Eva Holt

FORT MILL - Mrs. Eva Deese Holt, 82, of 318 Morgan St. died Wednesday, July 29, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Wolfe Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jerry Sosebee officiating. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery.

Mrs. Holt was a former employee of Springs Industries. She was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Monroe, N.C.

Surviving are two daughters, Martha Helms of Concord, N.C., and Jessie Faile of Fort Mill; two brothers, Junior Deese and Adam Deese, both of Monroe; her sister, Jamie Rorie of Rockingham, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 6604, Columbia, SC 29260.

James Lindsay Jr.

CHESTER - Mr. James William Lindsay Jr., 80, of 1924 Ford Road died Wednesday, July 29, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Barron Funeral Home, with the Revs. Clyde Mitchum and Buddy Bach officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

Mr. Lindsay was a retired plumber. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church. He attended Chester County schools and was an Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are three brothers, Robert H. Lindsay Sr. and Thomas B. Lindsay Sr., both of Chester, and Ralph E. Lindsay of Cape Canaveral, Fla.; and three sisters, Pauline L. Ford and Margaret L. Orr, both of Chester, and Dorothy L. Thomas of Jackson, N.J.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church, 1660 Pleasant Grove Road, Chester, SC 29706.

John Knight

UNION - Mr. John Davidson Knight, 70, of 106 Amber Drive died Wednesday, July 29, 1998, at Spartanburg Regional Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Kershaw Chapel, with the Revs. Kenneth Truesdale and Grady O'Neal officiating. Burial will be at the Bethany Baptist Church cemetery in Westville.

Mr. Knight was a retired supervisor with United Merchants and was a Marine Corps veteran. He was a native of Great Falls.

Surviving are three daughters, Carol Knight Bugge of Chapin, Debra Knight of Cayce and Jerri Counts of North Augusta; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home.

Ronald Malm

LANCASTER - Mr. Ronald Edwin Malm, 57, of 3927 Flat Creek Road died Wednesday, July 29, 1998.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Hartley Funeral Home.

Kay McCowan

GREAT FALLS - Mrs. Kay Jones McCowan, 47, of 5748 Golf Course Road died Wednesday, July 29, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Great Falls Presbyterian Church, with the Revs. Samuel Thomas and Doug Irvin officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.

Mrs. McCowan was manager of the Great Falls Branch of Spratt Savings and Loan Association. She was a member of Great Falls Presbyterian Church, where she was deacon and church treasurer. She was a graduate of Great Falls High School and attended the University of South Carolina at Lancaster. She was a volunteer and mentor with the Partner's in Education program in the Great Falls schools. She also was associated with the Great Falls Hometown Association.

Surviving are her husband, Jerry E. McCowan; her son, Malcolm McCowan of Fort Lawn; her mother, Aline O. Jones of White Oak Manor in Lancaster; two sisters, Libby McElduff of Spartanburg and Rhetta Jones of Greenville.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home.

Memorials will be made to Great Falls Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 466, Great Falls, SC 29055.

Judy Padgett

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Judy Faile Padgett, 49, of 3207B Homestead Road died Thursday, July 30, 1998, at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Greene Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jimmy Holley officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

Mrs. Padgett was a waitress at the Mayflower Seafood Restaurant. She was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are her husband, David B. Padgett Sr.; her son, David B. Padgett Jr. of Myrtle Beach; two daughters, Kim P. Merck of Rock Hill and Crystal P. Cameron of McConnells; her brother, Johnny Faile of Rock Hill; two sisters, Darlene F. Collins of Lesslie and Glenda F. Lear of Rock Hill; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29732.

Grady Patton

YORK - The Rev. Grady L. Patton, 49, of 321 Sandifer Road died Wednesday, July 29, 1998, at Palmetto Baptist Medical Center in Columbia.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Langrum Branch Baptist Church in York, with the Rev. Osbey Roddey officiating, and the Revs. W. G. Boulware, Albert Young, Dariel Jackson, Robert Entzminger, A.L. Hensley, W.T. Massey and W.E. Page assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

The Rev. Patton joined Langrum Branch Baptist Church at an early age. While there, he was a deacon, Sunday school teacher and Hymn Choir leader. He was called into the ministry and became pastor of Armenia Baptist Church. He most recently was the pastor of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Blackstock.

He was a self-employed brick mason, a 1969 graduate of Jefferson High School in York and a graduate of Jacksonville Theological Seminary in Jacksonville, Fla.

Surviving are his wife, Yvonne Bowen Patton; three sons, Jody T. Patton of Gastonia, N.C., Telly S. Patton of Clover and Jabari A. Patton of the home; his daughter, Angel M. McCaskill of Gastonia, N.C.; three brothers, Nathaniel Patton of Rock Hill, Charles Patton of York and Sgt. Emmanuel Patton of Richmond, Va.; six sisters, Mary Patton, Delores Ervin, Margaret Wright and Shirley Shannon, all of York, Dorothy Smith of Freeport, N.Y., and Christine Crosby of Rock Hill; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Blackstock.

The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Sunday.

King's Funeral Home is in charge.
