Rex Frye, age 77, of Maryville, passed away Saturday morning, January 12, 2002, at Colonial Hills Nursing Center. Veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II, having received the Purple Heart Award. preceded in death by parents: William Wade and Nancy Jane Strickland Frye; sisters, Noretta Taylor, Velmarie Frye; brothers, William Elmer Frye, Floyd Justice Frye, Frank Frye.
Survivors: wife, Mary I. Anderson Frye; daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Jim Spoolstra of Illinois; son and daugher-in-law, Benford and Peggy Frye of Indiana; son, Victor Frye of Indiana; grandchildren, Kimberly, Aaron, Trent Spoolstra, Beverly Frye Fritz, Alan Frye, Rachael Frye, Paul Keown; great-grandchildren, Megan Fritz, Alyssa Velez; sisters, Eliza Moore of Maryville, Flo McLeod of Oregon, Wanda Taylor of Maryville, Shirley Sutherland of Laverne, TN; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 14, 2002, Miller Funeral Home Magnolia Chapel, Rev. Gene Gann officiating. Interment to follow at Chilhowee View Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. till 11:00 a.m. Monday at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.
IRMA AUGUSTINE GUTHRIE
Irma Augustine Guthrie, age 87, of Maryville, formerly of Uniontown, Pennsylvania, died Friday, January 11, 2002, at Colonial Hills Nursing Home. Irma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend and will be truly missed by all. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Ewing B. Guthrie; grandchildren, Charles E. Gorley, Patricia Hope Kovalic; 4 brothers; 3 sisters; parents, Dawson and Leah Retta Newcomer Augustine.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Larry Gorley of Maryville; daughter, Dianne Johnson of Maryville; grandchildren, Cheryl Wenzel and husband, Mark Wenzel of Liberty, MO, Jill Kovalic and fiance, Tim Litten of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Jim and wife, Martha Gorley of Maryville, TN; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Gorley and Kristen Wenzel; several special nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation or the Alzheimer Association. Rev. R. Howard Hamlin, age 61, of Maryville, died peacefully Thursday, January 10, 2002, at his home. He was involved in the ministry, music and pastoring for many years. He was known for his love for people and infectious laughter and was full of joy and happiness.
Survivors include: wife of 41 years, Sharon Hamlin; son, Logan Taylor Hamlin of Maryville; son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Darlene Hamlin of IN; daughters and son-in-law, Shana Janeece and Tommy Montague of Maryville and Kristin Jill Hamlin and fiance, Mike Compton of Lenoir City, TN; grandchildren, Ashytn, Nathan, Tabitha, Dillon, Sadie; mother, Iva Hamlin of IN; brothers and sisters, Jim Hamlin of AL, Gloria Higgins of WV, Debbie Kueber of IN, Fred Hamlin of IN.

PAUL M. LEDBETTER
Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Paul M. Ledbetter, age 71, of Lenoir City, born in Walland, TN, died Friday, January 11, 2002, at his home. He was devoted to his family. He was drafted in 1951 and served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War with the U.S. Army. preceded in death by parents, Cal and Annie Shields Ledbetter; brothers, Erwin, Ernest, Roy, Leonard, Toye and Otis Ledbetter; sister, Kate Jones.
Survivors include wife, Mary E. Ledbetter; sons, Paul Matthew Ledbetter, Jr. of Covington, GA, Michael Howard Ledbetter of Maryville; daughters, Rebecca MacKenzie and Mary K. McDonald both of Maryville; grandchildren, Lora Elizabeth Greene, Jennifer A. Mills, Ashley Watson, Lisa Ledbetter, Hunter McDonald, Sarah and Leannah Ledbetter, Aengus McKenzie; sister, Ruby Davis of Maryville; and beloved nieces and nephews.

Joyce Lee, age 70, of Maryville, was pronounced dead Friday, January 11, 2002, at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eddie and Pearl Myers and aunt, Johnnie Thomas.
Survivors include her daughter, Jennifer Nan Lee of Morgantown, W.Va.; former husband, Eugene Lee of Parkersburg, W.Va.; cousin and spouse, Mary and Don McClanahan of Walland; several other cousins and friends.

Carl Richard Teffeteller, age 67, of Rockford, died Saturday, January 12, 2002, at Ft. Sanders Regional Hospital. He is preceded in death by his parents, Pren and Hazel Arwood Teffeteller; brother, George Teffeteller.
He is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Richard Teffeteller, Jim and Sandra Teffeteller; brother, Pren Teffeteller; friend, Juanita Gribble; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild all of Rockford.
Funeral services will be at 8:00 p.m., Sunday at Memorial Funeral Home in Maryville with Rev. David Arwood Jr. officiating. Robert H. Bean, Sr., age 71, of Maryville, passed away at his home January 9, 2002. He was a retired printer, served in United States Army and was a good friend and neighbor.
Survivors include son, Robert H. Bean Jr. of Festus, MO; Craig Bean and wife, Sarah of Greenback, TN; sister, Linda Anderson and husband, Nick of Ione, WA; grandchildren, Cortny and Adam Bean of Knoxville; Ethan Bean of Maryville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lt. Col. Harry Dickenson, age 95, of Walland, formerly of Olympia, WA, died Thursday, January 10, 2002, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He served in the United States Army 3rd Division during World War II. preceded in death by: wife, Mary Margaret Dickenson; father and mother, Archie and Minnie Dickenson of Lafollette, TN; brothers, Roy, Ed, and Willis Dickenson.
Survivors include: brother, Arch Dixon of Maryville; nephews, Paul and Clarence Dickenson of Maryville, Jason Dixon of Maryville and niece, Wilma Jean Yoakum of Monroe, MI; great-nephews, Larry, Terry and Eddie Dickenson of Maryville; great-niece, Ginger Spradlin of Maryville and several great-great-nieces.

THELMA MARTIN EMERT
Thelma Martin Emert, age 90, of Maryville, died Thursday, January 10, 2002, at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was born and lived most of her life at 511 High Street, Maryville. She was a member of Maryville First Baptist Church and was retired from Proffitt's after 45 years of service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley B. Emert; parents, Samuel G. and Nina Barr Martin; and brother, William L. Martin.
Survivors include her sister-in-law, Lorraine Martin Wettergreen of Maryville; niece, Cynthia Fish of Louisville; nephew, William L. Martin Jr. of Hickory, NC.

KARA DILLON `K.D.' GARLAND
Kara Dillon 'K.D.' Garland, age 67, of Robbinsville, N.C., passed away Friday, January 11, 2002, at Haywood Regional Medical Center in Waynesville, NC. He was a native of Blount Co. TN, and the son of the late James Dillon and Vannie Cooper Garland. He was retired after serving 20 as a Master Sergeant in the Special Forces for the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Stone Garland; sons, Roy Garland, Sidney Garland both of Fayetteville, NC, Brian Jones of Las Vegas, NV; daughters, Laura Lynn Flanary of Portland, OR, Patricia Garland of CO, Brenda Jones of Las Vegas, NV; sisters, Josephine Brock of Loxahatchee, FL and Nahalia Williams of Robbinsville. He has 3 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 13, 2002, at the Townson-Smith Chapel. The Reverend Larry Grindstaff will officiate. Burial will be in the Breadlove Cemetery. Margaret Ann Murr, age 68, of 5194 Trigonia Rd., Greenback, passed away 6:15 p.m., Thursday, January 10, 2002, at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Ctr. after a long bout with cancer.
Survivors include: husband, Garlin Murr; daughters, Shirly Huey, Sheffield, Ala., Brenda Steele, Maryville; sons, Bill Murr, Maysfield, Ky., Arnell Murr, Dale Murr, both of Greenback; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Dotson, Greenback; several other relatives and friends.

Terry L. (Rocky) Cochran, age 57 of Maryville died Wednesday, January 9, 2002 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. He served in the United States Air Force, was a member of the American Legion, was of the Baptist Faith, and employed by Ameri Steel. preceded in death by: Garvey and Minnie Cochran.
