CHARLES `CHUCK' WILLIAM GRUBBS III
Charles (Chuck) William Grubbs III, age 31, of Knoxville passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2002 at the U.T. Hospital. He was a member of the Baptist Faith and an honorary police officer with the Knox Co. Sheriff's Department. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles and Ethel Newcomb.
Chuck is survived by his parents, Charles William Grubbs Jr. and Brenda Newcomb Grubbs of Knoxville; grandparents, Charles and Lucille Grubbs of Knoxville; 1 brother, Chip Grubbs and wife Leona of Louisville, TN; aunts, H.E. and Barbara Bittle of Knoxville, George and Pat Paine of Louisville, Steve and Vicki Pilkay, Billy and Sherrie Denton, Sam and Barbara Cupp, and Neil and Anne Lentz all of Knoxville; special uncle, Jeff Grubbs of Knoxville; very special nephew, Cole Walker Grubbs; special cousins, Danny, Kim, and Daniel Overbey, Bobby, Kelly, Keaton, and Charley Gibson; special friends, Knox Co. police officers, Jim Wright, Lt. Harry Carroll, and Sharon Massengil. A very special thanks to PICU nurses and receptionist at U.T. and Dr. Paul Banik with the Knoxville Pulmonary Group.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. til 8 p.m. on Friday with the service to follow at 8 p.m. at the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. J.D. Nuchols will officiate. Burial will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, at the Byrds Chapel cemetery on Yarnell Rd. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery at 10:45. Chuck was an honorary Knox Co. police officer and had special interest in making people laugh. He loved all super heroes and loved to watch movies, especially Scoobie Doo. He will be greatly missed. MAYNARD A. INGRAM
Maynard A. Ingram, age 92, formerly of Maryville, passed away April 26, 2002 in Diablo, CA. Maynard had lived in Maryville nearly 30 years before moving to an assisted living facility near his daughter in California in 1996. He had been a member of First United Methodist Church, Maryville Kiwanis Club, Green Meadow Country Club and was active with the United Way. He was a native of Nelsonville, Ohio and graduated from Office Training School, Columbus, Ohio.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Pose (Islo); daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Jim Swan of Prescott, AZ; daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Bruce Miller of Diablo, CA; son William Ingram of Richmond, CA; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Paul Snider and wife Betty of Maryville. Upon retirement after a career of more than 30 years with the dining car division of the Pennsylvania Railroad, he and Pose selected Maryville as their place for retirement. Maynard became a 'chamber of commerce' advocate for Maryville and East Tennessee and considered it the most beautiful location in the country. He cherished the drives he and Pose took in the Smokies and did not mind becoming lost as they explored different areas. No one was a stranger to Maynard. He was a congenial greeter for Kiwanis and always saw to it that all members were well cared for at their meetings. He leaves many friends in this area.
KELVIA D. `SNOOK' KENNEDY
Kelvia D. "Snook" Kennedy, age 87 of Alcoa, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Alcoa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. "Mule" Kennedy.
Survivors include: son, Bill Kennedy of Alcoa; daughters, Norma Jean Whitley of Friendsville, Janet Carol Caylor of Maryville; grandchildren, Konni Marion, Patti Law, Dale Whitley, Michael Caylor, Misti Dawn Caylor, Alyson Kennedy and Adam Kennedy; great-grandchildren, Rachel and Rebekah Law, Wesley and Riley Marion, Jud Michael Caylor, Chloe and Cosmo Barry and Reagan and Hannah Whitley; sister, Willie Dodd of Alcoa; several nieces and nephews.

KATE LUCILLE MORGAN
Kate Lucille Morgan, age 86 of Alcoa, died Tuesday, April 30, 2002 at Fairpark Healthcare Center. She was a member of Everett Hills Baptist Church.
Preceded in death by: father, John P. Fritts; mother, Susan Hughes Fritts; husband, Russell Oscar Morgan; daughters, Alice and Ruth Morgan; grandchildren, David and Joe Mogridge, Skippy Morgan.
Survivors include: sons, Lloyd Morgan of Murfreesboro, Dr. Carl Morgan and wife Shiela of New Mexico, George Hubert Morgan of Maryville; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great- great-grandchildren; special friend, Lennie Powell and many other friends.
Funeral service will be at 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 3, 2002, Trinity Chapel, Smith Mortuary with Rev. John Franklin officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 4, 2002 at Rocky Branch Missionary Baptist Church cemetery for the interment with Dr. Allen Raines officiating. LILIAN NELLE MOORE NICHOLS
Mrs. Lilian Nelle Moore Nichols, age 83, died Tuesday, April 30, 2002 at the Meadows nursing facility in Nashville following an extended battle with Parkinson's disease. She was a retired English and Reading teacher at Greeneville High School and served the Greene County and Greeneville City school systems from 1956 through 1973. She highly valued education and creative ideas and brought an imaginative flair to her teaching, resulting in a long-term following of students who prized her personal interest in their intellectual development. She herself graduated from Maryville High School in 1938 and received her Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Arts from Maryville College in 1942 and her Masters in English and Reading from ETSU in 1969.
Over the decades Lilian pursued many interests by taking courses at Tusculum College and the University of Tennessee. In later years she and her husband, the late Beryl C. Nichols, enjoyed homes in both Greeneville and Maryville, and she became an accomplished landscape and still-life painter, as well as a skilled potter and ceramicist. She shared her husband's penchant for beautiful flowers and gardening, and their home in Maryville, with its collection of unusual day-lilies, was featured on Maryville's Dogwood Trail.
The family will receive friends at the Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home in Greeneville from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 4 at 10 a.m. at the Doughty-Stevens Chapel with the Reverend Jamie Lively of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be at the Andrew Johnson National cemetery on Monument Hill on Monday, May 6. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Lilian was preceded in death by her husband, Beryl, and is survived by her four children: daughters, Sarah Bachman Nichols of Nashville, Kathryn Lee Nichols and husband, Mark Brombaugh of Norwalk CT; sons, Charles Richard Nichols and wife, Norma Worth of Atlanta and Beryl Clay Nichols, Jr. and wife Marta Atkinson of Jasper, AL; three brothers, Charles B. Moore Jr. of Socorro, NM, Richard M. Moore of El Paso IL and Robert Moore of Washburn, TN; grandchildren, Nathan Houser and his wife Christa of Pittsburgh, Benjamin Houser of Hot Springs, NC, Joel Houser of Chattanooga, Ezekiel Nichols of Knoxville, and Clayton Nichols of Jasper, AL. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, friends may donate to the Greeneville Cumberland Presbyterian Church Memorial fund, 201 N. Main St.
BARNEY BROOKS PATTON
Barney Brooks Patton, age 89 of Maryville, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2002, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a member and former Deacon of New Providence Presbyterian Church. He was an avid baseball player, fan and sportsman. He worked at the Sylvania Plant in Fredericksburg, VA before joining ALCOA. He retired from ALCOA with over 37 years of service and was a member of the ALCOA 25 Year Service Club.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Dianne Patton Galloway; his father, Dr. Henry W. Patton; his mother, Sadie Cowley Patton; 3 brothers and one sister.
Survivors include: his wife, Joyce Messer Patton; son and daughter-in-law, Neil and Laura Patton of Flint Hill, VA; son, James B. Patton of Maryville; grandchildren, Eric and Sandy Patton, of Linden, VA, Lisa and Thomas Thornton of Lake Orion, MI, Byron III and Mollie Galloway of Woodbridge, VA; great-granddaughters, Kimberly Ann Thornton, Sarah Beth Thornton, and Catherine Grace Galloway; sister, Ferrell Gallahan of Fredericksburg, VA; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Philip Bembower officiating. The interment will follow in Clarks Grove Cemetery. LONG, SR., DONALD JOE, 71, Maryville, died Saturday, April 27, in Maryville. He retired from Manufacturing Products Inc. in Ferndale, Mich., where he was a electrician supervisor.
He is survived by sons, Ronald Lee Long of Andrews, N.C. and Donald J. Long Jr. of Sterling Heights, Mich.; daughters, Gail Brown of Andrews, N.C., Debra 'Pixie' Jones of Northville, Mich., and Karen Gauiter of Hazel Park, Mich.; 12 grandchildren; 11 great- grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Violet Baptist Church in Murphy, N.C. Burial was in the Violet Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends Tuesday at the Townson Rose Funeral Home in Murphy, N.C.

Ronald C. Manges, age 90 of Maryville, passed away Saturday, October 12, 2002 at the family home. Member of First United Methodist Church of Maryville, and was a choir director at a number of Churches in Blount County over the years, retired from ALCOA with 42 years of service and a member of the 25 year club. preceded in death by parents, Duff Gerard and Blanche Manges, four sisters including Garnet Manges, brother, Gerald Manges and great-grandson, Ben Manges.
Survivors, wife of 66 years, Ruth McReynolds Manges; daughter, Patricia Cotton of Yuma, Arizona; son and daughter-in-law, Vic and Debbie Manges of Maryville; grandchildren and spouses, John and Ruth Olin of Yuma, Arizona; Mary and Kevin Cramp of Adele, Iowa; Pam and J.J. JEFFREY ALAN MCCRACKEN
Jeffrey Alan McCracken, age 44 of Maryville, died Friday, October 11, 2002 at the family home. Jeff has been a dedicated and active member of Restoration International Outreach Church working in both the school and jail ministries. He has been surrounded throughout his battle with cancer by the love and caring of his family and his many friends. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include: Son, Benjamin Jacob McCracken of Myakka City, FL; Daughters, Candice Marie McCracken and Hosanna Lael McCracken both of Myakka City, FL; Parents, Richard & Barbara McCracken of Maryville; Sister, Leslie Jean McCracken of Kenmore, WA. Throughout his struggle, his faith in God has remained strong and has been an inspiration to all.

Horace "Lynn" Tucker Sr., age 61 of Maryville passed away Saturday, October 12, 2002 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was the son of the late Horace and Maggie Tucker. He was a member of Maryville Baptist Tabernacle, and attended Ridgeview Baptist Church. He was an employee of The University of Tennessee for 37 years. Lynn was liked and loved by everyone he met and will be greatly missed. preceded in death by first wife, Shirley; son, Buck; father-in-law, Rev. James A. Payne.
