Charles Bair

HEATH SPRINGS - Mr. Charles Henry Bair, 52, of 508 North Main St. died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, with Revs. Randy Koon and Glenn Carter officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Bair taught for 25 years in the public schools and coached for 20 years. He was a member of the S.C. Coaches Association and worked at Demark-Olar and Estill high schools and Heath Springs and Andrew Jackson middle and high schools. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Jean Barrett Bair; two daughters, Elizabeth Bair of Heath Springs and Danica Gross of Hartsville; his mother, Leila Mae Branham Bair of Columbia; two brothers, L.C. Bair of Branchville and Leonard Bair of Bowman; and his grandson.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at home.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation, 2721 Middleburg Drive, Suite 312, Columbia, SC 29204 or to the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Building, Suite 1010, Rockville, MD 20852.

Walter Buchanan Jr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Walter W. Buchanan Jr., 73, of 3339 Timothy Drive died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Fort Mill, with the Rev. Ralph Riley officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Shelby, N.C., Mr. Buchanan was retired from Schlafhorst Inc. of Charlotte. He earned a textile degree from the International Correspondence School and was a graduate of Southeastern Peoples College. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Fort Mill. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and earned the following medals: American Area Camp Medal, Asiatic Pacific, Camp Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Point System and the World War II Victory Medal.

Surviving are his wife, Betty R. Buchanan; his son, Walter W. Buchanan III of Fort Mill; his stepson, Robert Steve Burnett of Augusta, Ga.; his daughter, Charlotte Faulkenberry of Rock Hill; his stepdaughter, Gail Powell of Rock Hill; three brothers, John E. Buchanan of Fort Mill, James D. Buchanan and Larry D. Buchanan, both of Rock Hill; four sisters, Francis B. McCallister, Pat Short and Nancy Salamone, all of Fort Mill, and Sue Rockholt of Rock Hill; two grandchildren and five stepgrandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight in the fellowship hall of First Baptist Church of Fort Mill and at other times at home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Phyllis Bundy

CHESTER - Ms. Phyllis Jean Bundy, 52, of 113 Gaston St. died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, at Providence Hospital in Columbia.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Saluda Street Church of God, with the Rev. Dennis Reid officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

Surviving are two sons, Malcolm Bundy and Mark Bundy, both of Chester; two sisters, Shirley Cope of Rock Hill and Frances Hutchins of Chester; her brother, Wayne Bundy of Rock Hill; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Wright's Home for Funerals.

Memorials may be made to the Saluda Street Church of God, Saluda Street, Chester, SC 29706.

Willie Douglass Jr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Willie Floyd Douglass Jr. of 327 Fewell St. died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, at Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Rock Grove AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Ralph Washington officiating and the Rev. John Brown assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Douglass was a native of York County. He was an electrician's helper. He was a member of Rock Grove AME Zion Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in Korea from 1970 to 1972, where he served as a medic. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve.

Surviving are his mother, Annie Dixon Douglass, and his father, Willie Floyd Douglass Sr., both of Rock Hill; two brothers, Larry Darnell Douglass and Maxie Jerome Douglass, both of Rock Hill; and two sisters, Patricia Page Davis and Mary Linda D. Caldwell, both of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Robinson Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Sarah Hardin

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Sarah Shannon Hardin of 4191 Erby Road died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, at Ebenezer Nursing Home.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Sunday at New Zion Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert Brown officiating and the Revs. E.E. Vance, B.R. Wilson and M. Alexander assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Hardin was a native of Chester County. She was a member of New Zion Baptist Church and she attended the public schools of Chester County.

Surviving are two sons, Johnny Hardin and Willie Hardin, both of Rock Hill; three daughters, Carrie Hardin, Doris Simpson and Dorothy Givens, all of Rock Hill; three brothers, John Robert Cromwell of Charlotte, Arthur Shannon of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Sam Shannon Jr. of Chester; four sisters, Nettie Parks and Burnette Pinkston, both of Charlotte, Rachel Pickett and Henrietta McCleave, both of Rock Hill; 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Robinson Funeral Home.

The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Sunday.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Annie Hinton

CHESTER - Mrs. Annie R. Clowney Hinton, 85, of 1577 Hinton Road died Monday, Sept. 14, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be noon Saturday at Cedar Rock Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert Whitener officiating and the Rev. Charles E. Robinson Sr. assisting. The Rev. Andrew Hinton will give the eulogy. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Hinton was a native of Chester County. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Cedar Rock Baptist Church, where she was a deaconess, choir member and missionary. She was a former member of Armenia Baptist Church. She was the widow of Lewis W. Hinton.

Surviving are five sons, Isiah Hinton of Winnsboro, Antonio Hinton of Chester, James Hinton of San Diego, Calif., Andrew Hinton of Phoenix, Ariz., and Joseph B. Hinton of Medford, N.Y.; 10 daughters, Frances M. Hinton of the home, Nancy Corker, Dorothy Baskett, Georgianna Holley, Irene L. Hardin, Gertrude Robinson and Naomi Moore, all of Chester, Sarah J. Hinton of Irvington, N.J., Mary E. Hinton of Landover, Md., and Rosa Pearl Hinton-Lee of Manassas, Va.; her brother, Jesse Clowney of Kannapolis, N.C.; her sister, Alice Peterson of Baltimore, Md.; her stepsister, Katie Johnson of Kannapolis, N.C.; 47 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cedar Rock Baptist Church building fund, P.O. Box 1042, Chester, SC 29706.

The family will receive friends at home.

The body will be taken to the church at 11 a.m. Saturday.

The body may be viewed from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday at King's Funeral Home.

Jack Hyatt

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Mr. Jack L. Hyatt, 66, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998, at Lee Memorial Hospital in Virginia Beach, Va.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Lando Cemetery, with the Rev. Richard Harrison officiating.

A native of Lando, Mr. Hyatt was employed with the Washington Police Department until he joined the U.S. Marshals, from which he retired. He was a member of Lando Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served in the Korean conflict. He attended Lewisville High School.

Surviving are his wife, Anne C. Hyatt; two daughters, Pamela Hutchins of San Diego, Calif., and Susie Grandstaff of Virginia Beach, Va.; his brother, Clarence "Pete" Hyatt of Great Falls; four sisters, Virginia Drakeford of Leslie, Ida Black of Lando, Dot Bailey of Chester and Genelle Pendergrass of Catawba; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends in the Lando Baptist Church fellowship hall after the service.

Memorial may be made to Lando Baptist Church cemetery fund, P.O. Box 198, Lando, SC 29742 or to the charity of one's choice.
