GERALDINE L. CROSS
Geraldine L. Cross, age 88 of Maryville, died Tuesday, January 8, 2002, at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class, she was a 50 Year Member of the Order of the Eastern Star and has worked in the shoe business for years. She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Cross; parents, James R. and Martha Elizabeth White Bailes; sisters, Eva, and Mary Ellen; brothers, James Ralph, Walter, Howard, H. Kenneth, Lynn, Carl R. and H.L.
Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Jim Wilkerson; three special grandsons, Jimmy and wife Mari, Ted and Kurt; 2 great-grandchildren, Stewart and Hunter Wilkerson; one sister, Eleanor Everett; two brothers, Frank 'Red' Bailes and wife Virginia, Robert W. Bailes and wife Barbara; sister-in-law, Marcene Bailes; several nieces and nephews; special friend, Gladys McKinsey.
Funeral services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Fairview United Methodist Church with Dr. Jerry Russell and Dr. James Bailes officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Sherwood Memorial Gardens for the interment service. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Thursday at the church. Grandsons, great-grandson, nephew, Robbie Bailes and great nephew, Greg Porter will serve as pallbearers.
The family suggests that memorials be made to the Organ Fund at Fairview United Methodist Church, 2505 Old Niles Ferry Road, Maryville, TN 37803.

ELSIE MAE GROW
Elsie Mae Grow, age 80 of Maryville died Tuesday, January 8, 2002 at her home. She was a member of Piney Level Baptist Church and was a Licensed Vocational Nurse. preceded in death by: parents, Jake and Sarah Whitehead; brother, Jake Clyde Whitehead; sister, Dorothy Dockter.
Survivors include: husband of 64 years, Harold Grow; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Murray Cox of Maryville; grandchildren, Brian David Cox and Clay Douglas Cox and wife, Rachael; great-granddaughter, Chelsea Lynn Cox; sisters and brothers-in-law, Wilma Imogene and Ollie Chambers of FL, Billie June and Martin Wilds of FL; brother-in-law, Albert Dockter of Alcoa.
Funeral service will be at 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 11, 2002 in the Trinity Chapel of Smith Mortuary with Rev. George Macht of Piney Level Baptist Church officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 12, 2002 at Grandview cemetery for the interment. Friends may call at their convenience after 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 10, 2002 at Smith Mortuary. Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 11, 2002, Trinity Chapel, Smith Mortuary, Maryville, 865-983-1000.

LORA EMOGENE (MS. BYE) (EMMA) KELLOGG MEANS
Lora Emogene (Ms. Bye) (Emma) Kellogg Means of Maryville died Sunday, January 6, 2002 at Home Away from Home. She was a member of Maryville Church of God. She is preceded in death by husband, John E. Means; parents, John Thomas and Pearl Scudder Kellogg; sisters, Mattie Henry, Gladys Langston and Annie Thompson; brothers, William Myron (Stone),
Howell Alexander and John Broughton Jr. Kellogg.
She is survived by a devoted daughter, Virginia Means Beasley; devoted granddaughters, Denise (Dwayne) Prince and Shawnte' Beasley of Maryville; devoted grandson, Courtney (Lori) Rainer of Silver Springs, MD; five great-grandchildren, Cheri (Michael) Baker, Whitney and Tiffany Prince, Lauren and Chane Rainer; one great-great-granddaughter, Piper L. Baker; one sister, Laura Pearl McMahan of Louisville; a devoted cousin, Lucy B. Patrick; many nieces and nephews to include special niece, Edith Snapp.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 11 at 1:30 p.m. at Maryville Church of God with the funeral services to follow at 2:00 p.m. with Elder Ralph Lee officiating. Interment at Grandview Cemetery.

STANLEY DAVID PICKENS
Stanley David Pickens, age 56 of Tallassee passed away Thursday, January 3, 2002.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hubert Stanley Pickens; mother, Alva Lee Pickens Kirkpatrick; brother, Lester Lee Pickens; sister, Evelyn Ann Myers.
Survived by sons: Kevin Pickens, Johnny Pickens; daughter, Debbie Leann Pickens Isom; several grandchildren; brothers, Andy Pickens, David Pickens and Donald Bradburn; sisters, Pam Whitehead and Pat Tuck; several nieces, nephews and friends also survive.
Mr. Pickens will be missed by the community. Family received friends Sunday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. with services that followed in Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Mike Ridenour officiated. Mr. Pickens was buried at Calderwood Methodist cemetery following service. Memorial Funeral Home of Maryville was in charge of arrangements. 983-2050.

Robert H. Bean, Sr., age 71, of Maryville, passed away at his home January 9, 2002. He was a retired printer, served in United States Army and was a good friend and neighbor.

ANDRE' EDWARD BROWN
Andre' Edward Brown. Entered the Gates of Heaven at U.T. Medical Center Jan. 7, 2002. He was a member of Peace and Goodwill M.B. Church. He was due to graduate from A.E. High School this June. He was a sweet and humble spirit. A loving and devoted son to his mother. preceded in death by grandparents, Joe Brown and Georgia Clinkscale.
He leaves to cherish his memory: mother, Barbara Lynn (John) Williams; father, Arnold Brown; brothers, Vladimie Brown and Christopher Bowerman; sister, Tosha Brown; grandmother, Mae Lee Lenoir; grandfather, Robert 'Bobbie' Peter; aunts, Patricia (Jack) Chesney, Deloris (Jerry) Battle, Charlotte (David) Holt, Ethel (James) Styles; uncles, Anthony (Stephanie) Lenoir, Edward Lenoir, Antonio Whatley, James Brown, Elder Larry (Barbara) Brown, George (Anita) Brown, Eddie (Helen) Brown; a host of stepsisters and brothers to include, Travis and Tony Gipson; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends, to include special friend, Peggy Green.
The family will receive friends 1:30 to 2 p.m. Sat., Jan. 12, 2002 with services to follow at Jarnigan & Sons with friends to call at: 1821 N. Sixth Ave, Knoxville. Pastor Vernica Simpson and Rev. John Jordan officiating. Body can be viewed after 4:00 Friday.

LILA ESTELLA HICKMAN DUNCAN
Lila Estella Hickman Duncan, age 83 of Rockford passed away Monday morning, January 7, 2002 at Blount Memorial Hospital. preceded in death by son, Jackie Duncan; parents, Lloyd and Ellen Hickman; sister, Golena Blair; brothers, John Hickman and Robert Hickman.
Survivors: husband, Robert 'Bob' Duncan; sons and daughters-in-law, Carl and Shirley Duncan, Vernon and Margie Duncan all of Rockford, Lloyd Duncan of Maryville; daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Kenneth Cottrell of Walland, Judy and Avery Merriman of Maryville; 14 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, L. A. and Martha Hickman of Maryville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth Caldwell of Maryville, Bernice and Ray Stipe of Kentucky, Virginia Knoten of Memphis; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service 8:00 p.m. Wednesday January 9, 2002 Miller Funeral Home Magnolia Chapel, Rev. Billy Moore, Rev. Gerald Jones officiating. Family and friends will meet at Clark's Grove cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Thursday for the interment service. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.

WILLIE REECE 'BILL' PIERCE
Willie Reece 'Bill' Pierce, age 85 of Walland, died Tuesday, January 8, 2002, at Colonial Hills Nursing Home. She was a member of Knob Creek Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. 'Bob' Pierce.
Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, James E. 'Jim' and Marie Pierce of Walland; son, Wayne Pierce of Atlanta, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Eugene McCammon of Knoxville; granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Melinda and Michael Kelley of Walland, TN, Jama and Elton Proffitt of Maryville; grandson, Jimmy Pierce of Walland; great-grandchildren, Lucas Kelley and Hayden Proffitt; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Ruth Bryant, Gladys Self and Clara Wilburn.
Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Lawhorn officiating. Family and friends will meet at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Knob Creek Baptist Church cemetery for the interment service. The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville.

MULLANEY, PETER R., 63, Maryville, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002 at Blount Memorial Hospital. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.

Ruth Ann Bailey Burke
Ruth Ann Bailey Burke, age 77 of Coral Gables, Florida passed away Saturday, April 6, 2002 at her home in Florida. She was born in Tazewell, Virginia, the daughter of the late John and Hattie Jones Bailey. She graduated with honors from Emory and Henry College, Virginia, and Northwestern University, Chicago. She met her husband, the Reverend Elwyn Reed Burke at Northwestern and after pastorates in Wisconsin, Virginia, and Florida as members of the Methodist Church, they answered a call to help establish Christian churches in Venezuela. When their second child was to be born, because of poor medical conditions, Mrs. Burke came to Maryville to the home of her sister, Mrs. Nell Moore and family, to await the arrival of their second daughter. They returned to Venezuela to finish their assignment and returned to the Florida Conference where Rev. Burke held pastorates until retirement. The Burkes were frequent visitors to Maryville when her mother was a resident at Asbury Acres.
She is survived by her husband, Rev. Elwyn Reed Burke; daughters, Mary Elizabeth Tillett and Rev. Dr. Marta Jan Burke; grandchildren, Matthew and Sara Tillett, all of Coral Gables, FL; brother, The Rev. Ray Bailey, of Kansas; sister, Mrs. Nell Moore, of Maryville.
A memorial service is planned at the Coral Gables United Methodist Church at a later date.

Rev. James Allen Hall, age 92 of Maryville passed away Saturday evening, April 6, 2002 at the family home. Member of Gospel Temple Baptist Church. Veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II. Retired from ALCOA and a member of the 25 Year Club.
Preceded in death by parents, Walter Frank and Rose Jones Hall; sister, Lucille; brothers, Harvey, Bonnie, Robert, Charles Hall Jr.; grandson, Michael Bryant; great grandson, Chad Bishop.
Survivors: wife, Selma Whitehead Hall; daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Herman Pilkington of Maryville, Stella and Henry Russell of Knoxville, Linda and Ronnie Burns of Seymour, Mary Jane and Junior Bishop of Maryville, Wanda Faye Arden of Maryville, Joyce and Grayson Garrett of Maryville; 18 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; sisters, Ethel Swaney of Maryville, Audie Hall of Maryville; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 8, 2002 Miller Funeral Home Magnolia Chapel, Rev. Alfred Whitehead, Rev. Harold Whitehead, Rev. Will Whitehead officiating. Family and friends will meet at Chilhowee Primitive Baptist cemetery 'Red Top' at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon for the interment with military honors provided by the East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.

John Henry Jones, age 88 of Knoxville, died Thursday, April 4, 2002, at Williamsburg Villas in Knoxville. He was a member of Tyner United Methodist Church in Chattanooga, he was retired from Concrete Forms, was a 50+ year member of the Carpenters Union Local #74 in Chattanooga. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Payne Jones; his parents, Marshall and Florence Jones; sister, Rachel Modena; brothers, Hugh Jones, Clyde Jones and Gordon Jones.

Sara S. Dunbar, age 75 of Maryville passed away Tuesday morning April 2, 2002 at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Maryville. preceded in death by parents, Bill and Myrtice Spencer; husband, Calvin Dunbar.

Lucy M. Dunn, age 97 of Townsend, originally from New Orleans, LA, died Monday, April 1, 2002 at Asbury Acres Healthcare Center.

MARGIE MODEAN SPARKS CHAPMAN

Margie Modean Sparks Chapman, , age 97 of Maryville passed away peacefully on March 30th 2002 at her home. She was the oldest surviving child of John and Elizabeth Shular Sparks. She was born August 3rd, 1904 in Cades Cove, Blount County Tn.
She was preceded in death by her husband Henry Chapman; sons, Cleatis, Clayton, Clinton, Claude, and Clyde; brothers Dewey Sparks, and George "Dutch" Sparks; sisters Maybelle Sparks Craig and Mary Sparks Palmer.
She is survived by her daughter, Janie Chapman; and son, Carmel "Brother" Chapman; grandchildren, Cathy McNeil of Sevierville, Linda Vaughn of Knoxville, David Chapman, Jan Hickman, Lisa Misosky, Lynn Smart, all of Maryville, Warren Chapman, Diane Chapman, and Sam Chapman all of Texas; sister Louise Sparks Abbott; brothers, William "Tige" Sparks, Roy Sparks, and Lester Sparks. She has 10 great grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be at 8:00 p.m. Monday with Rev. Randy Cruze officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
The family and friends will meet at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday April 2, 2002 at Mountain View cemetery in Six Mile for the interment service.
