MATTIE RUTH BURDINE
Mattie Ruth Burdine, age 84, of Knoxville, passed away on Monday, March 29, 2004, at 11:50 a.m. at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Knoxville and was retired from House-Hasson. preceded in death by parents, Wesley and Luvenie Burdine; sister, Marybelle Burdine; and brothers, Ben, Tim and John Burdine. She is survived by sisters-in-law, Mildred B. Tarwater of Rockford and Lucy M. Burdine of Michigan; several nieces, nephews and special friends. Friends may call at their convenience on Tuesday from 12 Noon until 8 p.m. at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway. Family and friends will meet at 11 a.m on Wednesday for graveside services at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church cemetery with her nephew, Rev. Chris Cupp officiating. MARGARET SELF `AUNTIE' COOPER
Margaret Self 'Auntie' Cooper, age 56 of Louisville passed away Sunday, March 28, 2004, at Baptist Transitional Care. She was a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, the wife of Pastor William 'Butch' Cooper, a devoted Christian, devoted to her husband, her son and her church. She served as a musician and Women's Sunday School Teacher at her church. Mrs. Cooper is preceded in death by brother, Garry Self. Survivors include, husband, William 'Butch' Cooper; son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Virginia Cooper of Friendsville; grandchildren, Megan Nicole, and one soon expected granddaughter; special niece and nephew, Dana Marie and Darren Lee Self; parents, Rev. Fred and Anna Mae Self of Maryville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry and Becky Self, Darrell and Michele Self all of Maryville; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Alvin and Georgia Cooper; sisters-in-law, Mrs. G.W. Tipton and Mrs. Samuel Moses; nieces, April Self and Amanda Johnson both of Greenback; nephew, Darrell L. Thomas; great nephew, Austin Johnson; several other beloved aunts, uncles, relatives and friends. Funeral service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2004, in the Trinity Chapel of Smith Mortuary with Dr. Clarence Sexton, Mike Goodsen, Aubrey Florence, Charles Lawson officiating. CLAUDE E. HICKS, JR.
Claude E. Hicks, Jr., age 61 of Maryville, passed away Sunday, March 28, 2004. He was the owner of Hicks and Law Insurance Company of Maryville, was a member of Friendsville First Baptist Church where he was active with the audio and video ministry and served on several committees. Mr. Hicks was originally from Niota before moving to Maryville, he graduated from McMinn County High School and attended Tenn Wesleyan College in Athens, TN. He was a member of the FOP and active with the Maryville High School football team.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude E. Hicks, Sr. and Violet Gilliam Hicks of Niota, TN.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara J. Hicks of Maryville; son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Kelly Jones; daughter, Denise Moore; grandson, Robby Moore all of Maryville; sister-in-law, Phyllis Compton of Friendsville; brother and sister-in-law, Sam and Karen Hicks of Cleveland, TN; nieces and spouses, Stacey and Ronnie Wilson of Charleston and Terri and Rick Heintzelman of Hazel Green, AL; nephews and spouses, Scott and Melody Hicks of East Ridge, Andrew and Samantha Hicks of Cleveland and Kevin Compton of Huntsville, AL; several great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Mark Grubb and Rev. Andrew Hicks officiating. The interment will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Grandview Cemetery.

Ruth Kagley Norwood, age 94 of Knoxville, passed away Saturday, March 27, 2004, at N.H.C. Fort Sanders.
Survivors include her son, Lloyd Norwood; sisters, Pearl Rudder, Jonnie Lewis and Mabel Mizell; brother, Lloyd Kagley; several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will meet at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Centenary cemetery for a graveside service with Dr. John Franklin officiating.

Elizabeth Roebuck, of Louisville, TN, went to her Heavenly Rest March 28, 2004. Preceded in homegoing by devoted husband of sixty years, Earl W. Roebuck; beloved grandson, David Scruggs; sister, Dorothy Scott; and devoted brother, Nathan Jones.
Remaining to cherish her memory, very devoted daughter, Jacqueline Scruggs; loving grandson, Juan (Pamela) Thompson all of Louisville; great-granddaughter, Ashley of Alcoa; brothers, Elmer (Sarah) Jones of Louisville, Alfred Jones of Maryville; sisters-in-law, Marion Valentine of Alcoa and Hatha Hatley of Maryville; loving nieces, Nadine (Charles) Nichols and Elaine Crenshaw of Knoxville, Donna Geter (Clarence) of Louisville; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to include her caregiver, Anna Bennett and all of her `Sunny Way' family. Jessie Smith, age 18 of Maryville, died Saturday, March 27, 2004, at Loudon County Medical Center. His life was taken suddenly as a result of a water craft accident. He was a senior at Heritage High School. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Herbert and Roberta Smith. Survivors include: father, Mark Smith, mother, Shara Smith; and brother, Adam Smith, all of Maryville; grandparents, Fran and Robert Long of Florida, Hank and Cheryl Schwietert of Washington; uncle and aunt, Mike and June Robenson and family of Powell; uncles, George Morales, of Florida, David Smith, Herby Smith, Bobby Smith, Mike Smith all of South Fla.; aunts, Sandy Gross, Jackie Smith, both of South Fla.; several loving cousins. MARY FRANCES TATUM
Mrs. Mary Frances Tatum, age 83 of Talking Rock, passed away Sunday evening, March 28, 2004, at her residence.
Surviving are the husband, Robert Buck Tatum, Talking Rock; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Sharon Tatum, Louisville, Tenn.; daughters and sons-in-law, Helen and Bob Dickerson, Stone Mountain, Teresa and Wayne Abernathy, Acworth, and Lynnette Whitley, Cumming; brothers, Charles Wright and Roy Wright, Ellijay; sisters, Reba Mashburn, Ellijay, and Betty Corben, Dalton; the grandchildren, Robert C. Tatum, Rhonda Tatum, and Brent Tatum.

L.W. `Woody' Brock, former heating firm owner, father of commissioner, dies
L.W. 'Woody' Brock, former co-owner of Colvin and Sons Heating and Air and father of Blount County Commissioner Keith Brock, died Saturday at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was 86.
Brock was co-owner of the Maryville heating and air business from 1946 until 1984. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, having served during World War II.
Brock was a well-known bowler, having been inducted into the Crest Lanes Bowling Hall of Fame. He was an avid golfer and former vice president of Maryville Little League.
Brock was a member of Alcoa Rotary International
Survivors include his wife, Pauline Colvin Brock; sons, Tracy Brock and Keith Brock, both of Maryville; five grandsons; a great-granddaughter; and a sister, Audrey Carmon of Knoxville.
Funeral service will be 8 tonight at Miller Funeral Home Magnolia Chapel. Entombment will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Sherwood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel. Family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.
MARY B. ANDERSON
Mary B. Anderson, age 93 of Maryville, passed away Sunday, March 28, 2004, at Colonial Hills Nursing Center. She was a member of First United of Madisonville and a long time supporter of the public library system having served at both local and regional board levels. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Anderson and granddaughter-in-law, Kathy Anderson.
She is survived by her son and wife, Townie and Jeannie Anderson; grandson, Chuck Anderson; grandson and wife, Joe and Mary Jane Anderson; great-grandsons, Joe-Joe Anderson and Reid Walker; cousin Hopie Mays; and dedicated caregivers, Linda Wade and Missy Kirkland.
Family and friends will meet 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at Grandview cemetery for a graveside service with the Rev. Mike Jackson officiating. The family will receive friends following at the cemetery.

James Curtis Crowder, age 53 of DeKalb, Georgia, passed away Friday, March 26, 2004 at DeKalb County Hospital. He was preceded in death by parents, J.E. and Margaret Crowder; grandparents, Lynn and Nora Kagley, Ott and Eva Crowder.
Survivors include: son, Paul Crowder of Florida; son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Mitzi Crowder of Knoxville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Nora and Charles Best, Elizabeth and Ben Best, all of Maryville; several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be 5:00 p.m. Monday, March 29, 2004, at New Providence Primitive Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenny Tucker officiating.

Romania Watson Leonard, age 91 of Maryville, formerly of Sweetwater, Tenn., passed away Saturday, March 27, 2004, at the family home. She was preceded in death by her husband; Thomas E.W. Leonard; parents, Allen and Lilly Watson; brothers, Willard, Winston, Milburn, and Delbert Watson; sister, Ona Lee Trotter.
Survivors include: sons and daughters-in-law, David "Dee" and Dorothy "Dot" Leonard, William "Bill" and Barbara Leonard, Walter "Dub" and Gailya Leonard, all of Maryville; sons, Troy D. Leonard of Maryville and Dwight Leonard of Walland; grandchildren, Sandy Beshore, Robin Leonard, Tommy Leonard, Teresa Beaty, Dena Hamblen, Tim Leonard, and Rhonda Morgan; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Jo Watson, Clifton and Jerri Watson, both of Sweetwater; sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Doyle Walton of Knoxville; sisters-in-law, Hazel and Leona Watson of Cleveland, and Mary E.
