Rod Lane Vincent was born on Aug. 22, 1960 in De Smet to Roland (Red) and Jean (Steever) Vincent. He grew up in Erwin and attended school there until the school closed; they later moved to Lake Preston. In his younger years, Rod made many memories livin’ it up with his brothers and buddies from the De Smet, Erwin, and Lake Preston area. Rod was a member of the 153rd Engineer Battalion out of De Smet from May of 1978 to May of 1984.
Rod married Ruth (Doescher) Vincent on May 23, 1980 in Arlington. She then began trying to tame some of the “Vincent” out of him. They made their forever home in Badger, where Rod was a member of the Badger Volunteer Fire Department. From their marriage, three children were born: Jesse, Jamie, and Haley. Rod loved watching his children grow up and especially enjoyed following their sporting events. They specifically remember hearing his voice from the crowd with his opinion on how they were playing.
Rod and Ruth spent a lot of their time continuing to be devoted Arlington Cardinal fans and rarely missed a sporting event. Rod also enjoyed riding his Harley and just hopping in the car for long road trips with Ruthie.
Rod was a hard worker and had many various jobs throughout his life, most of them being mechanic work. For the past 26 years, Rod was employed at Arlington Community Oil/Arlington Farmers Elevator/Prairie Ag Partners, starting out as a shop hand, then moving on to bulk fuel driver, and eventually becoming manager. Several of his greatest friendships were built there with the employees, patrons, and farmers.
Rod was also an avid dirt track racing fan and pit crew member for his favorite driver, No. 37 Scott Ward. He spent most weekends in the spring and summer enjoying the races and even made trips to Texas and Arizona with his racing buddies.
In Rod’s 6-year battle with NETS, he did many different treatments to ward off his cancer including an 18-month clinical trial out of Iowa City with Dr. O’dorisio, one of the top NETS specialists in the US. He also traveled to Denver to see Dr. Liu another specialist and was currently under the care of Dr. Addo in Watertown. He fought a long, courageous battle. We are all proud.
Grateful for sharing his life are his wife of 36 years, Ruth Vincent, his son Jesse (Jeani) Vincent of Arlington and their children Ellisyn, Emarie, and Easton; son Jamie (Darcy)Vincent of Brookings and their sons Hudson and Hunter; daughter Haley (Taylor Kurth) of Hendricks, Minn.; brother and sisters, Jake Vincent of DeSmet, Coleen Vincent of Park River, N.D., Dianne Mulder (Troy Damm) of Badger, Tonya (John) Kukowski of Jamestown, N.D., Carson (Loretta) Aaneson of Laramie, Wyo., Chip (Lynn) Aaneson of Laramie, Wyo., Susan Dieckman of Sioux Falls and Tim (Christie) Aaneson of Farenam, Neb. and several nieces and nephews.
