Marshall Covert

ROCK HILL - Mr. Marshall Warren Covert, 30, of 5030 Country Oaks Road died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Cauthen Funeral Home, with the Revs. Shelton P. Sanford III and William A. Fox Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

Mr. Covert was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and was a mechanic for Burns Chevrolet.

Surviving are his wife, Annmarie Covert; his mother, Kathleen Covert Martin of Keensburg, N.J.; three brothers, Michael Allender of Tinton Falls, N.J., and Charlie Logan Covert and Brian Covert, both of Long Branch, N.J.; and his sister, Shannon Kramarcik of Sanford, Fla.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1800 India Hook Road, Rock Hill, SC 27932.

Addie Gilmore

PHILADELPHIA, Penn. - Mrs. Addie Gilmore, 84, of Philadelphia, Pa., formerly of Chester, died Friday, Aug. 7, 1998, at Einstein Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by King's Funeral Home.

Virginia Morton

MYRTLE BEACH - Mrs. Virginia "Jennie" Sutton Morton, 69, of 1020 Pine Drive died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1998, at Conway Nursing Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at the chapel of Greene Funeral Home in Rock Hill, with the Rev. Bob Taylor officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Morton was of the Christian faith. She was a retired retail sales clerk.

Surviving are her husband, Donald O. Morton; two sons, David Wayne "Sonny" Sawyer and Danny Sawyer, both of Rock Hill; her adopted son, Blaise Tishey of Loris; her daughter, Gayle Mitchell of Myrtle Beach; two brothers, Don Sutton and Bill "Baldy" Sutton, both of Rock Hill; two sisters, Betty Sutton Chapman of Rock Hill and June S. Myers of Smoaks; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Tony Pate

LANCASTER - Mr. Tony Mitchell Pate, 48, of 1989 Beacon Road died Friday, Aug. 7, 1998, at the Medical University of South Carolina Hospital in Charleston.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Hyde Park Baptist Church, with the Revs. Donald Coppedge and Archie Neal officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mr. Pate was an employee of Grace Contractors. He was a member of Hyde Park Baptist Church and was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Vietnam War.

Surviving are his parents, William "Bill" Pate and Delores Mungo Pate of Lancaster; three brothers, Tom Pate of Myrtle Beach, Terry Pate and Eric Pate, both of Lancaster; and his sister, Tammy Pate of Lancaster.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Hyde Park Baptist Church church organ fund, 1898 Flat Creek Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Betty Jean Roach

ROCK HILL - Ms. Betty Jean Roach, 51, formerly of 509 Oates St., died Thursday, Aug. 6, 1998, at the Rehabilitation Nursing Center in Monroe, N.C.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Robinson Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Willie E. Garrison officiating. He will be assisted by the Revs. John D. Brown III and Charles B. Kiser.

A native of Philadelphia, Ms. Roach moved to Rock Hill many years ago. She was a member of Mt. Prospect Baptist Church and New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church. She attended the public schools of Rock Hill and Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte.

She also was active in the Nevins Center program in Charlotte and participated in the Special Olympics. She received several medals and certificates of merit.

Surviving are her sister, Mary Jo Brown of Charlotte; and her brother, William Roach of Philadelphia.

There will be a viewing at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Robinson Funeral Home.

Virginia Searson

HILTON HEAD - Mrs. Virginia Zeigler Searson, 93, of Hilton Head died Thursday, Aug. 6, 1998, at her home.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Island Funeral Home.

Mrs. Searson was a graduate of Winthrop College, where she earned her bachelor's and master's degrees. She taught in Rock Hill, Columbia and Forest Park, Ill.

She was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church and Daughters of the King. She was a member of Eleanor Laurens Pinckney DAR Chapter in Columbia. She was first runner-up in the Palma Festa in 1922 in Atlantic City, N.J., which was the predecessor to the Miss American Pageant.

Surviving are two daughters, Virginia Searson Simrill of Hilton Head Island and Robin Searson Larsen of New Paltz, N.Y.; her sister, Emily Zeigler Bennett of Columbia; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the SchoolBook Foundation for Laptop Computers, 43 Brown Thrasher Road, Hilton Head Island, SC 29926 or to the Center for Symbolic Studies, 475 River Road, New Paltz, N.Y. 12561.

Margaret Wilks

CHESTER - Mrs. Margaret Wise Wilks, 87, of 1599 Pinckney Road died Friday, Aug. 7, 1998, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bob Craven officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Wilks was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she was a former teacher for the Adult Ladies Class. She was retired from Chester County Hospital. She attended Chester County High School. She was the widow of Fred W. Wilks.

Surviving are three daughters, Anita Cox of Chester, Brenda Alexander of Charlotte and Ann Smith of Lawrenceville, Ga.; her sister, Helen W. Good of Shelby, N.C.; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 610 Calvary Baptist Church, Chester, SC 29706.

Chester Wray Jr.

CLOVER - Mr. Chester Lee Wray Jr., 73, of 204 Flat Rock St. died Friday, Aug. 7, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Larry Medlin officiating. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery.

Mr. Wray was retired from Marion Yarns in Clover. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are three brothers, Charles Wray of Asheville, N.C., Garrison Wray of Clover, and Ernest Wray of Calhoun, Ga.; and three sisters, Janice Shuford of Stanley, N.C., and Frances Bingham and Loretta Sharp, both of Clover.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home.

Rozell Jamison

CLOVER - Mr. Rozell Jamison, 53, of 401 Sumter St. died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. John Baptist Church in Sharon, with the Rev. Tony Dogan officiating, assisted by the Revs. James Burris, John H. Bailey, Milton Key and Blanche Jamerson. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Jamison was a York County native. He was a member of St. John Baptist Church in Sharon, and the Hymn Choir No. 2, until his health failed. He graduated in 1963 from Roosevelt High School in Clover. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and served in the S.C. National Guard for 17 years. He worked for CBP Resources, where he received many awards and recognitions as a professional truck driver.

Surviving are his wife, Belinda White Jamison of Clover; two sons, Michael Rozell Jamison of Richmond, Va., and Antonio Jermaine Jamison of Clover; his daughter, Shaquia Rochelle Jamison of Clover; his father, Rosevelt Jamison of Clover; two brothers, Jesse Jamison and Sammy J. Jamison, both of Gastonia; and two sisters, Anne Ragley of Norristown, Penn., and the Rev. Bessie Jamison Wheeler of Gastonia;

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Wright Funeral Home in York.

The body will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.
