PHYLLIS JEAN HUFFSTETLER BENNETT
Phyllis Jean Huffstetler Bennett, age 67 of Friendsville, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2003, at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her former husband, Gene Allen Bennett, Sr., and sister, Joanna Gail Huffstetler.
Survivors include: daughters and sons-in-law, Lora and John McMillan and Trina and Lee Ivens all of Friendsville; son, Kevin Brent Bennett of Philadelphia, TN; grandson, Ethan Edward McMillan of Friendsville; mother, Mae Murphy Huffstetler of Maryville; sisters, Dorothy Raulston, Pauline Huffstetler and Betty Turner all of Maryville; brother, Lester Huffstetler and wife Mary of Alcoa; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Friday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Steve Raulston officiating. The entombment will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday in Sherwood Mausoleum.

PRUDIA MCLEMORE
Prudia McLemore, age 84 of McKenzie, Tennessee formerly of Madisonville, passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2003 in McKenzie, Tennessee. Member of Hopewell Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors: husband, John N. McLemore; daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Adron Joyner, McKenzie, Tennessee; sons and daughters-in-law, Lindon and Pauline McLemore, J.R. and Lorene McLemore, all of Madisonville; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by two grandsons.
Funeral 8:00 p.m. Friday, Biereley-Hale Chapel, Rev. Joe Torbett, Rev. Gary Duncan officiating. Interment 11:00 a.m. Saturday Hopewell Springs Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday at Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, Madisonville.
WANDA LYNN SMITH
Wanda Lynn Smith, age 68, of Oak Ridge, died January 8, 2003 at the Methodist Medical Center.
Born January 14, 1934 in Townsend, TN, the daughter of Guy Allan Brown, who is deceased and Edith King Brown of Maryville.
Resident of Oak Ridge since 1953. She had worked in the women's apparel department at Millers, Penney's and Goody's and was a former manager of the Gateway Card Shop in Downtown Oak Ridge and later of the Tri-County Waterbed Shop. She enjoyed working with the public, but always put her family ahead of her own interests. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her son, Stephen Smith of Oak Ridge. His wife, Norma, now resides in Boca Raton, FL.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Clifford Smith of Oak Ridge; son, Mark Smith and his wife Valarie of Bristol, TN; sisters, Mary Elizabeth Story, Loretta Sutton and Peggy Raby, all of Maryville and Vivian Connaster of Florida; and by her brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws Ralph and Shirley Smith of Alcoa and Joann and Marion Waters of Maryville.
The funeral service will be at 8:00 p.m., Thursday, January 9, 2003 at Weatherford Mortuary with Rev. Robert T. Cantrell officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. Memorials can be made in the form of contributions to the First United Methodist Church of Oak Ridge, P.O. Box 4669, Oak Ridge, TN, 37831. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00-8:00 at Weatherford Mortuary, Oak Ridge.
CORNIA C. TOMPKINS
Cornia C. Tompkins, age 96, of South Knoxville, passed away Monday, January 6, 2003 at her home. Member of North Knoxville Baptist Church. preceded in death by husband, Charles Tompkins; and daughter, Dorthea Pitner.
Survivors include son, Charles Tompkins, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Billie; grandchildren, Tracy and Vicky Pitner, Pam Odom, Kimberly, Chuck and Mike Tompkins; great-grandchildren, Chad, Morgan and Dalton Tompkins and Jeremy and Charles Odom; and son-in-law, Clarence Pitner.
Family and friends will meet at the front gate of Lynnhurst cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday for an 11:00 a.m. graveside service with Rev. Guy Milam officiating. Arrangements by Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway.

Janet B. Wells, age 78 of Knoxville, passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2003 at 7:35 p.m. preceded in death by husband, Lt. Col. Joseph L. Wells, USAF (Retired).
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Charles J. and Lorraine Wells of Tallahassee, Florida; daughter, Kathy J. Wells of Maryville; daughter and son-in-law, Marty and Doug Hampton of Maryville; grandchildren, Joey Hampton, Jesse Hampton, Jasmine Freeman-Wells, Jodie Wells, Jamie Wells, and Monique Gonzalez; and special friends, Ms. Norma Godsea, Ms. Kathryn Pierotti, Ms. Virginia Dalton, and Ms. Kim Lissick, and friend and home health nurse, Vriginia. Special thanks to the Manorhouse staff for their special care, nurturing and friendship over the years and to Sacred Heart for spiritual encouragement.

SHAFER, JAMES V., 86, Indianapolis, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, at Millers Senior Living, Indianapolis. He was retired in 1981 from Earlham College.
Survivors: wife, Martha Shafer of Indianapolis; daughters, Linda L. Fry of Indianapolis, Dee Ann Hinkle of Kokomo, Ind.; son, Barry K. Shafer of Maryville; 11 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Randall & Roberts Funeral Home, Noblesville, Ind. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Earlham Cemetery, Richmond, Ind.

Trinia Diane Belcher, age 43 of Maryville, passed away Monday, January 6, 2003, at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her father, Bob Hatcher.
Survivors include: husband, Harold Belcher; mother, Vonda Hatcher; brother, Danny Hatcher; nephew, Ryan; stepmother, Eva Hatcher; sister-in-law, Sandra Belcher; grandfather, Walter Lawhon; several aunts, uncles, cousins, stepbrothers and stepsisters.

ALAN WATSON BIRDWELL
Funeral services for Alan Watson Birdwell, 46, of Cookeville were held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, from the Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ.
Mr. Birdwell died on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at his home.
He was born Dec. 23, 1955, in Cookeville to the late J. and Mary Watson Birdwell. Mr. Birdwell was the owner of Birdwell Termite and Pest Control Co. of Cookeville. He was a member of Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ and an avid fisherman. He was raised in Maryville and graduated from Everett High School in 1973.
His family includes his wife Kathie Helton Birdwell of Cookeville; a sister, Patsy Standifer of Cookeville; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Jeannie Birdwell of Newport, Tenn.; his father-in-law, and mother-in-law, Charles and Edith Shipley; nieces and nephews, Pam and Tony Cook, Jennifer Spurlock, Brad and Lori Skaggs, Slade and Susan Stroud, Stacie Standifer, Kristen and Nathan Shipley; special friend, Mike Pearson; beloved pets, Siler and Harry.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Janice Jackson; and a nephew, Jeff Jackson.
Bro. Mike Benson and Bro. Gary Hampton officiated at the services.

Nellie Huffstetler Fishburn, age 90 of Maryville, passed away Monday, January 6, 2003, at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was a charter member of Carpenters Campground United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Tip Fishburn; parents, Floyd and Minnie McKinley Huffstetler; brothers, Luther and Cecil Huffstetler and sister, Stella Word.
Survivors include: daughters, Betty Phelps of Mandeville, LA, Ann Best of Louisville; son, Jim Fishburn; son-in-law, Troy Best; daughter-in-law, Brenda Fishburn; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Carole Hatcher; brothers, Issac, Elize, Eugene, Tommy, and Glen Huffstetler; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Tucker officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Carpenters cemetery for the interment service.

Marvline Lockwood, age 65 of Alcoa died Monday, January 6, 2003, at the University of Tennessee Hospital.
Preceded in death by: father, Clayton Martin; Mother, Agnes Martin. Elizabeth Stooksbury Ogg Luther Reiss, age 96, passed away Sunday, January 5, 2003, at Asbury Acres Health Center, Maryville, Tennessee. Born in Harrogate, Tennessee, she was the previous owner of Knoxville Business College.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, A.M. and Eleanor Luther; grandchildren and spouses, Elizabeth and Karl Walker, Jane and Mike Brown; one great-grandchild, Joshua Craven.
