Gladys Adams

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Gladys Hardin Adams, 78, of 4321 McConnells Highway died Sunday, Oct. 18, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Olivet Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Chip McArthur officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A Smyrna native, Mrs. Adams was a homemaker. She was a member of Olivet Presbyterian Church and the Leisure Time Group and worked with the flower displays for the York County Fair Association for more than 43 years.

Surviving are her husband, Joseph C. Adams Jr.; four sons, Joseph C. "Buck" Adams, Barry L. "Butch" Adams, Fred D. Adams and Kenneth L. Adams, all of Rock Hill; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bass Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Olivet Presbyterian Church, 159 Church St. in McConnells.

Janie Bass

KERSHAW - Miss Janie Darlene Bass, 45, of 4516-A Catawba Road in Kershaw died Saturday, Oct. 17, 1998, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cauthen Funeral Home of Kershaw, with the Revs. Alton Bowers, Donnie Barrett and George Hughes officiating. Burial will be at the Gum Springs Holiness Church cemetery.

Miss Bass is a Cassatt native. She attended Gum Springs Holiness Church and was employed at Hermitage Mills.

Surviving are her son, John J. "Joe" Bass of Kershaw; her daughter, Toronda Gail McAllister of Kershaw; her mother, Janie B. Price of Kershaw; two brothers, Joseph B. "Ben" Bass and Richard C. "Buddy" Bass, both of Kershaw; her stepbrother, Roy Price of Heath Springs; two stepsisters, Ruby Gladden of Sumter and Leslie Broome of Monroe, N.C.; two grandchildren; and nine step-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Toronda Gail McAllister, 207 1/2 Mackey Drive in Kershaw.

Elsie Chandler

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Elsie Langley Chandler of Rock Hill died Sunday, Oct. 18, 1998, at Meadow Haven Rehabilitation and Specialty Care Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's United Methodist Church, with Dr. Tim McClendon officiating and the Rev. Linda Dunn assisting.

A native of Plum Branch, Mrs. Chandler taught school for 38 years in South Carolina, spending 36 years in Rock Hill schools. She was a 1936 graduate of Winthrop College, was a charter member of Alpha Delta Kappa honorary society for women educators and a member of the Winthrop Alumnae Emmaus Community. She was a past president of the Rock Hill Classroom Teachers Association and a past president of the Alpha Alpha chapter of the Alpha Delta Kappa society. She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church and involved in many church activities. She was the widow of J. Ashton Chandler Sr.

Surviving are her son, Julian A. Chandler II of Sewickley, Pa; three grandsons; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Bass Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church, 321 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC, or to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

Anne Hansen

FORT MILL - Mrs. Anne Raurek Hansen, 80, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 1998, at her home.

The funeral will be 6 p.m. today at Wolfe Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Kemp officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills, N.Y.

Born in New York City, Mrs. Hansen was a retired accountant and had moved to Fort Mill 12 years ago. She attended the Fort Mill Church of God and was the widow of Mark Hansen.

Surviving are two sons, Ken Hansen of Carmel, Ind., and Mark Hansen of West Islip, N.Y.; her daughter, Carole Ann Hansen of Fort Mill; two sisters, Mary Klein and Olga Bolles, both of Fort Mill; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gideons, P.O. Box 314, Fort Mill, SC 29716.

Mr. Willie McDaniel

RICHBURG - Mr. Willie McDaniel, 57, of 4714 Lancaster Highway died Thursday, Oct. 15, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Ararat AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Leroy Ellison officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. McDaniel drove for a trucking company for many years. He attended Mount Ararat AME Zion Church and Elizabeth Heights High School in Great Falls.

Surviving are his son, Robert Darryl Evans of Great Falls; his legal guardian, Eula Lee White of Richburg; his brother, Willie McDaniel III of North Carolina; his sister, Mary Chesley Snowden of Baltimore; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 tonight at Washington Funeral Home in Great Falls.

The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Susie Royal

WASHINGTON - Mrs. Susie McCullough Royal, 59, of 722 24th St., N.E., formerly of Chester, died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Burial will be in Washington.

Mrs. Royal was a homemaker and a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church in Chester. She attended Mount Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Finley High School in Chester.

Surviving are her son, Jerald Royal of Washington; two brothers, Jessie J. McCullough of Washington and Willie J. McCullough of Chester; and three sisters, Bernice McCullough of Washington, Annie L. Davidson of Maryland and Frankie McCullough of Chester.

Stewart Funeral Home is in charge. King's Funeral Home of Chester is in charge of local announcements.

William Archie

FORT MILL - Mr. William Harvey Archie, 77, of 226 S. White St. died Sunday, Oct. 18, 1998, at his home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Monson officiating. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery.

A native of York County, Mr. Archie served in the U.S. Army in Europe, where he received two bronze stars. He later served in the National Guard and was a member of American Legion No. 43 and VFW Post No. 9138. Mr. Archie retired from Springs Industries after more than 25 years and later worked for the town of Fort Mill as a meter reader. He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church.

Surviving are nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home and at other times at the home, 226 S. White St., Fort Mill, SC 29715.

Memorials may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church, 130 Tom Hall St., Fort Mill, SC 29715.

Philip Boswell

GALIVANTS FERRY - Mr. Philip E. Boswell, 39, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 1998.

A memorial service will be 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Richardson-Miles Funeral Home.

Born in Lancaster, Mr. Boswell was employed by AVM of Marion and was a Catholic.

Surviving are two sons, Michael and Neal Boswell, both of Myrtle Beach; his daughter, Jennifer Boswell of Ada, Okla.; his mother, Sandra Ledbetter Boswell; two brothers, William T. "Tommy" Boswell Jr. of Rock Hill and Chris Boswell of Spartanburg; three sisters, Rhonda B. Head of Inman, Amanda Clemm of Lancaster and Marie Philpott of Calabash, N.C.; and his maternal grandmother, Jeanett Ledbetter of Lancaster.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Richardson-Miles Funeral Home in Marion.
