MAUDIE B. CABLE
Maudie B. Cable, , age 90 of Maryville, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2002. She was from Cades Cove and was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde V. Cable; children, Johnnie Vondell Campbell, Charles "Jack" Cable and Phyllis Ann Cable; brothers, Barney Cable, Asa Cable, Hubert Cable; sister, Minnie Cable.
Survivors include: brother, Robert "Buster" Cable; sister, Coza Milsaps; daughter-in-law, Wanda Cable; son-in-law, Woodrow Campbell; grandchildren, Jackie Glenn, Larry Cable, Lisa Webb, Cindy Everett, Mark Cable, Judy McCaulley, Woody Campbell, Ronnie Campbell, Rex Campbell, Rickie Campbell, Gail Carroll, Connie Whitehead, Pam Hammel and Donnie Campbell; several great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; special friend, Peggy McKee.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Knob Road Baptist Church at Six Mile with Rev. Jerry Little officiating. The interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery.

CHARLES `TOM' CAGLE
Charles "Tom" Cagle, age 36, passed away Sunday October 6, 2002, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. A graduate of Sevier County High School and member of New Hope Church of God. He was active in Charity events, a favorite of which was Smoky Mountain Children Home. Tom was owner of Ol' Smoky Discount Tobacco Stores and former partner in Sevier County Bonding Company. He was preceded in death by his father, Gordon Cagle, grandparents, Charlie and Beulah Cagle, Tom and Hazel Hill.
Survivors: son, Bryer Cagle; mother, Joline "Jodie" Cagle; sister and brother-in-law, Robin and Jeff Long; nephews, Kenny and Marcus De Hart; aunts, Charlene Allison, Jean and John Law; uncles, Bruce and Wanda Hill, Don and Jeana Hill; special friends, Laura Slaughter and a host of friends and cousins.
Tom was a great and wonderful father, son, brother, and friend and will be so sadly missed by all who knew him.
Honorary Pallbearers: David Hill, Casey Whaley, Bruce Blitz, Vince Storm, Tom Kimble, Chris Hill, Steve and Gary Reagan, Shawn Maples, Kevin Sones.
Memorial Service 6 p.m. Friday At the New Hope Church of God, in Sevierville with Dr. Rich Liner officiating and eulogy by Don Hill. The Family will receive friends following the service at the church. Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville in charge of arrangements. VIOLA MARSHALL NEELY
Viola Marshall Neely, age 96 of Maryville passed away Wednesday evening, October 9, 2002, at Asbury Acres Health Care Center. Member of the First Baptist Church of Alcoa.
Preceded in death by husband, Ernest V. Neely.
Survivors: son and daughter-in-law, Dr. E. Robert and Patsy Neely of Sevierville; grandsons, David A. Neely of Johnson City, TN, E. Robert Neely II of North Carolina, P. Timothy Neely of Colorado; great-granddaughter, Margaret Grace Neely of Colorado; several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will meet at Grandview cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 12, 2002, for Graveside Service and Interment, Rev. Phillip Marshall officiating. At the family's request there will be no visitation at the Funeral Home. Arrangements by Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.
JAMES A. BARRETT
James A. Barrett, age 52 of Friendsville died Tuesday, October 8, 2002, at the family home. He was of the Baptist Faith. He was an Air Traffic Controller for the United States Air Force in the Vietnam War.
Survivors include former wife, Jana Barrett; son, Christopher Barrett of CA; daughter, April Barrett of CA; mother, Rita S. Miller; half brother, Barry Barrett of Houma, LA; sisters, Elyse Loope of Friendsville and Suzanne Daffron of Columbus, MS.

WILLIE FAYE DAVIS
Willie Faye Davis, age 59 of Maryville, passed away Monday, October 7, 2002, at her home. She was a member of Hillview Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her parents, Willie E. and Thelma Gideon Russell and infant brother, Royce Russell.
Survivors include: husband, Richard Davis of Maryville; sons and daughters-in-law, David A. and Robin Brogan, Richard M. and Lisa Brogan all of Maryville; 2 grandchildren; sisters, Zola Burns, Juanita Johnson both of Maryville, Elizabeth McNatt of Alabama, Mary Nelson, Gail Perry both of Maryville and Phyllis Chambers of Georgia; brother, Orville Russell of Georgia; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles D. Bailey officiating. Edith Katherine Garner Ferguson, age 78 of Friendsville passed away Monday afternoon, October 7, 2002, at the family home. Member of Fellowship Baptist Church.
Preceded in death by husband, Henry Milford Ferguson; sons, Horace Henry Ferguson, Ronald Ferguson, Wayne Ferguson; daughters, Juanita Michaels, Betty Ferguson; parents, Nelson and Gertrude Reno Garner; brother, Donald Garner; sister, Ann McGill.

LEONARD GAINES
Leonard Gaines, born to the late Samuel and Mattie Lee Gaines on November 12, 1938, in Alcoa, TN, departed this life on Monday, October 7, 2002, at Fort Sanders Medical Center. Leonard was a 1957 graduate of Charles M. Hall High School. He attended Tennessee State University. Leonard retired from the Alcoa Police Department with 30 years of service in 1993. He was one of the first Black police officers in Blount County. Later he went to work for the United States Marshall's Service in Knoxville, TN. He accepted Christ in his life at an early age and was a member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. He later joined Payne Avenue Baptist Church where he sang in the church choir and was involved in the youth activities.
He was preceded in death by parents, Samuel and Mattie Lee Gaines; wife, Margie R. Gains; son, Rodderick K. Gaines; brother, Ben W. Gaines; and sister, Gloria 'Deana' Clark.
He leaves to mourn his passing: sons, Christopher (June) Gaines of Alcoa, TN and Korey (Kimelisa) Gaines of Columbia, SC; brothers and sister-in-law, Clarence (Shirley) Gaines of Alcoa, Charles (Flora) Gaines of Alcoa, Samuel Gaines of Louisville; sister, Minnette Criner of Detroit, MI; sisters-in-law, Matilda Gaines of Sweetwater, Geraldine (Walt) Sudderth of Alcoa, Debbie Bronner of Knoxville; godparents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas (Eldora) Brazel; devoted grandson, Jonathan A. Gaines; 10 grandchildren; devoted and special friends, Sandra Hudson and Denise Capshaw; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 11, 2002, from 1-1:30 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 1:30 p.m. at Payne Avenue Baptist Church. Rev. Richard Brown officiating. Interment in Sherwood Memorial Gardens.

NELL PICKARD NOWLIN HABERLEY
Nell Pickard Nowlin Haberley, age 89, passed away Tuesday morning, October 8, 2002, at U.T. Hospital. She was born July 26, 1913, in Columbia, Tennessee.
Member of Fountain City Presbyterian Church for fifty-six years, graduate of University of Tennessee in 1936.
Survived by loving husband of 64 years, Miles W. Haberley, Sr.; daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Glen Knable, Maryville; son, Miles W. Haberley, Jr.; grandchildren, David Knable, Maryville, Karen Knable Thomas, Nashville; great-grandchildren, Lauren and Kathryn Thomas, Makayla Knable.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Brandon Theological Student Loan Fund c/o of Fountain City Presbyterian Church, 500 Hotel Ave., Knoxville, TN 37918.
Memorial service will be 7:30 p.m. Friday, Fountain City Presbyterian Church, Dr. William Woolsworth and Rev. Max Reddick officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following service at the church.

THOMAS POWELL
Thomas Powell, age 90 of Alcoa passed away Monday at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was retired from ALCOA and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by parents, Claborn and Lela Powell and wife Hildred Powell.
Survivors include two brothers, Marvin Powell of Springlake, N.C., Millard Powell of Pittsburgh, PA; one sister, Leila Mae Carter of Ellaville, GA; three sisters-in-law, Lou Willie Powell of Forsyth, GA, Doris Powell of Ocala, FL, and Juilette Powell of Fayetteville, NC; several nieces, nephews to include James Powell who took care of his uncle until the end.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 10, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, Alcoa with Rev. Ralph Miller, Jr. officiating. Entombment to follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service. The remains may be viewed after noon Wednesday at Foothills Funeral Home, Maryville.
HAZEL WELCH SWANSON
Hazel Welch Swanson, age 79 of Maryville passed away Monday afternoon, October 7, 2002, at Colonial Hills Nursing Center. Member of Citico Baptist Church in Monroe Co. preceded in death by husband, Roy Swanson; daughter, Margaret Ann Lefler; brothers and sisters.
Survivors: daughter, Dorothy Taylor of Augusta, Georgia; son, Gordon Irwin of Rockwall, Texas; 3 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; sisters, Garnet Rose of Maryville, Ruby Patton of Maryville, Christine Hall of Tellico Plains, Nona Welch of Maryville; brother, Grady Welch of Rockford; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 10, 2002, Citico Baptist Church in Monroe Co. Rev. Alvin Patton, Rev. James Patton officiating. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home.
VERNON CHARLES TURNER
Vernon Charles Turner, age 87, went to be with his Lord while sleeping Sunday night. This was his prayer and God gracefully granted his wishes. He became a member of Monte Vista Baptist Church after moving to Tennessee in 1993. He was an avid aviation fan during his entire life. He obtained his flying permit at the age of fourteen!. He was active with the Braintree Warriors Drum & Bugle Corps while his son Al was in high school. Mr. Turner was also active with the Gideons in his later years in Plymouth, Massachusetts.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Emma in 1984; sister, Margie Murphy; brothers, Clyde (Buster) Turner and Leslie (Bud) Turner.
Survivors: son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Marilyn Turner of Maryville; granddaughter, Rebecca Turner of Denton, Texas; granddaughter and husband, Rachel and Danny Rosenburg of Philadelphia, PA; sister, Chemence Locke of Hanson, MA; also many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.
Memorial service will be held 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 9, 2002 at Monte Vista Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Mantooth officiating. Remains will be buried in Northville Cemetery, East Bridgewater, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
