CURTIS WAYNE JACKSON JR.
Curtis Wayne Jackson, Jr., age 40, of Lenoir City passed away Thursday, July 31, 2003 at his home. He attended Fellowship Baptist Church. Wayne was baptized at Hickory Valley Baptist Church. He was a graduate of ITT Tech. preceded in death by grandfathers, Earl Harvey and Maurice Jackson; grandmother, Katherine Harvey; uncles, Sam Skidmore and Kenneth Disney.
Survived by children, Katherine Nicole Jackson and Curtis Wayne Jackson III; parents, Curtis and Barbara Jackson; brothers, Todd Jackson and wife, Corky, Moe Jackson and wife, Selena; grandmother, Martha Jackson; nephews, Sam Jackson and Maurice Jackson; niece, Alyssa Jackson; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:45 p.m. Sunday at Click Funeral Home in Lenoir City with funeral services to follow at 8 p.m. Sunday with Rev. Eddie Chasteen and Rev. Mark Harvey officiating. Family and friends will gather at 11 a.m. Monday in the Hickory Valley cemetery for graveside services. CHARLES MICHAEL `CHUCK' MCKENZIE
Charles Michael (Chuck) McKenzie, born June 30, 1956 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada passed away quietly in his Tennessee home July 30, 2003 after a heroic battle with cancer. He leaves behind his wife and companion of 20 years, Anne-Marie; loving daughter, Mary-Anne; parents, Dorothy and Ed; siblings, Marna, Joan, and Jim; and 8 nieces and nephews.
Chuck graduated Cum Laude from Wichita State University (1981) with a bachelor's degree in aeronautical engineering and went on to work at Bristol Aerospace for 17 years. Chuck returned to school at the University of Manitoba for his MBA and graduated as class valedictorian (1998). Once joining Standard Aero Inc. (1999) Chuck was promoted and transferred to Maryville, Tennessee where he assumed the position of Vice-President of Standard Aero Alliance. Chuck was a lover of life and people. Active and athletic, he touched the hearts of everyone he met. Though his life was cut short, it was full of love, laughter, and friendships. All those who knew Chuck will truly miss him.

CLARA ELLA PETERS
Clara Ella Peters, age 94, of South Knoxville, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at St. Mary's Hospital. She was of the Baptist faith and was a longtime employee of Baptist Hospital. preceded in death by parents, William Sam and Ruby Franklin; husband, Tilman A. Peters; daughter, Ruby Geraldine Keirsey, and son-in-law, Homer S. Keirsey, Sr.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Don and Debbie Peters of Maryville; 6 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family and friends will meet 11 a.m. on Saturday at Woodlawn cemetery with Rev. Tom King officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway.
AMY RUTH COCHRAN POTTER
Amy Ruth Cochran Potter, age 75, most commonly called Ruth, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at her home. She was a Christian having been born again of water and the Spirit. A member of Maryville Church of Christ for over 55 years. Ruth was retired from Bell South in 1986. She had made many friends and acquaintances all her years with this company in Maryville and Knoxville.
Preceded in death by: father, Luther Cochran; mother, Bessie Pass Cochran Powell; brothers, Clinton and Earl Cochran; grandson, Chris Brookshire.
She is survived by her spiritual family of brothers and sisters in Christ as well as her physical family of: husband of 55 years, Hugh Potter; daughter, Rebekah (Becky) Ferry of Knoxville; son, Mark Cochran Potter and wife Judy of Louisville; grandson, Aaron Ferry of Knoxville; grandchildren, Sarah, Blair; great-grandson, Landon; sister, Lois (Mrs. James) Coleman of Maryville; special cousin and family, Helen Strickland of Calhoun, GA; several nieces and nephews.
Family, loved one and friends will assemble at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 1, 2003 at Sherwood Memorial Gardens for the graveside service and interment conducted by Bro. Herb Byrd. FELIX SAWYER
Felix Sawyer, age 87, of Nashville passed away July 31, 2003 at the Colonial Hills Nursing Home in Maryville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elinor Sawyer. Mr. Sawyer was a graduate of Franklin High School and Peabody College. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and then joined Commerce Union Bank (now Bank of America) in 1948. When he retired in 1980, he was a Senior Vice President of the Bank. He was a long-time member of Glen Leven Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon.
Survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Robert Helton of Alcoa, Tn., sister Helen Potts of Franklin, Tn., brother William Sawyer of Nashville, Tn., nieces and nephews, Judy Dishman, Bill Sawyer, Kathryn Stalcup all of Nashville, Tn., Sherrell Waddle of Anniston, Al., Dr. Joe Hardin of Mobile, Al. VELMA TIPTON CURTIS
Velma Tipton Curtis, age 90 of Knoxville, who was born October 3, 1912, departed this life on Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at Farragut Health Care Center.
Velma was raised in Maryville and retired from ALCOA, where she was employed as a secretary to the Works Manager. During her lifetime, she traveled extensively. For several years, she was the care giver of her wheel-chair bound sister, Nell.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mollie Farr and James M. Tipton, who owned and operated the "James M. Tipton General Merchandise" store in West Maryville; sisters, Nell Harrison and Grace Bailey; brothers, Paul and Roy Tipton; nephew, Rex Reed Tipton; nieces, June Taylor and husband Lee Taylor and Jean Williams.
Survivors are nieces, Jacqueline and husband, James A. Newman, Joan Hess all of Knoxville, Jennie Lynn McCarter, Judy Ann McCune; nephew, James R. Tipton all of Ft. Wayne, IN, Lynnie and Tommy Sproles of Elizabethton, Mathney Reed Tipton of Charlotte, SC, Rebecca Lawless of Austin, TX; sister-in-law, Katherine Taylor of Ft. Wayne, IN; great-nieces and great-nephews, Harry and Diane Newman of Maryville, Teressia Blair of Atlanta, Sandra and Tom McCarter, Linda Deckard all of Maryville, Jerry and Karen Taylor of Winston Salem, NC, James and Denise Hess of Brentwood, Fred and Margie Hess of Knoxville; several great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews and one great-great-great-niece.

James L. Ingram, age 80, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at Fort Sanders Nursing Home, Sevierville. Member of Valley Grove Baptist Church. Retired from University of Tennessee Safety and Security. preceded in death by parents, Lawrence and Florence Ingram; wife, Ruth Russell Ingram; brother, Bill Ingram.

L.A. Shropshire, age 68 of Maryville passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at the family home. preceded in death by son, Michael Troy Shropshire; parents, Jess and Lillie Shropshire; brothers, Uless Shropshire, Hillian Shropshire; sisters, Joyce White and Grace Riden.
Survivors: wife, Mary Hitch Shropshire; daughters and son-in-law, Debbie and Bob Bradley of Maryville, Donna Shropshire of Maryville; son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Pat Shropshire of Maryville; grandchildren, Heather Yencho, Lori Wade and Abbi Shropshire; great-grandchildren, Madison 'Rainbow' Wade, Bradley 'Smiley' Wade; sister, Daisy Miller of Maryville; several nieces and nephews.

DECIMA ANN SMELCER
Decima Ann Smelcer, 91, of Seymour went home to be with her Lord and loved ones that were waiting for her in heaven. Decima began her glorious journey at Sevier County Health Care Center surrounded by many of the people who loved her.
At an early age, Decima gave her life to her Lord Jesus and joined the New Salem Baptist Church. Since that time she has been a faithful servant of the Lord and church.
Her husbands, Claude Rolen and Richard Smelcer; children, Lois Proffitt and O.J. Rolen; brothers, Cled and Ivan Sutton; sisters, Rosie Presnell and Eva Williams were waiting to welcome her to her heavenly home.
Decima leaves behind to mourn her loss, daughters and sons-in-law, June and Kenneth Proffitt, Golee and Auburn Rolen, Sheila and Charles Patrick; sons and daughters-in-law, C.B. and Trudy Rolen, J. Roy and Teressa Rolen, Horace and Doris Rolen, Rev. Donald and Magdalene Rolen, Dexter and Linda Rolen; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; brother, Cleophus and Stella Sutton; son-in-law, Roy Proffitt. Besides the immediate family, Decima will be missed by many relatives and friends whose life she has touched during her lifetime.
Service will be 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 31, 2003 at Rawlings Funeral Chapel with Rev. Andy Ball and Rev. David Newman officiating. Interment will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 1 at Rolen Breeden Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 31 at Rawlings Funeral Home.
The grandsons have been honored to serve as pallbearers for their grandmother.

Bertha Elizabeth Walker, age 94 of Alcoa died Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was born in the Greenbrier part of the Smoky Mountains.
Preceded in death by: husband, Hugh Walker; daughter, Blanche Curtis; son, Fred Whaley; parents, John and Idana Whaley; brothers, Leonard, Oliver, Homer and Burl Whaley; sister, Nola Whaley Shell.

Jack E. Stinnett, age 69 of Maryville, passed away Sunday morning, July 27, 2003, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Martha Elizabeth Stinnett.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Stinnett; sons, Bart Stinnett, Bryan Stinnett all of Maryville and Jack E. Stinnett, Jr. of Richmond, VA; mother-in-law, Nell Warnock of Maryville.
Funeral services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dave Ward officiating. The interment will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
