Memorial services for 'Joe' the deceased husband of Shirley Jones Warmack have been arranged for Saturday, July 12 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church on Tuckaleechee Trail, off of 321, with the Rev. Greg Long officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be sent to Community Action Agency, 3509 Tuckaleechee Pike, Maryville, TN 37803, where Shirley used to work and Joe donated time. We both know what a great organization it is to help all the needy people that they have funds for. God be with us. We will all miss Joe very much.

HYATT, JAMES KIMSEY, 77, Maryville, died Thursday, July 24, 2003, at Blount Memorial Hospital. REAGAN, LUCINDA SPURLING, 89, Seymour, died Friday, July 25, 2003. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. EARL WILLIAM BEST SR.
Earl William Best, Sr., age 87 of Maryville, passed away Friday, October 3, 2003. He was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church, he was a graduate of Everett High School and attended Maryville College, he retired from ALCOA in 1978 after 43 years of service, of which 3½ years were with ALCOA of Australia, and he was a member of the ALCOA 25 Year Service Club. Mr. Best was a longtime cattle farmer who was born and died on his beloved farm.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Adam Lee Best; parents, Warren D. and Ocia Rasar Best; brother and sister-in-law, Fermond and Hazel Best; sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Wiley Myers.
Survivors include his spouse, Ruth Barber Best; son and daughter-in-law, Earl William Jr. and Debra Dotson Best; grandson, Richard Earl Best; several nieces and nephews; special caring friend, Cookie Wald.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jerry Russell, Dr. Marvin Gass and Rev. Bob Souders officiating. Hilda Joyce Mabe Kirkland age 57 of Maryville, TN passed away Friday, October 3, 2003 at the family home. She was a member of Birchfield Baptist Church and was retired from Blount County Schools as a cook at Lanier Elementary School. preceded in death by father, Alvin Mabe, brothers, John and Billy Mabe and sister Ann Ruth Gentry.

CAPT. ALLAN AUGUSTUS TONEY
Capt. Allan Augustus Toney, age 60, of West Knoxville, went to be with the Lord October 2, 2003, as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident. Member of Episcopalian Church of Good Samaritan. Mr. Toney was a Captain in Knox County Sheriff's Department Reserves; employee of ORNL for nearly 30 years; recently retired from Tennessee 278th Armored Calvary Regiment Tn. Army National Guard with the rank of Sgt. First Class; Vietnam Veteran. He was a 32nd Degree Mason with the Cherokee Lodge; member of Kerbela Temple Shriners; PBA, FOP. preceded in death by parents Clarence and Vivian Toney.
Survivors include wife, Glenda Toney; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Murl O'Mary; son, Timothy Toney; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Deanna Toney; stepdaughter, Phoenicia and Stephanie Browning; grandchildren, Josh Toney, Rachel Wall, Kathleen O'Mary, Kylie Watson, Alexander Toney, Jessica O'Mary; great-grandchildren, Audri Farrell; sister, Bonnie Collis; and brother Daniel Toney.

DR. ARTHUR H. HAFNER JR.
Dr. Arthur H. Hafner, Jr., formerly of Maryville, age 86, died Monday, September 29th, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on September 9, 1917, in Altoona, Pennsylvania, to the late Arthur H. Hafner and Agnes Taylor Hafner, and was raised in St. Johnsbury, Vermont. After receiving his Doctor of Education degree from Columbia University, he served as a professor of teacher education in Texas, Missouri, Tennessee, and Kentucky. He was formerly the Chairman of the Education Department at Maryville College, and while in Maryville was also active in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Maryville Kiwanis club, and with the Contact Helpline.
He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Arthur and Gail Hafner of Maryville; John and Marcy Hafner of Moab, Utah; Paul and Paula Hafner of Newport, Rhode Island; and Carl and Brenda Hafner of San Antonio, Texas; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years Lucy Albert Hafner; infant son James T. Hafner; and siblings Nancy Dunn, Carolyn Sullivan, and Amos Hafner.
A memorial service will be held in San Antonio, followed by burial at a future date at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Plainfield Township, Pennsylvania. Memorials may be made to Sisters Care of San Antonio; 1946 La Manda Blvd., San Antonio, Texas 78201. Sisters Care is a non-profit ministry that provides personal care to the elderly.

Charles LeRoy Nichols, age 89 of Louisville died Thursday, October 2, 2003 at Blount Memorial Hospital. preceded in death by: Wife, Hazel Fern Nichols; Son, James Nichols; Parents, Jakcob R. Nichols and Pearl Beebe Nichols; Daughter, Deana Marie Castetter; Brothers, George Nichols and Edward Nichols; Sisters, Florence Ealy, Phillis McKenly, Jesse Cox and Nellie Gammer.
