William 'Bill' Krause
Ellendale, N.D. -- The funeral for William 'Bill' Krause, 80, of Ellendale will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Hoven Funeral Chapel in Ellendale. The Rev. Jim Cieszynski and the Rev. Ben Motis will officiate.
Burial will be in the Ellendale City Cemetery with military honors by Herman-Schlinker Post No. 137 of Ellendale.
A prayer service will be at 8:30 tonight at the funeral chapel.
Visitation will be from 2 to 9:30 p.m. today and for one hour prior to the service Friday, all at the funeral chapel.
He died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at the Prince of Peace Care Center in Ellendale.
William 'Bill' Krause was born Aug. 15, 1920, to Gottlieb and Bertha (Bender) Krause in rural Fredonia, N.D. He received his education in Ashley, N.D., and attended the State Normal and Industrial College in Ellendale. He taught school in the Ashley area until he was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1942. When he returned home he continued his education at the State Normal and Industrial College and taught school in the Ellendale area.
He married Elsie Schick on Dec. 7, 1946, in Bowdle. They farmed in Kentner Township near Ellendale until 1973, when they moved into Ellendale. He continued to farm with his son until 1994, when he retired. He entered the Prince of Peace Care Center on March 2, 2000, and resided there until his death.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ellendale, where he served on the deacon board. He also served on the Farmers Home Administration board and the Ellendale school board.
Survivors include his wife of Ellendale; one son, Jerold (Linda) Krause of Ellendale; one daughter, Coreen (Curt) Niederbaumer of Brooklyn Center, Minn.; two sisters, Marcella Krause of Ypsilanti, Mich., and Nadine Miller of Lodi, Calif.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and one sister.
Casketbearers will be John Himange, Louie Ketterling, Herman Trautmann, Art Schock, Fred Walraven and Roger Hoffman.
Myrtle Graves
Milbank -- Memorial services for Myrtle Graves, 86, of Milbank and formerly of Mellette and Faulkton, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Christ Episcopal Church in Milbank. The Rev. Colleen Natalie-Lees will officiate.
Burial will be at 3 p.m. in the Ashton Cemetery with Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank in charge of arrangements.
There will be no visitation.
She died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at Beverly Healthcare in Milbank.
Myrtle Ruth Palmer was born Oct. 4, 1914, to George and Lillian (Gange) Palmer in Mellette. She graduated from Mellette High School. She received her teaching certificate from Northern Normal and Industrial School in Aberdeen and also attended Black Hills State Teachers College in Spearfish. She taught in rural Spink County.
She married E. Norman Graves on May 18, 1941. They moved to Faulkton where she continued to teach. The family moved to Milbank in May 1948. In the 1950s, she started a Girl Scout program. She also volunteered in the early days of the Milbank Meals on Wheels program and was a substitute teacher in local schools. He died in 1984.
She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and St. Agnes Guild.
Survivors include one daughter, Joan (Douglass M.) Graves Baillie of Atlanta; one son, Jon Charles (Cyndi Euchener) Graves of Minnetonka, Minn.; one sister, Grayce Palmer Cotton of Mellette; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Blanche Schlomer
Mobridge -- The funeral for Blanche Schlomer, 80, of Mobridge will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church in Mobridge. The Rev. Peter J. Naumann will officiate.
Burial will be in the Glenham Cemetery with Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge in charge of arrangements.
A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, and for one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
She died Monday, April 16, 2001.
Vivian LaRosh
Onida -- The funeral for Vivian LaRosh, 78, of Onida will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Onida United Methodist Church. The Rev. Mary Lee Lint and the Rev. Roland Kemink will officiate.
Burial will be in the Onida Cemetery with Luce Funeral Home in Gettysburg in charge of arrangements.
A prayer service will be at 7 tonight at the funeral home.
She died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at her home northeast of Onida.
Vivian Maxine Crosby was born July 3, 1922, to Perry and Clara (Newman) Crosby on the family farm northeast of Onida. She attended Richvalley Township School and graduated as salutatorian from Agar High School in 1940.
She married Paul LaRosh on Oct. 6, 1942, near Onida. After their marriage they lived for one year in Potter County and then moved to the Crosby farm for two years. They then moved to the Ray Hughes farm in Potter County where they lived for four years. In 1952 they moved back to the Crosby farm where they have lived since.
She was active in her church and elementary Sunday school in Onida.
She loved to cook, sew, play the piano, work crossword puzzles and work in her garden.
Survivors include her husband of Onida; two sons, Thomas (Nola) LaRosh of Onida and James LaRosh of Pierre; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, one brother and three sisters.
Casketbearers will be Brandon LaRosh, Brock Hyde, Shawn Hofer, Eric Newell, Troy Fox, Rich LaRosh and Bill Pullman.
Alvin Liedtke
Webster -- Alvin Liedtke, 76, of Webster died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at his home.
His funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Webster. The Rev. William Olsen will officiate.
Burial will be in the Webster Cemetery with military rites by Herbert McKennett Post No. 40 American Legion of Webster. Fiksdal Funeral Service of Webster is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
Donald B. Hoines
Aberdeen -- The funeral for Donald B. Hoines, 68, of Aberdeen will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1620 Milwaukee Ave. The Rev. Allan Schoonover will officiate.
Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Falnes Lutheran Cemetery near Langford with military rites by Henry Osness American Legion Post No. 141 of Langford. Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, and for one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.
He died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital.
Donald B. Hoines was born Aug. 2, 1932, to Alfred and Annie (Nichelson) Hoines on the family farm near Langford. He was raised on the family farm and attended country school. After his education he worked on the farm. In 1951, he entered the U.S. Navy where he served in the Korean War. He received an honorable discharge in 1955. After the service he worked in various construction jobs.
He married Marlene Wieker, and they made their home in Aberdeen. He was employed at Kelly Plumbing and Heating. He then went to work at Northern State College where he was head plumber of the entire campus, retiring after 25 years. He continued to make Aberdeen his home until the time of his death.
He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Henry Osness American Legion Post No. 141 of Langford, and was a past member of the Moose Lodge.
He was an avid horseshoe pitcher and enjoyed fishing, bowling and riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
Survivors include one son, Terry (Cheryl) Hoines of Inver Grove Heights, Minn.; one daughter, Cheryl (Paul) Walth of Aberdeen; his mother of Langford; one brother, David Hoines of Langford; one sister, Ardis Grorud of Grenville; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers.
Casketbearers will be Mike Sieler, Chris Walth, Mark Hoines, Kurt Hoines, Kyle Hoines, Jim Grorud and Greg Wieker.
Nancy Fey
Faulkton -- The funeral for Nancy Fey, 56, of Faulkton will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. The Rev. Avon Raczkowski will officiate.
Burial will be in the Northville Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 2 to 8 p.m. today, and from 9 a.m. Thursday until the time of the service.
She died of natural causes Monday, April 16, 2001, at Faulkton Healthcare Center.
Nancy Lee Fey was born Jan. 9, 1945, to Earl and Bessie (Lerew) Fey in Faulkton. She lived with her family on a farm near Chelsea until 1950, and then near Brentford until 1961. She developed cerebral palsy at a young age. She lived at the South Dakota Developmental Center-Redfield from 1961 until 1975. She then lived at Sioux Falls Cerebral Palsy Center until 1983. She moved to the Faulkton Nursing Home in 1983, and resided there until her death.
She enjoyed watching television and had a fondness for Bob Barker, who she once talked to on the telephone. She also enjoyed children, horses and music.
Survivors include her mother of Cresbard; three sisters, Shirley Little of Aberdeen, and Laurietta Matheny and Jean Paul, both of Dell Rapids; and two brothers, Steve Fey of Aberdeen, and Bob Fey of Aurora.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Casketbearers will be Les Little, Verne Little, Lon Fey, Greg Matheny, Shane Paul, Cory Paul, Casey Fey and Rob Fey.
