Aberdeen -- The funeral for Margaret Linden, 85, of Aberdeen will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Spitzer-Osthus Funeral Home, 320 Sixth Ave. S.E. The Rev. James E. Clarke will officiate.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the funeral home.
She died Friday, May 11, 2001, at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.
Margaret Hoff was born June 4, 1915, to Henry and Philippina (Knapp) Hoff in Eureka. This is the area where she grew up and attended school.
She married Halvor 'Harry' Linden on Dec. 17, 1944, in Chicago. They made their home in Chicago. He died Sept. 23, 1998. In 1999, she moved to Aberdeen.
Survivors include one sister, Lorraine Gilland of Aberdeen; three brothers, Calvin Hoff of Bismarck, N.D., Allen Hoff of Sacramento, Calif., and Edwin Hoff of Lodi, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers and four sisters.
Casketbearers will be Glen Meidinger, Bob Jakober, Calvin Hoff, Jim Hoff and Robert Gloss.
Ruth L. Nelson
Aberdeen -- Ruth L. Nelson of Aberdeen died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Manorcare Health Services in Aberdeen.
A private family service will be at a later date in Wisconsin.
Her body was cremated. Spitzer-Osthus Funeral Home, 320 Sixth Ave. S.E., is in charge of arrangements.
Ruth L. Jackson was born Sept. 2, 1913, to Alrik and Clara (Aska) Jacobson in Chicago. She grew up and attended school in the Chicago area, graduating from Carl Schurz High School in 1931. She attended business college for six months before attending nursing school, where she graduated.
She married Donald Petersen on Oct. 17, 1936, in Chicago. She worked at the Swedish Convenant Hospital until 1943. In 1971, she moved to Rogers, Ark., where she worked for St. Mary's Hospital until 1973. She then moved back to Chicago.
She married Alex Anderskow on Feb. 23, 1977, in Clearwater, Fla. He died in 1996. She then moved to Aberdeen.
She married Roy Nelson at Delamere, N.D. They made their home in Joplin, Mo. He died in 1998, and she moved back to Aberdeen.
Survivors include one son, Byron (Deanna) Petersen of Aberdeen; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, and two brothers.
Ford F. Fowler
Aberdeen -- The funeral for Ford F. Fowler, 89, of Aberdeen will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, 502 S. Lincoln St. The Rev. Joel Winckler will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park with military rites by Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post No. 24 of Aberdeen. Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.
He died Friday, May 11, 2001, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor.
Ford Free Fowler was born March 6, 1912, to Zebina and Minnie (De Young) Fowler in Aberdeen. He grew up in Aberdeen and attended public school, graduating from Aberdeen Central High School in 1929. He attended Northern Normal and Industrial School in Aberdeen and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in education in 1933. He then taught school for a short time. In 1935, he started working at the Aberdeen post office as a substitute clerk.
He married Helen Gillick on May 6, 1940, in Aberdeen. In May 1943 he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and participated in the Invasion of Iwo Jima. He was wounded in February 1945 and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He returned to Aberdeen in March 1946 and continued his employment at the post office. He was promoted to assistant postmaster in February 1957, and continued to work there until his retirement on June 15, 1967. He and his wife continued to make their home in Aberdeen. She died May 12, 1991.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Men's Group, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, National Association of Retired Federal Employees and AARP.
He enjoyed working around the house, craftwork, hunting and fishing.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers and one sister.
Casketbearers will be Ted G. Fowler, John C. Fowler, Brice C. Walker, Jerry Roberts, Mike Coyne and Jim C. Harr.

Edwin Sundberg
Groton -- The funeral for Edwin Sundberg, 84, of Groton will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Emmanuel Lu-theran Church in Groton. The Rev. Stephen Swenson will officiate.
Burial will be in the Groton Union Cemetery with military graveside rites by American Legion Post No. 39 of Groton. Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel in Groton is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel with the family present from 6 to 7 p.m.
He died Thursday, May 10, 2001, at the Beverly Healthcare Center in Groton.
Edwin Sundberg was born Sept. 6, 1916, to Arthur and Bertha (Stolsmark) Sundberg in rural Brown County. At an early age he moved with his family to a farm near Pierpont.
He married Ardis Paulson from Pierpont on Nov. 27, 1941. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in North Africa and Italy. On Oct. 10, 1944, while serving as a radio operator for the artillery, he was awarded the Bronze Star. After receiving his honorable discharge, they moved to Groton, where they farmed and operated a trucking business hauling grain, gravel, and livestock.
He was a longtime member of the American Legion Post No. 39 of Groton.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and casino trips. He also enjoyed the annual family camping and fishing trips.
Survivors include two sons, Paul (Darleen) Sundberg of Westminster, Colo., and Steve (Carol) Sundberg of Bismarck, N.D.; two grandchildren; and one great-grand-child.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and two brothers.
Charles William Johnston
Robbinsdale, Minn. -- Charles William Johnston, infant son of Aaron Johnston and Nicki Erlenbusch, died Thursday, May 10, 2001, in Robbinsdale due to a rare medical condition.
His memorial service will be at noon Monday at Gearty-Delmore Funeral Chapels in Robbinsdale.
A burial service was held May 12.
He was born March 6, 2001, in Minneapolis.
Survivors include his parents of Robbinsdale; his grandparents, Don and Linda Erlenbusch of Aberdeen, Lola McDaniel and Tom Knudson; his great-grandparents, Coke and Naomi Nelson, AnnMay and Marion Johnston, Hulda Erlenbusch and Ernest and Mary Kay Wingen.
Alice M. Larson
Pierpont -- The funeral for Alice M. Larson, 84, of Pierpont will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Evangelical Lutheran Church of Langford. The Rev. Janine Rew-Werling will officiate. Burial will be in the Falnes Cemetery near Langford with Price Funeral Chapel in Britton in charge of arrangements.
A prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the church in Langford.
Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel in Britton. There will also be visitation from 6:30 p.m. until the conclusion of the prayer service Monday and for one hour prior to the funeral service Tuesday, all at the church in Langford.
She died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at the Marshall County Healthcare Center in Britton after a long battle with cancer.
Alice Mabel Johnson was born April 25, 1917, to Olaf and Hattie (Waage) Johnson in Winger, Minn. In 1920, she moved with her family to Langford and lived on her grandparents' farm. They later moved to a farm one mile east of Falnes Lutheran Church. She attended Harmony Hill 202 School through the eighth grade.
She married Clifford M. Larson of Langford on June 30, 1937. They farmed in Independence Township, Day County until 1986, when they moved to Pierpont. He died Dec. 1, 1991, and she continued to make her home in Pierpont.
She was a member of Falnes Lutheran Church. She was president of the Evangelical Lutheran Church Women for 12 years and president and treasurer of Naomi Circle. She also served as a Sunday school teacher and superintendent for many years.
She loved baking and decorating cakes. She also enjoyed making quilts for Lutheran Relief and her family and gardening.
Survivors include four sons, Clark Larson and Dale (Bonnie) Larson, both of Langford, Dennis (Shirley) Larson of Groton, and Roger (Diane) Larson of Rochester, Minn.; one daughter, Joyce (Andy) Skovran of Spokane, Wash.; two sisters, Mary Ann Johnson of Rapid City, and Marlyce Miller of Amery, Wis.; two brothers, Orlyn Johnson of Pharr, Texas, and Virgil Johnson of Omaha, Neb.; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one sister.
Casketbearers will be her grandchildren and their spouses.
Floyd W. Ahlstrom
Hitchcock -- Floyd W. Ahlstrom, 75, of Hitchcock died Monday, May 7, 2001, at the Huron Nursing Home.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Riverview United Methodist Church in Huron. The Rev. Duane Ferrie will officiate.
Burial will be in the Altoona Cemetery in Hitchcock with military rites. Kuhler Funeral Home in Huron is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and prior to the service Friday at the church.
Floyd Walter Ahlstrom was born Nov. 18, 1925, to Walter A. and Anna (Imker) Ahlstrom in Hitchcock. He attended McDaniel School and Hitchcock High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1944 until 1946.
He married Lila Harms on April 26, 1945, in Huron. They had two children. She died in 1950. He farmed for many years and then worked as a houseparent at the South Dakota Developmental Center in Redfield from 1970 until his retirement in 1985.
He married Carol Ann Brock on June 16, 1952, in Webster.
He attended the United Methodist Church in Hitchcock. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2755 in Redfield, American Legion Post No. 84 of Hitchcock and the Hitchcock Senior Citizens Center.
Survivors include five daughters, Kathy (Bill) Hill of Casper, Wyo., Sheila (Darrel) Hampton of Huron, Yvonne Leith of Howard, Lynette (Rod) Jungemann of Wolsey and Vonita Gardner of Sioux Falls; one son, Kelvin (Susie) Ahlstrom of Bonilla; two sisters, Sylvia Ruggerio of Ceres, Calif., and Marvella Kuehl of Huron; 12 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, one grandson and one sister.
