Claude Robinson

EASLEY - Mr. Claude Eugene Robinson, 63, of 1228 Pelzer Highway died Tuesday, July 28, 1998, at Palmetto Baptist Medical Center in Columbia.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at St. Andrew United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Julian Ford, Rowland Bearden and Bennie Durham officiating. Burial will be at Westview Cemetery.

A native of Pickens County, Mr. Robinson was a former employee of Gerrish-Milliken Co. and was retired from Dan River Industries. He attended St. Andrew United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Margaret Tripp Robinson; two sons, Claude Michael Robinson of Columbia and Kent Warren Robinson of Easley; his daughter, Jo Ann Robinson Lovell of Catawba; his mother, Nina Mae Bearden Robinson of Easley; two brothers, Wade H. Robinson of Piedmont and Enoch Hamp Robinson Jr. of Pickens; his sister, Janet Aiken of Easley; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Robinson Funeral Home in Easley and at other times at home.

The body will placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Memorials may be made to St. Andrew United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 27, Easley, SC 29641.

Heyward Sanders

CHESTER - Mr. Heyward Sanders, 86, of 2733 W. Chester School Road died Sunday, July 26, 1998, at Oakmont Nursing Home in Union.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at Bethlehem Baptist Church, with the Rev. James W. Hope officiating and the Rev. Curtis Washington assisting. The Rev. Daniel Chisholm will give the eulogy. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Sanders was a Chester native. He was a member of Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church, and he joined Bethlehem Baptist Church at an early age. He was a member of Acacia Masonic Lodge No. 32 and the A.P.& B. Society No. 17. He attended Chester County public schools and retired from The Charlotte Observer.

Surviving are his wife, Dilcie M. Sanders; his son, James Bernard Sanders of Chester; his daughter, Wentonia Jackson of Detroit; his sister, Rosetta Solomon of Chester; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.

The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Friday.

James Smith

ROCK HILL - Mr. James A. "Al" Smith 1915 Ebenezer Road died Wednesday, July 29, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Greene's Funeral Home.

Rose Thrower

YORK - Miss Rose Eva "Diddy" Thrower, 43, of 114 York Park St. died Monday, July 27, 1998, at the Medical University of South Carolina Hospital in Charleston.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Great Joy Baptist Church in McConnells, with the Rev. Walter B. White officiating and the Rev. Johnny Burris assisting. Burial will be at Crawford Memorial Gardens.

Miss Thrower attended York County public schools. She was a homemaker and former employee of Pharr Yarns in Clover.

Surviving are her son, Terry Thrower of the home; her daughter, Alice Thrower of the home; seven brothers, Tommy L. Thrower, Sammy Thrower Jr., Arthur Thrower and Wilford Thrower, all of York, and Charlie Thrower, Wilmore Thrower and Sylvester Thrower, all of Rock Hill; her stepbrother, Donnie Hall of Rock Hill; two sisters, Lucinda Thrower of York and LaMentha Thrower of Rock Hill; and her special friend, Andrew Mitchell of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Wright Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Friday.

Ruth Benton

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Ruth Ann Minter Thrower Benton, 57, of 1815 Griers Grove Road No. A died Tuesday, July 28, 1998, at Presbyterian Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Long & Son Mortuary. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Charlotte.

Mrs. Benton was a native of Chester County and attended schools in York and Chester counties.

Surviving are two sons, Johnny Ray Benton and Floyd Benton, both of Charlotte; three daughters, Lavone Thrower, Angela Benton and Johnnie Mae Benton, all of Charlotte; three stepsons, Johnny L. Benton Jr., Howard Benton and John Lockhard, all of Charlotte; her stepdaughter, Brenda Benton of Charlotte; six brothers, Tommy Thrower Jr., Arthur Thrower, Sammy Thrower and Wilford Thrower, all of York, and Charlie Thrower and Wilmore Thrower, both of Rock Hill; and two sisters, Lucinda Thrower of York and LaMentha Thrower of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. Saturday at Long & Son Mortuary.

William Cameron

ROCK HILL - Mr. William B. Cameron, 87, of 2385 Gordon Road died Wednesday, July 29, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Church in York, with the Rev. Thomas McPhail officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Cameron was a retired printer at Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Co. He was the widower of Wilma Mae Rister Cameron. He was a member of Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his son, Eddie Cameron of Guam; five daughters, Sandra Thrift, Billie Ann Cavney, Linda Matthews and Kay Thomas, all of Rock Hill, and Ann Good of York; two brothers, Walter Cameron and Johnny Cameron, both of Rock Hill; his sister, Lula Knox of Rock Hill; 17 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at York Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Church cemetery association, 1184 N. Shiloh Road, York, SC 29745.

Marjorie Davis

CAMDEN - Mrs. Marjorie Croft Davis, 83, of 166 DeSaussure St. died Tuesday, July 28, 1998, at Bethea Baptist Home in Darlington.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Thorn Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Page Davis Creach. Burial will be at Sand Hill Baptist Church cemetery.

Mrs. Davis was a member of Hermitage Baptist Church, where she taught children's Sunday school, was the leader of the Sunbeam Band, taught junior Sunday school and Training Union and was a member of the Woman's Missionary Union. She was the widow of the Rev. Boyce Allen Davis.

Surviving are three sons, James LeJeune Davis of Bowie, Texas, John H. Davis of Florence and Bruce E. Davis of Camden; her daughter, Barbara D. Robinson of Heath Springs; her half sister, Elizabeth Garvin of Macon, Ga.; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
