LOIS KRAMER SMITH
Lois Kramer Smith, age 85 of Maryville passed away Thursday, September 12, 2002 at Blount Memorial Hospital in the presence of her family. She was born in Illinois on March 23, 1917 and raised in Miami, Florida. She attended Maryville College and graduated from George Peabody (Vanderbilt) with a degree in education. She taught school until her marriage to Dr. George A. Kramer, who preceded her in death. She was a former President of the YWCA and Garden Club of New Brunswick, NJ. In Maryville, her volunteer work include Blount County Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, Glasses for the Masses, and the Community Food Connection. She was a long term member of New Providence Presbyterian Church and a supporter of Maryville College.
She is survived by her husband, Alden Smith of Maryville; two sons, Dr. Peter Kramer of Morrisville, VT and Fred Kramer of Bethesda, MD; one daughter, Betty Ann of Arlington, VA, two daughters-in-law, Linda Kramer of Morrisville, VT and Robin Kramer of Bethesda, MD; four grandsons, Matthew, Jeffery, Zachary, and Justin.
Friends and family will celebrate her life at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at New Providence Presbyterian Church. In Lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Dr. George Kramer Scholarship Fund at Maryville College. McCammon-Ammons-Click, 982-6812.

GRACE E. WELCH
Grace E. Welch, age 78 of Maryville died Wednesday, September 11, 2002 at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was of the Baptist Faith. preceded in death by: parents; husband, Arnold Welch; sister, Ruth Harvell; brother, John Bolden.
Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Debbie Moore of Maryville; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Jim Pierce, Brenda and Sam Day, Sherri and Bill Dunlap all of Maryville; daughter, Shelia Hemen of Louisiana; grandchildren, Jason Jarrell, Robert and Corey Hemen, Amy Pierce, Jessica Davis, Brett Day, Tesla and Brandy Moore.
Family and friends will assemble at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 13, 2002 at Sherwood Memorial Gardens for the graveside service and interment with Rev. Mike Parker officiating. Family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 12, 2002, Trinity Chapel, Smith Mortuary, Maryville, 865-983-1000.

JAMES HOWARD CHAPMAN
James Howard Chapman, age 65 of Maryville, passed away Saturday evening, December 7, 2002 at East Tennessee Health Care Center in Madisonville.
Survivors include brother and sister in law, Raymond and Una V. Chapman of Maryville; sisters and brother-in-law, Ethelene and Billy Clark of Sweetwater; sister-in-law, Barbara Chapman of Maryville; special cousin, Ann Smith of Maryville; several other cousins, nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will meet at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 10, 2002 at Liberty Christian cemetery for graveside service and interment, Dr. Tom McClemore officiating. Friends may call at their convenience Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.

MRS. BILLIE E. FRANK
Mrs. Billie E. Frank, age 79 of Maryville, passed away Sunday morning, December 8, 2002 at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church and preceded in death by husband, John W. Frank, son, Ronald E. Frank, daughter, Martha Sue Chambers, sisters, Rose Goddard, Lillie Campbell, Thelma Stinnett and brothers, Charles Higgins and Henry Higgins.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Cynthia Frank of Michigan; grandsons, Joe Frank of Michigan, Ronald Edward Chambers of Maryville, Patrick Russell Chambers of Maryville; granddaughters, Sara Frank of Michigan, Tracey and husband Bud Cooper of Maryville; great-grandchildren, Victoria Cooper, Kevin Cooper, Dustin Chambers, Autumn Chambers and Summer Chambers; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside service and interment 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 10, 2002 at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Rev. Tyson McKeehan officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Tennessee, One Vantage Way, Suite C-250, Nashville TN. 37228. Friends may call at their convenience from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.

EDRA MAYES ROGERS
Edra Mayes Rogers of Maryville went to Heaven on Saturday, December 7, 2002 at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Monte Vista Baptist Church, where she served as W.M.U. Director, Sunday School, teacher and Crisis Closet Director. She helped start Chilhowee Baptist Center and enjoyed working there. She was one of the founders of East Walland Baptist Church. She worked for many years in the Blount memorial Hospital Auxilliary and was a life member. She graduated from Sevier County High School and attended Carson Newman College. She did substitute teaching for many years in Sevier County and Alcoa schools. She worked several years with her husband in real estate.
Preceeded in death by her husband of 65 years, Glenn Rogers; son, Jim Rogers and parents Mr. and Mrs. J. Allen Mayes.
Survived by son, Charles Rogers and wife Linda; daughter Anne Capps and husband Clyde; grandsons, Scott McInturff and wife Julie and Eric McInturff and wife Leslie; and granddaughter Angela Simonet of Florida; great-grandsons, Sean and Nicholas McInturff; sisters Lillie Rayfied and Lola Douglass; nieces Betty Tolliver, Bobbie Taylor, Sue Brewer and Linda Henderson; nephews Jack Rayfield and Ray Douglass.
Interment of ashes in Grandview Mausoleum. Memorial Service will be Thursday, December 12 at 7:00 p.m. at Monte Vista Baptist Church. Family will receive friends immediately following the service. Memorials may be made to the Chilhowee Baptist Center.

BYERS, WINONA

formerly of Alcoa, died Sunday morning in Tampa, Fla. The body will be returned to Maryville for burial. Arrangements will be announced later by Foothills Funeral Home, Maryville.

HEILMAN, JOHN W., 84, Maryville, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002 at Blount Memorial Hospital. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.

Lillian Cantrell, age 84 of Louisville, died Saturday at Maryville Health Care. She was preceded in death by her Husband: Earvin Cantrell Sr., Son: E.C. Jr. She was a member of Midway Baptist Church.

DAVID MICHAEL CARROLL
David Michael Carroll, age 32 of Maryville, passed away Thursday, December 5, 2002, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was preceded in death by his father, James A. Vogel; grandfathers, Lyle Vogel, Sr. and Walter Irwin; father-in-law and mother-in-law, David and Anna Rhea Shelton.
Survivors include: wife, Christy Shelton Carroll; children, Lauren Ann Carroll and Tiffany Dawn Carroll; mother, Charlotte Irwin Vogel; grandmothers, Lola Irwin Russell and Calverna Vogel; sisters, Donna Vogel and husband Lyle, Christy Wise and husband Steve, Shawn Vogel and Marie Vogel; brothers, Matt Vogel and Alan Vogel; several uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins; brother-in-law, Rick Shelton; sister-in-law, Pat Shropshire and husband Alan.
Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Tim Shoulders officiating. The interment will be at 1:00 p.m. Sunday at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.

MIGNONNE GOYNE STALEY
Mignonne Goyne Staley passed away Friday morning, December 6, 2002, at the home of her son, Alwyn Staley. She was a longtime member of Broadway United Methodist Church and active in all phases of the church life. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alwyn Hoyle Staley as well as her three sisters, Pauline Nash, Lillian Seaton and Lucy Meares.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Alwyn and Peachy Staley and by her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Frank Dodson. Also surviving are three devoted grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, Cleveland May and his wife Cara and their daughter, Emmaline, Alwyn Bradford Staley and Mignonne May.
Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Dougherty and Rev. Robert Hayes officiating. Family and friends will meet at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Grandview cemetery for the interment service. The family will receive friends from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Sunday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville. For those who wish, memorials may be made to Blount Memorial Hospital Hospice, 1095 E. Charles Yates, age 56 of Maryville, died Friday, November 29, 2002 at his home. He was employed by Walker's Trucking in Knoxville. preceded in death by: Mother, Thelma Yates.
Survivors include: Daughters and Son-in-laws Michelle & James Roberts of Sevierville, Shannon & Tony Graham of IL and Crystal & Keith Needy of Hawaii; Grandchildren, Heaven & Jamie Roberts, Anthony, Steven, Kegan, Joshua, Jacob Graham, Raymond Needy; Father, John Yates of Maryville; Brother, Kenneth Wayne Yates of Lenoir City; Sister and Brother-in-law, Shelby & Charles Abbott of Walland.
Funeral service will be at 7:30 pm, Sunday, December 8, 2002 at Smith Mortuary. Family and friends will assemble at 2:00 pm, Monday, December 9, 2002 at New Providence Primitive Baptist Church cemetery for the interment. Family will be receiving friends from 5:30 pm until 7:30 pm, Sunday, Smith Mortuary, Maryville, 865-983-1000.

BRUCE WILLIAM HILLIARD JR.
Bruce William Hilliard, Jr., age 30, of Walland, TN, died Monday, December 2, 2002. He had an Associate Degree in Electronics and was a member of the Insane Fisherman's Club. He had lived here for twenty years having come from Chicago. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Lillie Rogers.
Survivors: father, Bruce William Hilliard; and mother, Joyce Ann Rogers; brother, Chris and sister-in-law, Denise Hilliard; fianceé, Danyal Burns, all of Walland; grandparents, Bruce Rogers of Walland, and William and Esther Hilliard of Chicago, IL.
The funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m., Friday, December 6, 2002 at Dotson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. R. L. Whitehead officiating. Interment will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 7, 2002 at Ellejoy Cemetery, Seymour, TN. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday at Dotson Funeral Home, 4838 Wildwood Road, Wildwood. (984-5959).

GEORGE A. PAINTER JR.
George A. "Gig" Painter, Jr., born August 30, 1949 in Athens, TN, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2002, at Blount Memorial Hospital in Maryville, TN. He was an active member of Maryville First United Methodist Church where he had chaired the Finance Committee, Worship Committee, Administrative Board and Staff-Parish Committee. He was a graduate of Tennessee Wesleyan, and served as a member of the Board of Asbury Centers, Inc. His community service includes chairing the Blount County Dogwood Arts Festival and serving as president of the Blount County United Way Board. He was the founding Director and Chair of the Board of Leadership Blount, a member of the Board of Trustees of Maryville College, a founding member of the Board of the Blount Memorial Hospital Foundation, and a member of Maryville Kiwanis Club. Mr. Painter was a Senior Vice President and Investment Advisor with the Private Client Services Group of Sun Trust Bank in Knoxville, TN. He has been in the securities and financial services field since 1979, and was previously associated with Morgan Stanley, Dean Wittier and J. C. Bradford & Company. He held a variety of professional designations and was a member of the National Leadership Council for the Oppenheimer Family of Mutual Funds.
Survivors include: wife, Kathy; daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and Andrew Johnson; son, Kevin; mother, Mrs. Robbie Lee Painter; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harold and Jean Lambert; sister, Nancy Casson and husband Flavis Casson; sister-in-law, Sherry Miller and husband Karl Miller; brother-in-law, Randy Lambert and wife Laney; several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 7, 2002, at Grandview cemetery with Dr. Darris Doyal officiating.
The family will receive friends from 4-7:00 p.m. Friday, December 6, 2002, at Maryville First United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Cancer Center Project at Blount Memorial Hospital, making checks payable to the Blount Memorial Foundation, 907 E. Lamar Alexander Parkway, Maryville, TN 37804 or to Maryville First United Methodist Church, 804 Montvale Station Road, Maryville, TN 37803.
