Sep 8, 1908 - Feb 2, 2009

Alma was born on a farm south west of Milbank to Nels and Hannah (Magnuson) Nord. She was the 10th of 14 children. She had polio at 3 and was toughened by the experience and by her parents who refused to make any accommodations for her disabilities. They believed it best that she learn to cope. And that she did. She developed a positive, can-do attitude never waivered throughout her life. She remained close to her parents and brothers and sisters while they were alive.

They are all gone now as she was the last of the 14 to leave us. The many family reunions of earlier years have been gradually replaced by gatherings of the cousins.

She was married to Alfred J. Lundberg in Strandburg on April 12, 1931.

Shortly thereafter, they moved to Estelline where Alfred was a teller at the Farmers State Bank.

Later Alfred managed the Estelline Community Oil Company. Her family and religion were always paramount to her, as were her many close friends who she treated like family. While her husband was the head of the building committee for the present Trinity Church, Alma was the church historian.

After Alfred retired from the Estelline Community Oil Company, they joined friends and toured with the Airstream Trailer group for several years.

Later, after Alfred’s death she would spend part of each winter with her two children, Yvonne in Bloomington, Minnesota, and Dar in Fairfax Station, Virginia. She did this for 36 years, making her last unaccompanied flight to Virginia at age 97. While Dar was in the Marine Corps, she spent part of her winters in Hawaii and California, where he was stationed. She entered the Estelline Nursing and Care Center in March of 2007 and died there. She was completely at home there and was very pleased with the devoted care she received.

Alma is survived by her two children Yvonne (Rollin) Johnson and Darwin (Lynda) Lundberg, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, eight brothers, five sisters, and son-in-law.
