Survivors include daughters, Charlotte Heaton of Louisville, Ky., Joyce Manis of Lenoir City; son, Terry Baker of Maryville; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Barbara Bernice Johnson Baker, age 76, of 1622 Amerine Road, Maryville, died at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1998 at Farragut Health Care Center, Knoxville.

MICHAELS, JAMES ARTHUR, 70, of Maryville, died Wednesday, Nov. 25, at Blount Memorial Hospital. - 11/27/98
Survivors include: wife, Betty J. Michaels; daughters, Gwendolyn Blair, Misty Anderson and Sandra Wilson, all of Maryville; son, Roger Best of Maryville; nine grandchildren; brother, Raymond Michaels of Friendsville; sister, Wanda Chasteen of Friendsville.

Hershel Joseph Buchanan, age 87, of Townsend, died at 8:30 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998 at Colonial Hills Nursing Home.

AUSTIN CHRISTOPHER JR. - 11/20/98
Austin Christopher Jr., age 71, of Walland, died at 8:20 p.m., Wednesday, November 18, 1998 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a member and deacon of East Walland Baptist Church, a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of the Blount County Quarterly Court in the late 1960s. He retired from ALCOA and was a member of their 25-Year Club. He was preceded in death by father, Austin Christopher Sr.; mother, Martha Ogle Christopher; sister, Aileen Brock; brother, Jack Christopher
Survivors include wife, Ruth Hatcher Christopher; son, David; daughter, Linda Kay Baker of Maryville; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brothers, Ralph of Maryville and Lawrence of Florida; sisters, Ruth Blevins of Maryville and Elizabeth Cosby of Florida.

James Thadious Dougherty, age 75 of Greenback, passed away Sunday evening, November 15, 1998 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville. Veteran of the U.S. Army having served during WWII. preceded in death by sister, Judy Dougherty; brother, Howard Dougherty.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will announced by Miller Funeral Home.

Viola S. Lunsford, age 84, of Louisville died at 9:15 a.m. Monday, November 16, 1998 at home. She was a member of Turtletown Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by: husband, Horace C. Lunsford and parents, Richard Spurling and Mary Moppings Spurling. Survivors: son and daughter-in-law, J.C. & Gladys Faye Lunsford of North Carolina; daughters and sons-in-law, W. Kay & Johnnie Kennith Adams and Judith & Richard Mclemore, all of Louisville; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild; brother, Richard Spurling of Montgomery, AL; sister, Lola Duggan of Turtletown, TN; sisters and brothers-in-law, Juanita & Charles Farner of Maryville and Buna & Charles Phillips of Newport News, VA; a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services are at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 18, 1998 in the Trinity Chapel of Smith Mortuary with the Rev. Lucille Potter Vickers and the Rev. Greg Williamson officiating. Family & friends will assemble at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 19, 1998 at Sherwood Memorial Gardens for the interment. Family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 18, 1998 in the Trinity Chapel. Smith Mortuary, Maryville, 983-1000

ALEXANDER, KATHERYN ADALINE FULLWOOD, 88, of Rockford, died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999 at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center.

Raymond W. Baumgardner, age 74, of Maryville died at 12:45 a.m., Saturday, November 14, 1998 at Fairpark Nursing Center. He served as a Seaman First Class in the United States Navy aboard the USS Richard W. Suewens 342 where he received a World War II Victory Medal, American Area Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and two Bronze Stars

Lora Mae Lowery, a native of Polk County, Tenn., departed this life November 11, 1998, at the age of 81. She joined church at an early age in Polk Co., Tenn. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Clyde and Nyn Benton; brothers, Floyd, William; sisters, Clydie Ruth Noland, Uolus Joyce Waters; infant sons, Clifford Lewis, Glenn Albert.

Mary Ellen Dockery Hubbard, age 90, of Maryville, passed away Wednesday morning, November 11, 1998 at Colonial Hills Nursing Center. preceded in death by sons, Edward and Roy Hubbard.

Edica Feezell Bright, age 86, of Maryville, died at 9:38 p.m. Friday, November 6, 1998, at Fairpark Healthcare Center. She was a member of Friendsville United Methodist Church. preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Bright.

Anna Louise Davis, age 73, of Maryville, died Thursday, November 5, 1998, at East Tennessee Baptist Hospital. She was retired from BellSouth with 32 years of service, was an avid bowler, and was a member of the Monday Morning Coffee League where she was past president.

Eva Dee French Albright, age 76, of Friendsville, passed away Tuesday, November 3, 1998.

Hazel Ruby Denton Chasteen, age 86, of Maryville died at 10:42 p.m. Monday, November 2, 1998 at her home. She was a member of Lone Oak Baptist Church.

John Echard Cutshaw, age 93 of Maryville died early Monday morning, Feb. 1, 1999 at his home. He was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church and a Mason. He was a former Blount County School Board Member and operated Cutshaw Grocery Store for many years.

Clarence Leonard Baker, age 73 of Greenback, died at 3:43 a.m. Friday, Jan. 29, 1999 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Army where he served in World War II. He retired from Scruggs Restaurant Equipment. preceded in death by: parents, Clifford and Rena Baker; two brothers; five sisters.

Lloyd Baumgardner, age 87 of Maryville died at 2:06 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999 at the family home. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he served in World War II in the European Theater. He retired from Sears and Roebuck with over 20 years of service.

David H. Banks, age 41, of Knoxville, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1999, at his home.

Edward Claiborne, age 76 of Maryville died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999 at Fort Sanders Medical Center.

BEASLEY, RICK, 51, of Louisville, died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999, at his home.

GILLESPIE, VIOLA HURST, 95, of Maryville died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at Colonial Hills Nursing Center.

Mary Ethel Hembree, age 75 of Walland died at 1:47 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999 at Blount Memorial Hospital.

BAKER, WANDA COLLINS, 71, of Johnson City, died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at her home.

John Clarence Copeland, age 96, died at his home in Maryville on Sunday morning, Jan. 24, 1999. Born June 28, 1902, in Alpine, Tennessee, John Clarence Copeland graduated from the Alpine Academy, received his undergraduate degree from Tennessee Polytechnic University in Cookeville, Tennessee, and earned a masters degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Before entering the U.S. Army in 1942 where he served in North Africa throughout World War II, he taught business administration at Elizabethton High School in Elizabethton, Tennessee. Following his discharge at the end of World War II, he taught business administration at Carson Newman College in Jefferson City, Tennessee. He later joined the Internal Revenue Service, from which he retired after twenty-five years of service.

He was a retired Blount county schoolteacher.

GARRETT, BIRCH HARRISON, 53, of Maryville, died Wednesday morning, Jan. 20, 1999, at Colonial Hills Nursing Center. He was an employee of Blaine Walker's Garbage Service.

Homer William Flanagan, age 87, of Friendsville, passed away Tuesday morning, Jan. 19, 1999 at Blount Memorial Hospital.

Virginia Burchfield DeLozier, age 68, of Maryville, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999 at Blount Memorial Hospital.

EVANS, ETHEL FRANCES, 87, of Greenback, died 2 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999, at her home.

DeLOZIER, VIRGINIA BURCHFIELD, 68, of Maryville, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, at Blount Memorial Hospital.

Ralph H. 'Goob' Brown, age 83, of Friendsville, died at 6:20 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999 at Blount Memorial Hospital.

Carl A. Bradford of Louisville, Tenn., passed away Monday, January 11, 1999, at UT Memorial Hospital.
