Claude Wayland Jackson, 63, of Lenoir City, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003 at Loudon Hospital. He was retired custodian of Greenback High School and preceded in death by his father, Woodrow Jackson.
Survivors: wife, Norma Jean Smallen Jackson; son, Steven Jackson; daughters, Wanda Hensley and Debbie Salyers, Loudon; mother, Hazel Rollins Jackson, Maryville; brothers, Leonard Jackson, Greenback and Glen Jackson, Maryville; sister, Josephine Wolfe, Maryville; 4 grandsons, Cody Jackson, Keith Hensley, Travis Gardner and Tyler Finger all of Loudon; great-grandchildren, Kinsley Gardner and Ryan Gardner, Loudon.

LUTHER RAY LOUDERMILK, JR.
Luther Ray Loudermilk, Jr., age 73 of Maryville, died Saturday, September 13, 2003 at the home of his son. Mr. Loudermilk was a resident of Atwood, Tennessee for most of his life having recently moved to Maryville. He was of the Baptist faith and was retired from I.T.T. Telecommunications Co. with over 20 years of service. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Ray Sr., and Ada (Brown) Loudermilk; his brother and sister, Odie and Virgil Loudermilk.
He is survived by his wife, Lou Nell Loudermilk; sons and daughters-in-law, Phillip and Cindy Loudermilk of Maryville, Steve and Deborah Loudermilk of Humboldt, TN., Jeff and Crystal Loudermilk of Maryville, and Greg Loudermilk of Atwood, TN; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Velma Loudermilk of Williamsburg, Ky., Johnny and Sandy Loudermilk of Louisville, Ky., Robert and Gayrita Loudermilk of Louisville, Ky., and Don and Tena Loudermilk of Cincinnati, OH; sisters and brothers-in-law, Opal and Herbert Cox of Williamsburg, Ky., and Ruth Ann and Mark Emory of Raleigh, N.C.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 1:00 p.m., September 15, 2003 in the Trinity Chapel of Smith Mortuary with Rev. John Lowe and Jim Goode officiating. Eliza Dale Blankenship, age 69 of Maryville died Thursday, September 11, 2003 at Blount Memorial Hospital.
Preceded in death by: husband, Ellis Blankenship.

DR. J. VICTOR BROWN SR.
Dr. J. Victor Brown Sr., age 81, died September 10, 2003.
Preceded in death by his parents, John W. and Lorene Brown; sisters, Margaret Walker and Virginia Wright.
Survived by his wife of 59 years, Carolyn Granger Brown; sons, Vic (Sue) Brown, Tim (Mary) Brown of Nashville and Michael Granger Brown, Pendleton, OR; daughter, Susan (Mike) Junkins, of Clinton, Michigan; grandchildren, Leigh Wylie, Kathy Brim, Ashley Brown, Allison Brown, Andy Junkins, and Carrie Junkins; great-grandchildren, Will and Harris Brim, and Grant Junkins.
Dr. Brown was a graduate of Union University where he received a Honorary Doctorate Degree, and a Masters Degree from Southern Baptist Seminary, Louisville, Ky. Dr. Brown retired from Stewardship Commission of Southern Baptist Convention. He was a former pastor of West View Baptist Church, Cookeville, TN, Saturn Dr. Baptist Church, Nashville, TN, Broadway Baptist Church, Maryville, TN, Central Baptist Church, Martin, TN, First Baptist Church, Mt. Pleasant, TN and First Baptist Church, Cornersville, TN.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 13, 2003 at Saturn Drive Baptist Church, 1212 Saturn Dr., Nashville, with Rev. Joe Johnson, Rev. Joe Coleman, and Rev. Josie Tipton Hummel, age 93 of Knoxville, formerly of Alcoa and Chilhowee, passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2003. She was a member of Green Meadow United Methodist Church, a Graduate of Maryville College. She and her husband were owners and operators of Hummel General Store in Chilhowee. She was an Active Businesswoman of Blount County. She served on the Board of Directors of Blount National Bank of Maryville.
Preceded in death by: parents, Noah and Nancy Tipton; husband, Fred J. Hummel; three infant children; grandson, Marty Hummel; brothers, Dock, Harrison, Marion and Marvie Tipton; sisters, Harriett Watson, Samantha Everett, Mellie Whitehead and Laura Whitehead.

Mary Evelyn Curles, of Maryville died Wednesday, September 10, 2003 at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church and spent her life as a caregiver to those who were ill and needed care. preceded in death by: parents, Oscar and Nancy Hearon; 3 infant siblings; brother, Joel Hearon; sister, Lorene Penland.

Fred Grove Rogers, age 83, of Seymour, passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2003, at UT Hospital. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Seymour, and a veteran of the United States Navy having served in World War II. Retired employee of ALCOA and a member of the 25-year club. preceded in death by wife of 39 years, Katherine Louise Rogers; parents, William Victor and Ada Grove Rogers; and brother, Paul Rogers.

Billy Harvey Sparks, age 63 of Maryville died Wednesday, September 10, 2003 at his home. He was a member of Keeble's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church where he gave his soul to the Lord in 1997. He enjoyed attending church, gospel music and his church family. Allie M. Blair, age 101 of Walland, passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2003, at Fairpark Healthcare Center. She was a member of Walland Methodist Church and was preceded in death by her parents, Betty and William Cagle; stepsons, Marvin and Howard Blair; brothers, Fred Cagle, Charles Cagle, Earl Cagle and John Cagle; sisters, Catherine Cummings, Eva Blair, Bell Martin and Ruth Cook.

THOMAS TILDEN EVANS JR.
Thomas Tilden Evans Jr., age 66 of Maryville, passed away quietly at home on Sunday evening, September 7, 2003. He was a 1959 Alumnus of Maryville College and a lifetime patron of the Maryville College program of Fine Arts, especially the concert choir. He was a mainstay of the Historic College Hill Neighborhood Association in Maryville. Tom taught Literature for 26 years in the Oakland Public Schools in New Jersey. He was a member, the organist and the choir director at the Ponds Community Church in Oakland for 22 years. Having been extremely active for many years, he was most recently the Dean of the Knoxville Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. He had also been the organist at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection. Tom's love and passion for music and the arts permeated and energized his life. He retired to live in Maryville and served Maryville College as both the Administrative Director of MACCO and the Fine Arts Assistant for External Relations. In 1983, Tom was named to Who's Who in the East for achievements and significant contributions in his fields of endeavor. In March, 2003, he received the Maryville College "Distinguished Concert Choir Alumni Award." Tom was born in Miami, Florida and is survived by his sister, Ann Howard of Miami; brother, Nicholas Evans of Dallas, Georgia, and nephews, Darren, Nicholas, Jeffrey and Thomas.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Maryville College Concert Choir, The Orchestra at Maryville College or the Blount Memorial Hospice Mercy Fund, Maryville, TN 37804. One of Tom's favorite sayings and one he e-mailed as recently as last month is, "Life is good! Be grateful for everything ... family, friends, health, peace ... be thankful for goodness, kindness, and thrill in the glory of each season that we live with Him - both now and forever."
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 14, 2003, in the Fine Arts Hall at Maryville College.

Fred Grove Rogers, age 83, of Seymour, passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2003, at UT Hospital. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Seymour, and a veteran of the United States Navy having served in World War II. Retired employee of ALCOA and a member of the 25-year club.
