, c/o Wolfe Funeral Home, 314 Spratt St., Fort Mill, SC 29715.

Willie McCullough

CHARLOTTE - Mr. Willie B. McCullough, 48, of Charlotte, formerly of Chester, died Sunday, July 19, 1998.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at King's Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bill Stringfellow Jr. officiating.

Mr. McCullough was a former electrician and was an Army veteran.

Surviving are two brothers, Jerry McCullough and Marcus McCullough, both of Washington, D.C.; and two sisters, Trudy M. Wallace and Sherry McCullough, both of Washington, D.C.

The family will receive friends at the home of Shirleen Davis, 1344 Brown-McCullough Road in Chester.

Virginia Morton

MYRTLE BEACH - Mrs. Virginia "Jennie" Sutton Morton, 69, of 1020 Pine Drive died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1998, at Conway Nursing Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Greene Funeral Home in Rock Hill.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Morton was of the Christian faith. She was a retired retail sales clerk.

Surviving are three sons, David Wayne "Sonny" Sawyer and Danny Sawyer, both of Rock Hill, and Blaise Tishey of Loris; her daughter, Gayle Mitchell of Myrtle Beach; two brothers, Don Sutton and Bill "Baldy" Sutton, both of Rock Hill; two sisters, Betty Sutton Chapman of Rock Hill and June S. Myers of Smoaks; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home of her son, Danny Sawyer, 5238 Green Valley Road, Newport, SC 29732.

John Murphy

ROCK HILL - Mr. John Edward Murphy, 79, of Rock Hill died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1998, at Presbyterian Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at McEwen Funeral Service, Charlotte Chapel, with the Rev. Greg Means officiating. Burial will be at Sharon Memorial Park, with the Rev. Ed. Chidester officiating.

Mr. Murphy was a native of West Virginia. He was the widower of Thelma Louise Murphy.

Surviving are two sons, Charles Thompson and Mike Murphy; three daughters, Joyce Otto, Janice Haggerty and Pam Guskie; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Harris Hospice Unit of Presbyterian Hospital, Hawthorne Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28204.

Martha Patterson

MOUNT HOLLY, N.C. - Miss Martha O. Patterson, 76, of 205 Walnut Ave., formerly of Fort Mill, died Thursday, Aug. 6, 1998, at Brian Nursing Home in Gastonia, N.C.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Carothers Funeral Home in Mount Holly, with the Revs. Ralph Riley and Todd Wright officiating. Burial will be at Pineview Cemetery.

Miss Patterson was a member of First Baptist Church in Fort Mill. She was a secretary with Springs Industries. She graduated from Mount Holly High School in 1940, attended Montreat College and graduated from York Technical College. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 4 in Fort Mill.

Surviving are her sister, Sara McIntosh of Mount Holly; and her longtime friend, Kate M. Kiser of Fort Mill.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 121 Monroe White St., Fort Mill, SC 29715.

Lewis Roberts

BOURNEMOUTH, United Kingdom - Mr. Lewis B. "Bud" Roberts, formerly of Fort Mill, died Thursday, July 30, 1998, in Bournemouth.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Sunday at SouthPark Christian Church in Charlotte.

Mr. Roberts was a member of SouthPark Christian Church.

Surviving is his wife, Carol Roberts.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the SouthPark Christian Church, 6650 Park South Drive, Charlotte, NC 28210 or to the American Cancer Society, 339 East Main St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Mary Thomas

ROCK HILL - The funeral for Mrs. Mary Frazier Thomas of White Oak Manor, who died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 1998, will be 1 p.m. Saturday at New Mount Olivet AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Sherman B. McBeth Sr. officiating.

Burial will be at Foundation AME Zion Church cemetery in Lesslie.

A native of York County, Mrs. Thomas was a housekeeper and was a member of New Mount Olivet church, where she received an award for more than 50 years of service in 1994. She sang on the church's senior choir, was a member of its Booster Club and was an usher. She was a Life Matron of the Woman's Home and Overseas Missionary Society, and served 20 years as the Rock Hill district secretary of the Bureau of Supply. In 1990, she was named Outstanding Missionary of the South Carolina Conference. She was a member of Unity Electa Chapter No. 1, Order of the Eastern Star. She attended York County public schools.

Surviving is her brother, James Barber of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 tonight at Robinson Funeral Home, and at other times at 631 Taylor St.

The body will be placed in the church at noon Saturday.

Grover Collins Jr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Grover "G.C." Collins Jr., 71, of 3630 Reid Road, died Thursday, Aug. 6, 1998, at the V.A. Hospital in Columbia.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of Bass Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mike Rouse officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Collins was a member of Mount Holly United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a retired pipe fitter for Garawco Plumbing and Heating.

Surviving are his wife, Betty C. Collins; two sons, Clevie Collins and Wayne Collins, both of Rock Hill; his daughter, Cheryl Ligon of Rock Hill; two sisters, Louise Littlejohn and Elizabeth Strait, both of Rock Hill; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at Bass Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Mount Holly United Methodist Church family life center, 1996 Mount Holly Road, Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Mary Cook

ROOSEVELT, N.Y."- Mrs. Mary Helen Pressley Cook, 60, formerly of Rock Hill, died Tuesday, July, 28, 1998, at Nassau County Medical Center.

The funeral was Tuesday at the chapel of John N. Moore Funeral Home. Burial was at Hempstead, N.Y.

Mrs. Cook was a native of Rock Hill.

Surviving are her mother, Bessie Mae Pressley of Rock Hill; five brothers, James A. Pressley Jr. of Columbus, Ga., Ronnie Lee Pressley and Stevie Pressley both of Roosevelt, N.Y., Kenneth Pressley of Jamaica, N.Y., and Charles Pressley of Central Islip, N.Y.; and four sisters, Shirley Ann Cherry of Rock Hill, Dianne Pressley and Patricia Pressley, both of Roosevelt, N.Y., Cynthia Pressley of Hempstead, N.Y.

Memorials may be made to the Temple of Jesus of Christ Church, 3815 Rogers Circle, Rock Hill, SC 39730.
