Elizabeth 'Beth' Dougall
Isabel -- The funeral for Elizabeth Irene 'Beth' Dougall, 85, of Isabel will be at 2 p.m. MDT Thursday at United Church of Christ in Isabel. The Rev. Young Min Park will officiate.
Burial will be in the Hillsview Cemetery in Isabel with Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from noon until the time of the service Thursday at the church.
She died Monday, April 2, 2001, at the Beverly Healthcare Center in Mobridge.
Leonard Umiker
Gettysburg -- The funeral for Leonard Umiker, 90, of Gettysburg will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Gettysburg. The Rev. Kevin Moore will officiate.
Burial will be in the Gettysburg Cemetery with Luce Funeral Home in Gettysburg in charge of arrangements.
A prayer service will be at 7:30 tonight at the funeral home.
He died Monday, April 2, 2001, at Mary House in Pierre.
Leonard Erwin Umiker was born Dec. 15, 1910, to John and Emilie (Litkea) Umiker in Lebanon. The family lived in Lebanon. In 1913, they moved to a farm east of Lebanon and then to a farm south of Lebanon. He attended school in Lebanon for three years before attending the Roy rural school. He graduated from eighth grade in 1925. He worked on the Jonathon Hottman farm east of Lebanon and for the Art Keller farm south of Tolstoy near the Springs community in the 1920s and 1930s. He also spent a couple of winters near Lisbon, Wis., where he worked on a dairy farm and cut wood.
He married Edna Myrtle Griese on June 24, 1937. They moved to the Joe Breene farm, where they farmed for five years. In March 1943, they purchased the Tom Mikkelson farm east of Gettysburg in Cunningham Township, where they lived for 55 years. He raised Red Duric hogs and Hereford Angus and Black Baldy cows from the 1940s to 1976. He also raised corn, wheat, oats and barley, and did custom corn shelling for area farmers in the 1960s. He entered the Mary House Nursing Home in Pierre in January 1998, where he lived until the time of his death. She died July 3, 1999.
He was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Lebanon, where he served in various offices. He transferred to Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Gettysburg in 1960. He was a member of the Medicine Rock Senior Citizens Center.
He enjoyed watching television, reading newspapers and farm magazines, singing hymns and gardening. He also enjoyed fixing things, eating German foods, fishing, playing cards and attending auctions.
Survivors include one daughter, Irene (Arden) Stave of Pierpont; one son, Glenn Umiker of Gettysburg; one sister, Berniece Frost of Hoven; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sisters and one brother.
Signe Hoines
Britton -- The funeral for Signe Hoines, 82, of Britton will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church in Britton. The Rev. Carl Hansen will officiate.
Price Funeral Chapel in Britton is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at the funeral chapel and for one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
She died Monday, April 2, 2001, at the Marshall County Healthcare Center in Britton.
Signe Caroline Stave was born May 5, 1918, to Louis T. and Anna Josephine (Stangeland) Stave on the family farm near Hammer. She grew up there and attended rural Roberts County schools. She graduated from New Effington High School.
She married Merlin A. Hoines on Dec. 26, 1938. For their first four years of marriage, they farmed on the Hoines family farm. In October 1942, they moved to a farm near Hammer, where they lived for three years. Then they moved to a farm near Claire City and later into Sisseton. In July 1947, they moved to one of the Thorp Ranches near Britton, where they lived until moving into Britton in 1955. She worked at Abbas Variety Store for four years. She later worked as an aide at the hospital in Britton. She became a ward clerk in 1966. She retired in the mid-1980s after 20 years of service to the hospital. She also worked as an Avon lady in Britton for more than 20 years. He died Jan. 24, 2000, and she continued to make her home in Britton. She entered Spruce Court Assisted Living Center in October 2000 and was a resident there at the time of her death.
She belonged to various Lutheran churches while they lived on different farms. After moving to Britton, she became a member of First Lutheran Church. She was active in the Women of Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and one of the church circles. She was a member of one of the Marshall County Extension clubs and the hospital auxiliary. She also had been a volunteer at the Marshall Manor (now Wheatcrest Hills) for several years.
Survivors include one daughter, JoAnn (Charles) Fiala of Council Bluffs, Iowa; two sons, Wayne (Carol) Hoines of Lake City and Robert (Barbara) Hoines of Brookings; two brothers, Bennie Stave of Fremont, Neb., and Donald Stave of Bentonville, Ark.; three sisters, Agnes Haaland of Fargo, N.D., Lucille Albers of Garrison, N.D., and Joyce Muth of Britton; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one infant son, one brother and one sister.
Casketbearers will be Steven Hoines, Richard Chapin, David Hoines, Richard Haaland, Jason Marx and Chuck Muth.

Johanna Koenig
Mobridge -- The funeral for Johanna Koenig, 83, of Mobridge will be at 11 a.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mobridge. The Rev. Dennis Fonkert will officiate.
Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Mobridge with Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.
She died Saturday, March 31, 2001, at the Mobridge Regional Hospital.
Johanna Schulz was born Aug. 29, 1917, to Johannes and Katherine (Keller) Schulz in Fredonia, N.D. In October 1917, the family moved to a farm 11 miles northeast of McLaughlin. She attended the Little Hertel School. After graduating from the eighth grade, she went to work for farm families in the area, cooking for them and caring for their children.
She married Albert Koenig on Oct. 21, 1936, near McLaughlin. In July 1937, they moved to Yakima, Wash., where he worked on an irrigation project. Three years later, they returned to farming near McLaughlin. Two years later, they moved to Bremerton, Wash., where he worked on housing construction. In 1944, they moved back to McLaughlin and eventually purchased a farm 11 1/2 miles northeast of town. They later moved to Anaconda, Mont., where he went to work for the Anaconda Copper Company, and she worked in an institution for children. She later worked in an institution for adults. After an injury there, she was forced to quit. They moved to Mobridge to retire. After he died in 1984, she moved to the River Ridge Apartments in Mobridge.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Joy Circle.
She was known for her cooking. She enjoyed gardening and canning. She also enjoyed playing bingo and Blitz.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth J. Koenig of New Milford, Conn., and Howard H. Koenig of Pensacola, Fla.; two daughters, Ethel (Alphone) VeerKamp of Cannon Falls, Minn., and Florence M. 'Flo' Walker of Selby; one brother, Rudy Schulz of Mobridge; one sister, Edna Hach of McLaughlin; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, her husband, eight brothers and one sister.
Casketbearers will be Zane Schulz, Jerry Schulz, Bob Hollenbeck, Jack Walth, Lornie Hach and Dick Hach.
Dale Shaw
Aberdeen -- The funeral for Dale Shaw, 76, of Aberdeen will be at 1 p.m. today in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1620 Milwaukee Ave. The Rev. Allan Schoonover will officiate.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 8 to 11 a.m. today at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
He died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital.
Dale R. Shaw was born July 29, 1924, to Raymond and Ina (Heller) Shaw in Monroe, Iowa. He was raised and attended school in Aberdeen, and he graduated from Aberdeen Central High School. He then joined the U.S. Army.
He returned to the area and married Doris Smalley on May 23, 1959, in Aberdeen. They then moved to Williston, N.D. She died in 1980. He returned to Aberdeen, where he worked for Cenex as a truck driver and warehouse worker.
He married Margaret Krieger on Dec. 13, 1989, in Clanton, Ala. They returned to the home he owned in Aberdeen. He volunteered for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. They traveled until his health declined.
He was a member of the Senior Center and the R.S.V.P. He was also a past member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Aberdeen Area Gun Club.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing pool and cards and driving.
Survivors include his wife of Aberdeen; one daughter, June (Robert W.) Bean of Randolph, Ala.; one sister, Betty Busch of Chokio, Minn.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and one brother.
Casketbearers will be Allan Shaw, Jamie Shaw, Danny Shaw, Jerry Bohling and Ron Bonn.
Leland Gale Stange
Aberdeen -- Leland Gale Stange, 59, of Aberdeen died of natural causes Monday, April 2, 2001, at his residence.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1620 Milwaukee Ave. The Rev. Allan Schoonover will officiate.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens with military rites by Stratford Post No. 207. Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., is in charge of arrangements.
A public prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the family present at 6 p.m. There will also be visitation for one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
May Hardcastle
Mobridge -- The funeral for May Hardcastle, 89, of Mobridge will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the United Congregational Church in Mobridge. The Rev. Keith Kraft will officiate.
Burial will be in the Mobridge City Cemetery with Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge in charge of arrangements.
A prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. Thursday until the conclusion of the prayer service at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
She died Saturday, March 31, 2001, at the Beverly Healthcare Center in Mobridge.
May Eva Hardcastle was born Feb. 26, 1912, to John Edwin and Lenora Ella (Bowser) Hardcastle in Mobridge. This is where she grew up and attended school. She graduated from Mobridge High School in 1930. She then worked for JC Penney in Mobridge and retired after 45 years. She lived in Mobridge all of her life. On March 2, 2001, she moved into the Beverly Healthcare Center.
She was a member of the United Church of Christ, Degree of Honor Society, Mobridge Senior Citizens and Hobby Club.
She was known for her willingness to help others, and for her fudge, divinity and cakes. She also enjoyed making family dinners in her home and was proud of her garden.
Survivors include two brothers, William Hardcastle of Mobridge and Morris Hardcastle of Seattle; and one sister, Betty Haefner of Rapid City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and three sisters.
Casketbearers will be Jon Hardcastle, Tom Hardcastle, Bill Hardcastle Jr., Casey Fischer, Brian Lindeman and Bobb Haefner.
