Claudia Celeste (Bea) Compton, age 80 of Alcoa died Tuesday, December 31, 2002, at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. Claudia was a Veteran of World War II and worked as a health care professional for many years. preceded in death by: parents, Claude and Grace Whitehead; brother, John A. Whitehead; sister, Wilma Sue (Mickey) Whitehead.
Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Laura Tucker of IL; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Bill Sparks of Maryville; grandson, Brad Sparks; granddaughters, Beth Sparks of Maryville and Alexa Tucker of IL; brother and sister-in-law, Tyson and Jenny Whitehead of Paris, TN; Sister, Margaret W. VERNON C. COX
Vernon C. Cox, age 80 of Maryville, formerly of Dayton, OH, died Thursday, January 2, 2003, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a Veteran of World War II and a previous member of The Masons. He was of the Presbyterian faith.
Survivors include: wife, Cheryl A. Cox; son, Kevin L. Cox of Cincinnati, OH; daughters, Michelle and husband John Robison of Maryville and Melanie Cox of Maryville; grandchildren, Ryan, Kimberly, Brianna, Bryce, and Cameron Robison.

DONALD `DON' CLARK FEEZELL
Donald 'Don' Clark Feezell, age 69, died Monday, January 2, 2003 at U.T. Memorial Hospital. Member of Clover Hill Presbyterian Church, Maryville. Original owner of Feezell Funeral Supplies and owned Sozonian Vault Company, president of Feezell Enterprises and past president Tennessee Funeral Supply Sales Club. Veteran of Korean War, serving in U.S. Air Force. He established the first crematory in Tennessee in 1963. After much controversy, he went to the Supreme Court in order to get the crematory open. This case is now in law books of state of Tennessee. preceded in death by parents, W. Clark and Bunett Feezell; and daughter, Terrie Feezell.
Survivors: wife, Jane (Miller) Feezell of Knoxville; daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Ted Huff of Maryville; Debra and Terry Dew of Knoxville; son, Clark Feezell of Jupiter, FL; grandchildren, Craig Huff of Maryville and Amanda Lokay of Jupiter, FL; great-grandchildren, Andrew and Erika Huff of Maryville; brother and sister-in-law, Charles L. and Billye Feezell of Jonesboro, GA; special cousin and her husband, Gail and Sewa Singh.

Betty Lipe (Granny) Morelock, age 74 of Maryville died Wednesday, January 1, 2003, at Baptist Hospital. She was a member of Clarks Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church. preceded in death by: husband, Albert E. Morelock; parents, Verdie and Minnie Lipe; sisters, Mildred Benton and Margaret Allison; sons and daughters-in-law, Tony and Mary Mabrey of Maryville and Thomas and Cathy Boger of Hampstead, NC; daughter-in-law, Georgianna Adams of Maryville; grandchildren, Lea and husband Jim Prater, Jamie Boger and Regina Tesmer, Jonell Adams, Frankie and wife Sarah Marandville; great-grandchildren, Justin and Deidre Prater, Sam, Gabe, Emily, and Lilly Marandville; brother, Bruce Allen Lipe of Concord, NC; sister, Edna Bryant of Gastonia, NC.

DENNIS MICHAEL BRANWELL
Dennis Michael Branwell, "Snap", age 50, died December 28, 2002, after a hard fought battle with cancer. He was born in Flint, Michigan on June 26, 1952; graduated from Vero Beach, Florida High School and attended the University of Tennessee majoring in agriculture. Dennis served six years in the United States Coast Guard stationed in Juneau Alaska, after which he was employed by BellSouth as a lineman for 24 years. Dennis was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, NASCAR racing and football. Dennis also loved the cowboy life; in his words, "I'm a cowboy born 100 years too late". He also was associated with the Tennessee Valley Golden Retriever Rescue.
He is survived by his wife and soulmate of 18 memorable years, Debbie Costello Branwell; one son, Shaun Branwell; beloved parents, Jack and Elsie Branwell; two sisters, Pamela Lockler and MaryKay Ward, and their children; one brother and sister-in-law, Patrick and Connie Branwell, and their children; special mother-in-law, Opal (Mom) Costello; and two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Carolyn and Mike Hearndon and their son Billy; and Judy and Tom Hamilton; and numerous extended family and friends together with his faithful canine companion JD and faithful feline companion FuzzBall.
The family will receive friends from 6-9:00 p.m. Friday night at their home at 2971 Little Dug Gap Lane in Louisville, TN. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at the Cades Cove Primitive Baptist Church in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park at 12:00 p.m. (that's a Cowboy High Noon), with the Reverend Kenneth Scaife officiating. Please dress casual and warm. A memorial service will also be held at the Central Assembly of God Church in Vero Beach, FL with the Reverend Buddy Tipton officiating. Harvey Cable, age 82 of Friendsville, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2003 at Maryville Health Care Center. He was of the Baptist Faith and a native of Cades Cove. preceded in death by wife, Doshie B. Cable, step son, Lloyd Russell, 2 infant sons, 1 infant step son, 5 brothers and 1 sister.

Lottie Belle Evans, age 95 of Greenback, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2003 at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Morganton Missionary Baptist Church and preceded in death by husband, Ellis N. Evans Sr., sons, Clarence E. Evans, James Coy Evans, William Troy Evans, Step daughter, Lillian Wilder, parents and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include, sons and daughters in law, Everett and Jewel Evans, Roy and June Evans, Owen and Willie Clyde Evans, Ellis and Geneva Evans, Lee and Carole Evans all of Greenback, Kenneth and Virginia Evans of Lenoir City; daughters in law, Edna Evans of Greenback and Mildred Evans of Maryville; step daughter, Gladys Owens of Maryville; numerous grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren; brother, George Owens of Sweetwater; half sisters, Mattie Lee and Leena of Speedwell, TN.; half brother, Marshall Owens of Speedwell, TN.; several nieces and nephews.

TERESA SIVILS LAUVER
Teresa Sivils Lauver, age 91, of Alcoa, died January 1, 2003 at her home. A member of Alcoa First United Methodist Church, she was active for many years as a Sunday school teacher, circle leader, and president of the Women's Society of Christian Service. She was born at her maternal grandparents' home near LaFollette and grew up as a "preacher's kid" in towns across East Tennessee and North Georgia. She attended Tennessee Wesleyan College before working as a telephone operator and member of the Clinton Courier News staff. preceded in death by husband of 50 years, Murl Lauver; parents, the Rev. and Mrs. M. L. Sivils; and brothers Dr. Albert Sivils of Copperhill and Dr. George Sivils of Chattanooga.
Survived by son and daughter-in-law David and Susan Lauver of Farragut; grandchildren Will and Mary Emily Lauver; sister Elizabeth Moody of Chattanooga; sisters-in-law Mary Sivils of Copperhill and Elizabeth Sivils of Chattanooga; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family expresses thanks to caregivers, friends, and staff and volunteers of Blount Memorial Hospice.

Leslie Farrell McGaughey, age 38, a native of Mobile, Alabama, a resident of Loudon for the past three years, lost her battle with cancer on Tuesday, December 31, 2002. She was a longtime member of the Church of Christ.
Survived by husband, Earl F. McGaughey; daughter, Meg Farrell Aubrey; son, Andrew (Drew) Farrell McGaughey; parents, Norma Leffew Farrell and Bernie Farrell of Loudon; sister, Anita Albano and husband, Terry; niece and nephew, Hannah and Connor Albano, all of Mobile, AL; many other relatives, friends and her Ruby Tuesday family. The family wishes to express a very special thanks to Ruby Tuesday Corporate Office in Maryville for the many acts of kindness shown to them during Leslie's illness. ERIN OLIVIA VALENTINE
Erin Olivia Valentine, 23 of Maryville, died Tuesday morning at Blount Memorial Hospital in Maryville, TN. Erin was the daughter of Dr. Melissa Trekell and Dr. Robert Valentine. Erin was a member of East Maryville Baptist Church. Erin graduated from Maryville High School in 1997 and later attended East Tennessee State University for two years. Erin then transferred to the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, North Carolina, where she graduated cum laude in May of 2002 with a bachelor's degree of science in marine biology and a minor in environmental studies. After graduating from UNCW Erin moved to Houston, Texas where she was preparing to attend law school with a focus in environmental law. Erin loved anything outdoors, and was completely fascinated by the ocean. She also enjoyed scuba diving, playing the piano and cooking. She had a zest for life that not only influenced her life, but touched those around her. Erin was preceded in death by her grandmother Lee Rose Valentine, her uncle Mark Trekell, Uncle Gregory Van Trekell, and Grandfather Dr. William Trekell.
She is survived by her mother Dr. Melissa Trekell of Maryville, TN, father Dr. Robert Valentine of Knoxville, TN, sister Ashley Valentine of Maryville, TN, her soul mate Jim Van Fleet of Maryville, TN, Grandmother Nina Wray Trekell of Maryville, TN, grandfather Darrell Valentine of Wellington, KS, great-grandmother Rosa Criss of Denver, Colorado. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who loved her and she will always hold a special place in all of their hearts.
