Eula Alexander

SENECA - Mrs. Eula Lee Crooks Alexander, 80, of 728 Alexander Road died Friday, Oct. 16, 1998, at Oconee Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at Hopewell Baptist Church, with the Revs. David Shirley and Jimmy Cox officiating. Burial will follow at Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery.

Born in Elberton, Ga., she was a retired spinner for Sagamo Industries. She was first married to the late J.L. Crooks.

Surviving are her husband, Marvin Lee Alexander; three sons, James Crooks and Johnny Crooks of Seneca, and Larry Crooks of Rock Hill; four daughters, Betty Gurley and Nancy Morgan of Seneca, Peggy Bramlett of Anderson, and Martha Brock of Pickens, two step-daughters, Shelby Merck of Clemson and Sherry Cobb of Greenville; two brothers, Robert Edwards Holbrooks and Lester Holbrooks of Seneca; two sisters, Willie Ann Cox of Clemson and Ida H. Honea of Anderson; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Brown-Oglesby Funeral Home of Seneca is in charge.

Nettie Cathcart (1 of 2)

GASTONIA, N.C. - Mrs. Nettie Burns Cathcart, 73, of 969 Cox Road died Thursday, Oct. 15, 1998, at the Brian Center nursing home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday at New Hope United Methodist Church in Rock Hill, with the Rev. Lilian Washington officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A member of the New Hope United Methodist Church, Mrs. Cathcart also belonged to the Church Aid Society.

She is survived by her husband, Earlie F. Cathcart Sr. of Gastonia; five daughters, Evelyn Patterson of New Brunswick, N.J., Gloria Miller of Edison, N.J., and Mary Cathcart, Brenda Adams and Pedra Cathcart, all of Gastonia; four sons, Earlie F. Cathcart Jr. of Long Island, N.Y., Samuel Cathcart of Houston, and Bobby Cathcart and Clinzo Cathcart, both of Somerset, N.J.; a brother, Elihue Burns of Rock Hill; 33 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 6:30 tonight at Costner Funeral Home.

GASTONIA, N.C. - Mrs. Nettie Burns Cathcart, 73, of 969 Cox Road died Thursday, Oct. 15, 1998, at the Brian Center.

Mae Bell Hoke

HEATH SPRINGS - Mrs. Mae Bell Shehane Hoke, 89, of 4060 Hoke Road died Saturday, Oct. 17, 1998, at her home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday at Faith Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tracy Davis officiating. Burial will be at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Hoke was the president and owner of Hoke Lumber Company of Great Falls and co-owner of the Great Falls Sawmill Company. She was a founding member of Faith Baptist Church. She also belonged to the Home Demonstration Club for more than 20 years. She was the widow of Willie Blair Hoke Sr.

Surviving are her son, Willie B. Hoke Jr. of Heath Springs; four daughters, Bernice Player and Bessie Mullis, both of Heath Springs, Myrtle Powell of Matthews, N.C., and Doris Hoke of Mint Hill, N.C.; two brothers, Charlie Shehane and William Shehane, both of Heath Springs; her sister, Susie Blalock of Heath Springs; 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Hoke will be taken to her home today and the family will receive friends there.

Memorials may be made to Faith Baptist Church, 4695 J.B. Denton Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Cauthen Funeral Home is in charge.

Zoe Leake

YORK - Mrs. Zoe Simril Leake, 93, died Friday, Oct. 16, 1998, at White Oak Manor.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. today at Lakeview Memory Gardens, with the Revs. Todd Speed and Tom McPhail officiating.

Born in the Allison Creek area, she grew up in Rock Hill. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in York. Mrs. Leake and her late husband, Howard Leake Sr., were the founders of Leake's Antiques.

Surviving are her daughter Carolyn Clinton; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and her great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. today at York Funeral Home.

Jewel Lemmon

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Jewel Gross Lemmon, 87, of 782 Bridgewood Drive died Saturday, Oct. 17, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. today at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Spartanburg, with Dr. Thomas W. Horton Jr. officiating.

Mrs. Lemmon was a retired school teacher for Spartanburg County Public Schools. She was an alumna of Winthrop College and a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Spartanburg. She was the widow of Francis Marion Lemmon Sr.

Surviving are her son, Dr. Francis M. "Bo" Lemmon, seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of Dr. Francis "Bo" and Anna Lemmon, 782 Bridgewood Drive.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave, Rock Hill, SC 29732.

Mary Norwood

RICHBURG - Miss Mary Lucas Norwood, formerly of Richburg, died Friday, Oct. 16, 1998, at Tanglewood Nursing Home in Ridgeway.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. today at McBee Cemetery in McBee, with Dr. Allen Derrick officiating.

Born in Bethune, Mrs. Norwood was a teacher and a member of Union ARP Church in Richburg. She attended McBee High School and Appalachian State College.

Surviving are two nieces, Rebecca Reid Williams of Richburg and Ann Reid Austin of Nairobi, Kenya; and two nephews, James T. Norwood of Columbia and Ben L. Norwood of Hartsville.

Barron Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Deanie Small

KERSHAW - Mrs. Deanie Morgan Small, 83, of 3251 Gold Mine Highway died Friday, Oct. 16, 1998, in Kershaw County Medical Center in Camden.

Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Midway Baptist Church, with the Revs. Randall Runion and Donald Coppedge officiating.

Surviving are two daughters, Tincy S. Bledsoe and Elsie L. Small, both of Lancaster; two sons, John F. Small of Lugoff and George T. Small Jr. of Kershaw; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one step grandson and two step great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Mahaffey Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.
