Kathleen Dee. Meyer
(July 27, 1944 - September 28, 2008)

Kathy Meyer, age 64, of New Brighton, MN; died Sunday, September 28, 2008.

Kathleen Dee Meyer was born July 28, 1944 to George and Gertrude Gerrits. Kathy was a kindergarten teacher and an actress in Christian Drama having performed over 6000 times. She was Director of Christian Education most recently at Lake Harriet United Methodist Church. Kathy was a regional director for Godly Play, an intersensory concept of God’s message through Biblical stories.

PRECEDED IN DEATH BY: her parents; one sister, Donna Gulstine and one nephew David Gulstine.

SURVIVORS: include her husband Jim; one son Tim; one daughter Ame; one grandson Shawn; and one nephew Gary (Diana) Gulstine.

MEMORIALS: may be directed to Godly Play Foundation; c/o Jim Meyer, 2177 Sioux Blvd., New Brighton, MN 55112

Visitation: There will be no visitation.

Vincent W. Turner
Died Jan. 10, 2012

Ivanhoe, Minn. - Vincent W. Turner, 63, of Ivanhoe, Minn., died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012, at the Sioux Falls VA Health System in Sioux Falls.

Funeral services are at 11a.m. Saturday at the Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Ivanhoe with the Rev. Ron Huberty officiating.

Burial is at the Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery in Ivanhoe, Minn.

Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the Birk Funeral Home in Ivanhoe with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and the rosary 5 p.m. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Beverly Turner of Ivanhoe and his two children, Melissa (Matt) Turner of Sioux Falls and Richard (Jackie) Turner of Brookings.

Edward J. Mulder
Sept. 3, 1935 – Jan. 7, 2012

Volga - Edward J. Mulder, 76, died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls.

Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Reformed Church in Volga. Burial is in Trinity Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga.

Edward Junior Mulder was born Sept. 3, 1935, in Volga to Ed and Etta (Vallinga) Mulder.

He lived on a farm east of Aurora. When he was 14 his family moved to Volga. He attended a country school until the seventh grade and then graduated from Volga Public High School in 1954. He worked in Sioux Falls for a few months and then joined the Army in 195, 5 where he spent 18 months in Germany.

He married Marion Van Den Bosch on June 10, 1959. Edward served as a Cub Scoutmaster, a volunteer fireman and fire chief. He also served as a deacon of the First Reformed Church.

Edward worked as a mechanic for 25 years. He had an auto repair shop in Volga, Ed’s Auto Repair, for several years. He finished his career with the Brookings School System and retired in 2000. Edward loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife; three children, Debrah Lynne (Dan) Chinander, Randal Edward (Sara) Mulder and Bradley Wade Mulder; three grandchildren; a brother, Arthur and a sister, Henrietta TeKrony.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, Douglas Edward; three brothers, Dewey, Raymond and Henry and three sisters, Tessie VanderWal, Nellie Knutson and Augusta Heemeyer.

Jean Tribble
Oct. 13, 1935 – Jan. 10, 2012

Aberdeen - Jean Tribble, 76, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012, at Aberdeen Health and Rehab.

Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, 502 S. Lincoln St. in Aberdeen with the Rev. Tom Haggar officiating. Burial is at Riverside Memorial Park, Aberdeen. Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary & Crematory in Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary followed by a prayer service at 5 p.m. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Martha Jean Sanderson was born on Oct. 13, 1935, to William Earl and Martha (Webster) Sanderson on a farm near Crandall. She attended Crandall grade school and graduated from Conde High School in 1953. Jean then furthered her education at the Aberdeen School of Commerce.

Jean married Ed Tribble on Sept. 8, 1956, at Conde. They had two daughters, Susan and Kathy. Jean worked at the Dakota Farmer in Aberdeen, until the couple started their family. She then became a stay-at-home mom and homemaker while her children were young. They later moved to Brookings, where they owned and operated Tribble Motors for several years. They returned to Aberdeen, and Jean worked at the Cotman Hagen Insurance Agency. Jean was also a Weight Watcher’s leader for more than 30 years. Ed died in 1992 and Jean continued to make Aberdeen her home until the time of her death.

Jean was a member of First United Methodist Church in Aberdeen for many years. She also was a volunteer each summer for the Brown County Fair. Jean loved traveling and sports. She was a dedicated fan of the Brown County Speedway and especially enjoyed attending NSU basketball games. Jean loved to talk and laugh and never met anyone she couldn’t have a conversation with. She loved spending time with her family and friends and her cat, "Pumpkin."

Surviving Jean are her daughters, Susan Zacher (Harry Podhradsky) of Tea and Kathy (Bob) Zerr of Aberdeen; 11 grandchildren; a brother, Richard (Dorothy) Sanderson of Conde; a sister, Hazel Reeve of Princeton, Minn., and one sister-in-law, Joyce Sanderson of Conde.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed and one brother, Jim Sanderson.

Robert L. Lanam
June 12, 1965 - May 13, 2012

Robert L. "Rob" Lanam, 46, of Volga, SD passed away Sunday, May 13, 2012 as a result of a motorcycle accident in Pipestone, MN. Memorial Services have been set for 11:00am Friday, May 18th, 2012 at First Lutheran Church, Volga, SD. Memorial Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 7:00pm Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Rude’s Funeral Home, Brookings, SD.

Robert L. Lanam was born June 12, 1965, in Brookings, SD, the son of Dwayne Roger and Lois (Anderson) Lanam. He grew up and attended school in Volga, SD, graduating from Sioux Valley High School in 1983.

Rob was a member of the Bruce Fire Department in Bruce, SD.

Rob was currently working at Twin City Fan of Brookings, SD. He owned the Lone Star Saloon in Bruce, SD. He enjoyed cars and was an avid motorcycle rider. He also enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews when they visited.

Rob was kindhearted, loving, giving person to family and friends.

Rob is survived by his mother, Lois Farrell of Fort Pierce, FL; his siblings, Gary (Lynda) Lanam of Orlando, FL, Michael (Jennifer) Lanam of Sebastian, FL, Shari Jensen of Oldham, SD, Lisa Turgeon of Manchester, NH and Sherryanne (Donald) Langland of Bruce, SD along with many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, father, one nephew, Brandon Turgeon and one brother-in-law, Brad Jensen.

In Lieu of flowers, family suggest Memorials be given to the charity of your choice in Rob’s name.

Patsy J. Dickey
(November 13, 1929 - October 5, 2008)

Patsy J. Dickey "Granny", age 78, of Madison, died Sunday, October 5, 2008, at Bethel Lutheran Home, Madison.

Patsy J. Moody was born November 13, 1929 at Eureka Springs, AK to George and Lena (Moody) Murphy. She was raised by Elmer and Hattie Moody and graduated from high school in Bishop, CA. She was a housekeeper at various motels throughout her life.

PRECEDED IN DEATH BY: her parents; two children, Donald Brown and Phyllis Kiner; and one grandson Jeffrey Brown.

SURVIVORS: include one son, Carl Brown of Arkansas; two daughters, Letha (David, Sr.) Meehan of Montrose and Carol Johnson of Sioux Falls; 14 grandchildren, Geraldine "Geri", Howard, Ruth, David Jr., Damon, Kyndra, Karli, Autumn, Emily, Gregory, Kyle, Gunner, Mark and Donald; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great–great-granddaughter.

Visitation: There will be no visitation.

Memorial Service: 2:00 PM Thursday, October 9, 2008 Ellsworth Funeral Home, Madison, South Dakota

Interment: Inurnment at a later date in Pioneer Cemetery at Bishop, CA

Dale George Krahn
Feb. 22, 1924 – Jan. 4, 2012

Arlington - Dale George Krahn, 87, died at the Texas State Veterans Home in McAllen, Texas, on Wednesday, Jan, 4, 2012.

Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Arlington.

Dale was born Feb. 22, 1924, and lived most of his life in Arlington. He served in the Navy during World War II. He taught school in Dell Rapids. He farmed for many years and served as the postmaster in Arlington.

He is survived by his wife, Adele; children, Marsha (David) Moore of Bradbury, Calif., Steve Krahn of Arlington, Jill (Rick) Seagrave of Springfield, Mo., and Jayne (Alan Williams) Krahn of Austin, Texas; stepchildren Patricia and Charles in Canada, 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Marlys Glawe Krahn and his brothers, Ralph and Wayne.

Arrangements are being made by the Johnson-Henry Funeral Home in Arlington. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church, American Legion, Arlington Community Fund or a charity of your choice.

Marvin Henry Meyer
March 24, 1920 – Jan. 5, 2012

Tyndall - Marvin Henry Meyer, 91, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, at The Good Samaritan Home in Tyndall.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. today at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Tyndall with the Rev. Dean Schroeder officiating. Burial was in the Tyndall Cemetery. Visitation was Sunday at the Goglin Funeral Home in Tyndall.

Marvin was born March 24, 1920, on the family farm near Elkton to Arthur Sr. and Ella (Sandkamp) Meyer. Marvin attended country school in Brookings County. He attended Elkton High School for three years before graduating from Watertown High School in 1937. After attending SDSU for one year, he moved to California and worked at Lockheed Aircraft from 1940-1942. He returned to South Dakota to work on the family farm near Watertown.

On Sept. 10, 1944, he married Avis R. A. "Morky" Mork in Granite Falls, Minn. From that day on, you rarely heard one name without the other – "Marv & Morky" were a team like no other. Marvin began his lifelong career with George A. Hormel & Company working in Austin, Minn., and Mitchell.

He opened the first hog buying station in Tyndall in August 1949, which he operated for 37 years until his retirement in 1985.

During these years he enjoyed many friendships with local farmers. Marvin and Morky moved to Brookings in 2004 and returned to Tyndall to live in the North Point apartments in the summer of 2011.

Marv and Morky celebrated a wonderful partnership of 67 years of marriage.

For their first anniversary they went camping in a tent and that was the beginning of over 60 years of camping and traveling throughout the U.S. Dancing, fishing and gardening were times enjoyed together. Marv was an avid hunter and collector of antique Red Wing stoneware.

He was a 50-year member of the Tyndall Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow, Tyndall City Council member and president of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where he also served as treasurer for 25 years.

He is survived by his wife, Avis Meyer of Tyndall; his sons Roger (Van) of Yankton, Larry (Anne) of Yankton; David (Patricia) of Brookings and his daughter, Julie (Michael) Heyl of Lincoln, Neb.; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his siblings Delwin (Eloise) Meyer of Huntsville, Ala.; Lon (Miriam) Meyer of Phoenix and two sisters-in-law Ruth Elshere of Watertown and Eunice Meyer of South Shore.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.

Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church and The Good Samaritan Society.

Orie Verhoek
April 18, 1924 – Jan. 5, 2017

Estelline - Orie Verhoek, 92, of Estelline died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017, at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center.

Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Friday at Mt. Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church in Estelline. Visitation is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Geise Funeral Chapel in Estelline.

Orie Verhoek was born on April 18, 1924, in Castleton, N.D., the son of Henry and Mattie (Aamen) Verhoek. Orie received his education in Deuel County.

He married Rebecca ‘Becky’ Schnoor on Dec. 13, 1961, in Brookings County. After their marriage, they farmed in Hamlin County until their retirement in 1991, when they moved into Estelline.

Orie enjoyed riding motorcycle, restoring old gasoline engines and taking them to various events, playing cards, playing his accordion, and going to sales.

Orie is survived by his wife, Becky, of Estelline; son, David (LeeAnn) Verhoek of Bruce; daughter, Carla Verhoek, of Halstead, Minn.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Marion Verhoek of Sioux Falls; a sister, Dena Bolt, of Fruitport, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Arlene Verhoek of Estelline and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by five brothers, John Corney, Niece, Gerret and Henry, and two sisters, Cora and Jennie.
