Sadie Alexander

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Sadie Neal McManus Alexander, 94, of 1915 Ebenezer Road died Friday, May 7, 1999, at White Oak Manor.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Woodhaven Baptist Church, with Dr. Tom Patterson and the Rev. Paul Noe officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. at Lakeland Memorial Park in Monroe, N.C.

A native of Monroe, Mrs. Alexander was the daughter of the late William and Shara Wolfe McManus. She retired from J.P. Stevens' Industrial Plant in Rock Hill after 25 years and was a member of Woodhaven Baptist Church.

Mrs. Alexander was the widow of Cornelious Page Alexander.

Surviving are her son, William P. "Bill" Alexander of Rock Hill; her daughter, Annie Lee Winchester of Lancaster; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of her son, Bill Alexander, at 1881 Huntington Place.

Memorials may be made to Woodhaven Baptist Church, 2044 Marett Blvd., Rock Hill, SC 29732 or to the charity of one's choice.

Greene Funeral Home is in charge.

Grace Frazier

CAMDEN - Mrs. Grace Hearon Frazier, 67, of 680 Truesdale Road died Friday, May 7, 1999, at the Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Monday at the Refuge Baptist Church, with the Revs. Clarence Dorman and Jimmy Atkerson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

A native of Kershaw County, Mrs. Frazier is a daughter of the late John William and Mary Beatrice McCaskill Hearon. She was a Sunday school teacher at Refuge Baptist Church, a member of the Pilot Club and a retired assistant vice president of operations at Wachovia Bank.

Surviving are her husband, William H. Frazier; two daughters, Jane Rhame and Elizabeth "Polly" Sturkie; seven sisters, Nellie Hayes of Kershaw, Linnie Rogers and Sarah Taylor, both of Cassatt, Theo Branham of Pontiac and Annie Bell Anderson, Kathleen Hinson and Louise Horton, all of Camden; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the Cauthen Funeral Home, Kershaw chapel, and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to the Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital Cancer Center, 7 Richland Park Drive, Columbia, SC 29721.

Cauthen Funeral Home, Kershaw chapel, is in charge.

James Johns Sr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. James "Jim" Edward Johns Sr., 61, of Greenbay Drive died Friday, May 7, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Episcopal Church of Our Savior, with the Rev. Thomas B. Carter officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

Mr. Johns was a native of Atlanta. He was a graduate of Georgia Tech and the University of Southern California. He was a Vietnam War veteran. He retired from the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant commander in Electronic Warfare.

Mr. Johns worked for C.S.C. and S.E.L. in Virginia before retiring. He was a member of the St. Matthias Episcopal Church choir. He was a lay Eucharistic minister and sang in the York County Choral Society.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Schrader Johns; his son, James El Johns Jr. of Atlanta; two daughters, Cassandra Johns of Atlanta and Deidre Pundt of Rock Hill; his stepdaughter, Karen Banks Brown of Ellijay, Ga.; five stepsons, Walter Banks of Merrillville, Ind., William Armstrong of Manassas, Va., James Armstrong of Reston, Va., John Armstrong of Rock Hill and Paul Armstrong of Centreville, Va.; two brothers, Michael Johns of Hampton, Ga., and Robert Johns of Morrow, Ga.; and nine grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Bass Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to St. Matthias Episcopal Church, 1044 Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29732.

Connie Lane

LANCASTER - Mrs. Connie Blackmon Lane, 94, a former resident of Lancaster's Douglas community, died Friday, May 7, 1999, at Northside Health Care in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hartley Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kenneth Catoe officiating. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mrs. Lane was a homemaker and a member of Franklin Road Baptist Church.

She was the daughter of the late Ben and Lenora Blackmon and widow of James Herbert Lane.

Survivors include her daughter, Martha Kemle of Murfreesboro; her brother, John T. Blackmon of Lancaster; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hartley Funeral Home.

Ada Plott

AIKEN - Mrs. Ada Louise Clezie Plott, 85, of 801 Woodward St. died Saturday, May 8, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The graveside service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park in Edgefield, with the Rev. Paul Hall officiating.

Mrs. Plott was a native of California. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Survivors include her husband, John Plott; her brother, Redge Pragnell of Idaho; three daughters, Claudette Drummond of Rock Hill, Loretta Carson of Houston, Texas, and Dianne Burnett of Sheldon; her sister, Edna Foster of Bakersfield, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday at the Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home.

Emma Robinson

CATAWBA - Mrs. Emma Geneva Clinton Robinson, 71, of 247 Leisure Lane died Friday, May, 7, 1999, at the Kershaw County Medical Center in Camden.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at the chapel of Greene Funeral Home, with Dr. Tommy Huddleston and the Rev. Rick Sturgis officiating. Burial will be in the Catawba Baptist Church cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Robinson was a daughter of the late Palmer Reid and Esther Irene Smith Clinton. A member of the Catawba Baptist Church, she retired after 25 years working at the Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Co.

Mrs. Robinson was the widow of Ney Bledsoe Robinson.

Surviving are two sons, Robbie Robinson of Camden and Johnny Robinson of Kings Mountain, N.C.; her brother, Palmer Ray Clinton of Memphis, Tenn.; two sisters, Eva Gregory and Ruth Carter, both of Rock Hill; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Catawba Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 2659 Catawba Church Road, Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Manuel Waldrop

CLOVER - Mr. Manuel N. Waldrop, 53, of Echo Springs Circle died Wednesday, May 5, 1999.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at York Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Ellis officiating. Burial will follow at the Oakdale Presbyterian Church cemetery.

Mr. Waldrop was a Greenville County native. He was a self-employed carpenter and a Baptist.

Mr. Waldrop served in the U.S. Army for 15 years and reached the rank of staff sergeant. The Vietnam veteran received a Purple Heart, the Air Medal, the Silver Star, the Army Commendation Medal and the First Cavalry Division Vietnam Combat Certificate.

He was the son of the late A.T. and Mary Elizabeth Hudson Waldrop.

Survivors include two brothers, Grady Waldrop and Willie Waldrop, both of York; two sisters, Coreen Carnes and Martha Waldrop, both of York; and four half-sisters, Ellen Bramlete, Nettie Hunter, Grace Vaterno and Gladys Crowe, all of Toccoa, Ga.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Monday at York Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Coreen Carnes, 3175 W. Highway 55, York.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 319 E. Main St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.
