Austin Christopher Jr., age 71, of Walland, died at 8:20 p.m., Wednesday, November 18, 1998 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a member and deacon of East Walland Baptist Church, a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of the Blount County Quarterly Court in the late 1960s. He retired from ALCOA and was a member of their 25-Year Club. He served as a Seaman First Class in the United States Navy aboard the USS Richard W. Suewens 342 where he received a World War II Victory Medal, American Area Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and two Bronze Stars
Lora Mae Lowery, a native of Polk County, Tenn., departed this life November 11, 1998, at the age of 81. She joined church at an early age in Polk Co., Tenn. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Clyde and Nyn Benton; brothers, Floyd, William; sisters, Clydie Ruth Noland, Uolus Joyce Waters; infant sons, Clifford Lewis, Glenn Albert.

John Echard Cutshaw, age 93 of Maryville died early Monday morning, Feb. 1, 1999 at his home. He was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church and a Mason. He was a former Blount County School Board Member and operated Cutshaw Grocery Store for many years.
Clarence Leonard Baker, age 73 of Greenback, died at 3:43 a.m. Friday, Jan. 29, 1999 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Army where he served in World War II. He retired from Scruggs Restaurant Equipment. preceded in death by: parents, Clifford and Rena Baker; two brothers; five sisters.
Lloyd Baumgardner, age 87 of Maryville died at 2:06 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999 at the family home. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he served in World War II in the European Theater. He retired from Sears and Roebuck with over 20 years of service.

John Clarence Copeland, age 96, died at his home in Maryville on Sunday morning, Jan. 24, 1999. Born June 28, 1902, in Alpine, Tennessee, John Clarence Copeland graduated from the Alpine Academy, received his undergraduate degree from Tennessee Polytechnic University in Cookeville, Tennessee, and earned a masters degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Before entering the U.S. Army in 1942 where he served in North Africa throughout World War II, he taught business administration at Elizabethton High School in Elizabethton, Tennessee. Following his discharge at the end of World War II, he taught business administration at Carson Newman College in Jefferson City, Tennessee. He later joined the Internal Revenue Service, from which he retired after twenty-five years of service.
