Memorial services for 'Joe' the deceased husband of Shirley Jones Warmack have been arranged for Saturday, July 12 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church on Tuckaleechee Trail, off of 321, with the Rev. Greg Long officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be sent to Community Action Agency, 3509 Tuckaleechee Pike, Maryville, TN 37803, where Shirley used to work and Joe donated time. We both know what a great organization it is to help all the needy people that they have funds for. God be with us. We will all miss Joe very much.

CARREL ALLEN WILKERSON
Carrel Allen Wilkerson, age 53 of Houston, Texas passed away June 24, 2003. preceded in death by parents, Earl J. and Edna N. Eldridge Wilkerson.

DURDEN, WALTER F., Maryville, died Friday, July 25, 2003. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Smith Mortuary.

HYATT, JAMES KIMSEY, 77, Maryville, died Thursday, July 24, 2003, at Blount Memorial Hospital. Family and friends will meet at 2 p.m. today at Sherwood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum for entombment service, with full military honors conducted by the Tennessee Volunteer Honor Guard. Arrangements by Memorial Funeral Home.

MIZE, SR., RAYMOND L., died Thursday, July 24, 2003, at his home in Knoxville. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Foothills Funeral Home.

REAGAN, LUCINDA SPURLING, 89, Seymour, died Friday, July 25, 2003. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. Interment will follow in Headrick's Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

EARL WILLIAM BEST SR.
Earl William Best, Sr., age 87 of Maryville, passed away Friday, October 3, 2003. He was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church, he was a graduate of Everett High School and attended Maryville College, he retired from ALCOA in 1978 after 43 years of service, of which 3½ years were with ALCOA of Australia, and he was a member of the ALCOA 25 Year Service Club. Mr. Best was a longtime cattle farmer who was born and died on his beloved farm.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Adam Lee Best; parents, Warren D. and Ocia Rasar Best; brother and sister-in-law, Fermond and Hazel Best; sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Wiley Myers.
Survivors include his spouse, Ruth Barber Best; son and daughter-in-law, Earl William Jr. and Debra Dotson Best; grandson, Richard Earl Best; several nieces and nephews; special caring friend, Cookie Wald.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jerry Russell, Dr. Marvin Gass and Rev. Bob Souders officiating. The interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2:30 p.m. Sunday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville. Kevin Dwayne Carver, age 37, of 612 County Farm Rd., Madisonville, formerly of Sevierville, passed away Thursday, October 2, 2003 at his home. Of the Baptist faith.
Survivors: wife, Virginia Stakely Gardner; son, Cory Gardner of Madisonville; mother, Helen Sutton Cooper; father & stepmother, James & Linda Carver of Sevierville; grandmother, Anna Mae Carver of Sevierville; brothers, Tony Carver of Vonore; Ricky Carver & Tim Carver, both of Sevierville; nephew, Nathan Carver of Maryville; father-in-law & mother-in-law, Bennett & Mildred Stakely of Madisonville. preceded in death by grandparents, Curtis R. & Martha Sutton, Lonzo Carver.

Lona L. (Whitehead) Gardner, age 82 of Maryville, died Thursday, October 2, 2003 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. She was a member of New Providence Primitive Baptist Church. preceded in death by: Parents, Walter and Florence Whitehead; Sisters, Carrie M. Whitehead, Oma R. Whitehead, Elmina Self; Brothers, Lewis Whitehead, Harvey Whitehead, B.C. Whitehead.
Survivors include: Husband of 60 years, Arthur F. Gardner; Son and Daughter-in-law, Robert D. & Shelia Gardner of Maryville; Daughter and Son-in-law, Virginia & Darrell Grindstaff of Maryville; Grandchildren, Teresa Copeland and husband David, Stacey Grindstaff and wife Leslie; Great-Grandchildren, Dustin & Meghan Copeland, Austin, Hayden and Nichole Grindstaff; Brother, Howard Whitehead of Maryville; Sister, Molly Buchanan of Maryville; Special Caregivers, Vicki Gibson, Shirley Dailey, Willie Mae Hannum, Hazel Reeder and Katherine Hubbard.

Mildred Wonell Hicks age 69 of Maryville, passed away Thursday, October 2, 2003 at the family home. preceded in death by parents, Edna Finchum Parrott and William Henry Parrott and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include husband, Charles James Hicks; daughters and sons in law, Dorothy and Jimmy Albright, Mildred Jean and David Fitzgerald, Aline and Tim Gribble all of Maryville, Mary Ann and Bill Nance of North Carolina; sons and daughters in law, James Henry and Cathy D. Hicks, Charles Thomas and Cathy L. Hicks all of Maryville; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sisters, Willie Kate Moser of Vonore, Estell Boring, Ruth Breeden, Shelby Boring, Deann Hatcher all of Maryville; brothers, Boyd Parrott, Ray Parrott and Jimmy Parrott all of Maryville; several nieces and nephews; special friend, Don McCammon of Louisville.

HILDA JOYCE MABE KIRKLAND
Hilda Joyce Mabe Kirkland age 57 of Maryville, TN passed away Friday, October 3, 2003 at the family home. She was a member of Birchfield Baptist Church and was retired from Blount County Schools as a cook at Lanier Elementary School. preceded in death by father, Alvin Mabe, brothers, John and Billy Mabe and sister Ann Ruth Gentry.
Survivors include husband of 38 years, Reed Kirkland; son, Scott Kirkland of Maryville, TN; daughters, Mona Lisa Myers of Maryville, TN, Cynthia Greene of Philadelphia, TN; grandchildren, Brittney, Tiffney and Frank Kirkland, Brandon Amburn, Justin Myers, Steven Evans, Taylor and Anna Greene; stepgrandson, Jeffery Icenberg; mother, Ethel Mabe of Cookeville, TN; brothers, Donald Mabe of Monore, TN, Gene Mabe of Rickmond, TN, Gary Mabe of Rickmond, TN, Junior Mabe of Allon, TN, Jerry Mabe of Cookeville, TN, Homer Mabe of Clinton, MI; special care givers, Jane Jackson, Pat Kirkland and Ruth Starnes.
Funeral service 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 6, 2003 at Lower Chilhowee Baptist Church, Rev. Leon Amburn, Rev. Mike Clore, Rev. Tyson Matoy and Rev. Arthur Ridge officiating. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.

CAPT. ALLAN AUGUSTUS TONEY
Capt. Allan Augustus Toney, age 60, of West Knoxville, went to be with the Lord October 2, 2003, as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident. Member of Episcopalian Church of Good Samaritan. Mr. Toney was a Captain in Knox County Sheriff's Department Reserves; employee of ORNL for nearly 30 years; recently retired from Tennessee 278th Armored Calvary Regiment Tn. Army National Guard with the rank of Sgt. First Class; Vietnam Veteran. He was a 32nd Degree Mason with the Cherokee Lodge; member of Kerbela Temple Shriners; PBA, FOP. preceded in death by parents Clarence and Vivian Toney.
Survivors include wife, Glenda Toney; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Murl O'Mary; son, Timothy Toney; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Deanna Toney; stepdaughter, Phoenicia and Stephanie Browning; grandchildren, Josh Toney, Rachel Wall, Kathleen O'Mary, Kylie Watson, Alexander Toney, Jessica O'Mary; great-grandchildren, Audri Farrell; sister, Bonnie Collis; and brother Daniel Toney.
Funeral services will be held Saturday 8:00 p.m. at Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel with Rev. Frank 'Buzz' Trexler officiating. Masonic memorial services will be held immediately following the funeral Saturday night. Family and friends will meet 12:30 p.m. Sunday and go in procession to Lynnhurst cemetery for 1:00 p.m. interment service. Full Military Honors will be provided by East Tn. State Volunteer Honor Guard and Knox County Sheriff's Department Honor Guard. Family will receive friends Saturday 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel Of Berry Funeral Home, 2300 W. DR. ARTHUR H. HAFNER JR.
Dr. Arthur H. Hafner, Jr., formerly of Maryville, age 86, died Monday, September 29th, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on September 9, 1917, in Altoona, Pennsylvania, to the late Arthur H. Hafner and Agnes Taylor Hafner, and was raised in St. Johnsbury, Vermont. After receiving his Doctor of Education degree from Columbia University, he served as a professor of teacher education in Texas, Missouri, Tennessee, and Kentucky. He was formerly the Chairman of the Education Department at Maryville College, and while in Maryville was also active in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Maryville Kiwanis club, and with the Contact Helpline.
He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Arthur and Gail Hafner of Maryville; John and Marcy Hafner of Moab, Utah; Paul and Paula Hafner of Newport, Rhode Island; and Carl and Brenda Hafner of San Antonio, Texas; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years Lucy Albert Hafner; infant son James T. Hafner; and siblings Nancy Dunn, Carolyn Sullivan, and Amos Hafner.
A memorial service will be held in San Antonio, followed by burial at a future date at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Plainfield Township, Pennsylvania. Memorials may be made to Sisters Care of San Antonio; 1946 La Manda Blvd., San Antonio, Texas 78201. Sisters Care is a non-profit ministry that provides personal care to the elderly.

CHARLES LEROY NICHOLS
Charles LeRoy Nichols, age 89 of Louisville died Thursday, October 2, 2003 at Blount Memorial Hospital. preceded in death by: Wife, Hazel Fern Nichols; Son, James Nichols; Parents, Jakcob R. Nichols and Pearl Beebe Nichols; Daughter, Deana Marie Castetter; Brothers, George Nichols and Edward Nichols; Sisters, Florence Ealy, Phillis McKenly, Jesse Cox and Nellie Gammer.
Survivors include: Sons and Daughters-in-law, Rollin "Ron" & Edwina Nichols of Maryville and Charles and Joni Nichols of Calhoun, GA; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Sister, Grace Beaver of East Peoria, IL.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 11, 2003 at Fairview United Methodist Church in Trent Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Faithful Men, Fairview United Methodist Church, 2505 Old Niles Ferry Road, Maryville, TN 37803.
