Member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Survivors: a daughter and her family; sisters, Neoma Hunt of Maryville, Cora Miller of Vonore, Mae Black of Greenback, Burline Dils of Batavia, OH, Eula Mattox and Effie Mae Brewster, both of Madisonville; brother, Odis West of Knoxville; many nieces & nephews.

EDWARD JOSEPH LYONS
Edward Joseph Lyons, age 87, of Maryville passed away Friday morning, March 26, 2004 at the family home. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, veteran of the US Army having served during World War II. He is SURVIVED by his wife, Doris Lyons; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Janice Lyons of Florida; daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Frank Harless of Maryville; grandchildren, Sheryl Householder, Pamela Gross, Michael Lyons, Scott Lyons; great-grandchildren, Keegan, Keeley, and Bryson; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 28, 2004 at Miller Funeral Home Magnolia Chapel, Father Alex Waraksa officiating. Family and friends will meet at the Tennessee State Veteran's cemetery in Knoxville at 1:30 p.m. Monday for the interment service with military honors provided by the Volunteer State Veteran's Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.

THOMAS F. MAYNARD
Thomas F. Maynard, age 81 of Alcoa died Saturday, March 27, 2004 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. He was a member of the 1st Apostolic Church, former member of Broadway Baptist Church. He was also a Veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II. preceded in death by: Daughter, Lynn Thompson. Survivors include: Wife, Betty Maynard; Son and Daughter-in-law, Roger & Angelica Bennett of Maryville; Son-in-law, Mike Thompson; Daughters, Jennifer Coolidge of Port Orange, FL, Robin & husband Mike Cameron of Knoxville, Rhonda Bennett of Maryville, Penny & husband Rev. Kenneth Carpenter of Maryville; 14 Grandchildren; 10 Great-Grandchildren; 1 Great-Great-Grandchild; Audrey Maynard of Port Orange, FL; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be at 8:00 PM, Monday, March 29, 2004 at 1st Apostolic Church with Rev. Kenneth Carpenter and Rev. Chad Erickson officiating. Survivors include nieces, Effie Kirkland of Madisonville, Pat Green of Smyrna, TN., Tina Huey of Tellico Plains, Tammy Pesterfield of Maryville and nephew, Matthew Green of Lavergne, TN. Funeral service 8:00 p.m. Sunday, March 28, 2004 at Miller Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Charles Bryan officiating. Interment 10:00 a.m. Monday at Clark's Grove Cemetery. WANDA `AILEEN' KIRKLAND TIPTON
Wanda 'Aileen' Kirkland Tipton, age 68 of Maryville died Friday, March 26, 2004, at Maryville Healthcare Center. She attended Friendship Baptist Church. She was a well known Caterer throughout East Tennessee. preceded in death by: husband, Murphy Lee Tipton; mother and father, Walter and Minnie Kirkland; brothers, Ralph and Howard Kirkland. Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Kim Tipton of Friendsville; daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Bill Vaughn of Knoxville and Tricia and Bill Fogarty of Knoxville; grandchildren, Donald Pendley Jr., Derrick Pendley, Brooke Fogarty, Austin Fogarty, Brandon McBee; great-grandchildren, Haven Pendley and Zachary Pendley; brothers, Roy Lee Kirkland, John Kirkland, Clyde Ray Kirkland; sisters, Jean Ogle, Nanny Ethel Watkins, Louise Click, Mary Ann Whaley. HERBERT TYRONE `HUB' HENRY
Herbert Tyrone (Hub) Henry of 133 W. Newcomen St. Alcoa passed away Wednesday, March 24, at UT Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Henry; brother, Noble Henry; and two aunts, Lucille Sudderth and Janette Garner.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Deborah; two children, Anthone and Kashira; devoted mother and father, Candice and Leroy Scott; brother, Leroy Buchanan of Rockford, TN; sisters, Cookie Buchanan of Greenville, SC, Elacy Buchanan of Detroit, MI; aunts and uncles, Eldora (Thomas) Brazel and Roosevelt Buchanan of Alcoa, Bessie Robertson of Syracuse, NY, John (Joann) Townsend, Rockford, Laurinda (William) Hamilton of Knoxville, Brenda Williams, Atlanta, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Kevin, Latonya Revels; mother and father-in-law, Jackie Revels, Alcoa and Auther Revels of Knoxville; special nephew, Robert (Marissa) Petty; special niece, Tyneisha Revels; special cousins, Felicia Morgan, Joann Ditumble of Syracuse, NY; and special sister and brother, Michael (Christen) and Michelle Colquitt; special pastor and friends, Bro. J.C. HUGHES
Mr. J.C. Hughes, age 58, of Field Crest Lane, Maryville, TN formerly of Rockwood, TN passed away Thursday, March 25, 2004 in the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Mr. Hughes was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Ten Mile; a laborer with BNFL K-25 and a member of Labor Union Local # 818. He loved to watch his son, airplane pilot Capt. Ted Hughes fly Planes. Mr. Hughes was preceded in death by his father, Claude Hughes; sister, Dorothy Hughes; nephew, Jo Jo Hughes; and brother-in-law, Lester Shadden.
He is survived by: wife, Judy Hughes of Maryville, TN; son, Ted Hughes of Maryville, TN; mother, Mildred Hughes of Ten Mile, TN; sister, Jo Ann Miller & husband, Phillip of Spring City, TN; brothers, Nathan Hughes & wife, Jane of Decatur, TN, Larry Hughes & wife, Karen of Ten Mile, TN, Wayne Hughes & wife, Pam of Ten Mile, TN; mother-in-law, Marie Threlkeld of Knoxville, TN; sisters-in-law, Jo Ann Miller of Knoxville, TN, Helen Shadden of Las Vegas, NV, Brenda Peppers of Winder, GA; brother-in-law, Bud Threlkeld of Pensacola, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 28, 2004 at 5:00 P.M. from the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Ten Mile with Rev. Bob Ivey officiating. Graveside services and interment will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, The family will receive friends Saturday, March 27, from 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at the Evans Mortuary.

BRICE L. BAKER
Brice L. Baker, age 92 of Maryville, died suddenly of cardiac arrest Sunday, March 21, 2004. He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran serving in the North Atlantic. He was a long time member of the Maryville Lions Club, an active supporter of the University of Tennessee athletics and the Tennessee Titans. He retired from Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. He was born in Hampton, TN in Carter County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Baker and Pearl Markland Baker. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Marie Harrison Baker; sons, Jerry Baker of Maryville and Gordon Baker of Friendsville; 3 granddaughters, Julie Shriver of Knoxville, Beth Miller of Maryville and Emily Baker of Maryville; brother, Joe Baker of Maryville. Family and friends will assemble at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at Grandview Mausoleum Chapel for graveside service and interment. Smith Mortuary, Maryville in charge of arrangements, 865-983-1000.

INEZ ELIZABETH BURNS
Inez Elizabeth Burns, age 96 of Maryville passed away Sunday, March 21, 2004 at Blount Memorial Hospital. Miss Burns was a member of New Providence Presbyterian Church. She was the county historian and a long time educator who was instrumental in the recognition of Sam Houston School House and Fort Loudon. She was a member of the County, State, and National Education Associations; D.A.R.; Tennessee, East Tennessee, Blount County and Smoky Mountain Historical Societies. preceded in death by parents, John Gamble and Nancy Brickey Burns; brothers, Herbert V. Burns, Ralph Burns, John Theodore Burns; sisters, Flora Headrick and Edith Burns Little. Survivors include nieces and nephews, Gerald and Sherry Burns and children, Steven, Kenneth, and Bonnie Lachowicz, Ralph and Ann Burns and daughter Kathryn Black, John T. Burns, William Fredrick "Rick" Burns, David L. Burns, Jane Burns Firestone; numerous great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at Smith Mortuary with Interment to follow at Brickey Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Smtih Mortuary, 865-983-1000.

WILBUR D. CONNER
Wilbur D. Conner, age 84, of Maryville, departed this life, Saturday, March 20, 2004, at his home. He was preceded in death by his sons, W.C. Conner and Thomas Conner. He was a veteran of World War II and Korea.
Survivors include: wife, Edith R. Conner; sons, Ronnie Conner, David and Rhonda Conner, Rick Morse and Eddie and Rhonda Bales; daughters, Connie Riddle, Betty Hall, Celia and Randy McKee, Donna and Danny Curtis, Karen and Danny Bounds, Teresa and David Latham; 36 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren; special friends Howard Cummings, Kenny Hurst and Bill Parks.
Family and friends will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Old Piney Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Elmer Webb officiating. Friends may call at their convenience at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, .

SARAH ELIZABETH DIXON GILBERT
Sarah Elizabeth Dixon Gilbert went to be with the Lord March 18, 2004. Born March 24, 1942. preceded in death by father, Otis Dixon; mother, Phrona Simerly; son, Ronnie Gilbert Jr.
Survived by beloved husband of 44 years, Ronnie Gilbert Sr. of Big Sandy TN; daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Bill Campbell of Maryville, TN; daughter, Mary Schaafsma of New Jersey; son and daughter-in-law, James and Angie Gilbert; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers, John C. Dixon; Cecil Dixon, William T. Dixon; sisters, Beulah Damron and Donna Nelson; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Ruth Breeden of Maryville and Angie Burke of Big Sandy.
According to her wishes, Sarah was cremated. Donations may be made to the Cancer Society in remembrance of Sarah.
Stockdale-Malin Funeral Home, Big Sandy, is in charge of arrangements.

Kamau Amiri Johnson passed away Sunday morning at UT Medical Center.
Preceded in death by brother and sister Kenin and Kenya Johnson, grandparents Bill Middleton, Helen Ruth Robinson, Sherman (Sadie) Johnson, Mr. Louis Bradley and Mrs. Ruby Clegg.
Survivors include: parents, Kenyon Quanoel Johnson and Bridgetta Nicole Middleton; grandparents, Karen Y. Johnson and Ronald E. Robinson of Flint, MI, Douglas E. Middleton, Jewel Robinson Chandler and Toletha M. Davis; great-grandparents, Tena Bradley, Rosetta Wasp of Flint, MI, Pauline Flowers of Rockford, TN, Christine (Richard) Burchfield of Maryville and Tommy (Francis) Davis of Knoxville; aunts, Deandra Robinson of Flint, MI, Jemeki Middleton of Knoxville and Tera (Shawn) Williams of Alcoa; uncles, Ja'vonn Johnson of Knoxville and T.J. RAYMOND F. MURPHY
Raymond F. Murphy, age 81 of Maryville, died Monday, March 22, 2004, at Asbury Acres Nursing Home. He was a lifelong resident of Blount County and a member of East Maryville Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ferman and Stella Murphy; sister, Irene Stevens; and nephew, Lynn Stevens. Survivors include his wife, Geraldine (Jerry) Murphy; and nephew, Harold Stevens. Graveside service and Interment will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, at Grandview cemetery with Rev. David Webster and Rev. Keith Johnson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to East Maryville Baptist Church Building Fund, 1150 Brown School Road, Maryville, TN 37804. Friends may call at their convenience after 9:00 a.m. Tuesday at Smith Mortuary, Maryville, 865-983-1000.

RALPH C. MURR
Ralph C. Murr, age 72 of Maryville, passed away Sunday, March 21, 2004 at U.T. Medical Center in Knoxville. He was a member of Village Baptist Church, retired from ALCOA and a member of the 25 year club. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean Conflict. preceded in death by parents, Howard and Ethel Cook Murr; sisters, Virginia Simerly and Charlotte Carden; brothers, James Murr and Earl Murr. Survivors include wife, Florence "Flossie" Murr; sons, Tony Murr and J.D. Murr both of Maryville; grandchildren, Kara and Ryan Murr; sisters, Lib Hatcher of Rockford, Eyvonne Myers of Maryville and Vivian Mead of California; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Barbara and Mike McVay of Maryville; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at Miller Funeral Home Magnolia Chapel, Rev. Gerald Smelcer officiating. Entombment 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Grandview Cemetery. Family will receive friends 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.
