Hayden 'Shorty' Scarbrough, age 75 of Maryville died Friday, September 21, 2001 at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lola Scarbrough; brothers, Martin, Abe, Leonard, Woodrow, and Bill Scarbrough; grandson, Joshua Eugene Scarbrough.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Scarbrough; sons and daughters-in-law, James and Teresa Scarbrough of Arkansas, Albert and Heather Scarbrough of Virginia; son, Kenneth Scarbrough of Maryville; daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Carl Reneau of Rockford; 14 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Cleve and Hazel Scarbrough of Maryville, Paul and Patsy Scarbrough of Florida; sister, Lennie Moss of Maryville; uncle, L.D. Randolph and wife Trula of Sparta, TN; several nieces and nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Darryl Tripp officiating. The interment followed in Forest Hill Cemetery.
The family received friends Sunday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Blount Hospice 1095 E. Lamar Alexander Pkwy. Maryville, TN 37804.

MARY ELIZABETH KYKER SAUNDERS
Mary Elizabeth Kyker Saunders, age 90 of Knoxville died Saturday, September 22, 2001 at Asbury Acres Nursing Home. She was a member of Churchwell Avenue Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Deward Murphy, Arnold Roberts and Edward Saunders; parents, Arthur and Lula Bowers Kyker; brother, Wilmer Kyker and a sister, Jamie Ruth Ailey.
Survivors include her sister, Marjorie Kyker of Sevierville; brother-in-law, Earl Ailey and wife George of Knoxville; nieces, Emily Whitehead of Sevierville, Jane Barham of Maryville, Madge Sandidge of Lebanon, Ann Faulkner of Florida; nephews, Mike and David Ailey both of Sevierville; several great-nieces and great nephews.
Family and friends will assemble at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 25, 2001 at Greenwood cemetery with Rev. Bob Hayes officiating. Friends may call at their convenience after 2:00 p.m. Monday at Smith Mortuary, Maryville. 865-983-1000.

BILLY RAY WALKER JR.
Billy Ray Walker Jr., age 40 of Maryville died unexpectedly Saturday, September 22, 2001.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Alvin and Ocie Crowder Walker, Robert Barker Jr.; aunt, Paulette Tipton.
He is survived by his parents, Billy Ray and Margaret Barker Walker Sr. of Maryville; his sisters and brother-in-law, Teresa and Donald Headrick of Walland, Patricia (Pat) Murphy of Friendsville; brother, Alvin Lee Walker of Maryville; grandmother, Ruth Lawson of Maryville; several aunts and uncles; two nieces and six nephews.
Funeral services will be at 8:00 p.m. Monday at Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Gilliland and Rev. Don Headrick officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The family and friends will meet at the funeral home 10:30 Tuesday to proceed to Laurel Bank cemetery for an 11:00 a.m. graveside service. Memorial Funeral Home 983-2050.

Bobie D. Cooper, age 64 of Happy Valley (Blount County), passed away Thursday, September 20, 2001 at Maryville Health Care Center. Retired from L.T.V. Steel Company in Chicago, Illinois. preceded in death by grandparents, Fate and Margaret Lail Cooper and Jessee and Ella Payne Beasley; mother, Cora Mae Beasley Cooper; and nephew, Donnie Cooper.
Survivors: father, Walter Lee Cooper of Happy Valley; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Mary Cooper of Maryville; nephew, David Cooper of Maryville; nieces, Sheree Moody of Friendsville, Kay Carpenter of Happy Valley, Kathy Cooper of Walland and Mary Angel Cooper of Maryville. Uncle, Ellis Cooper of Maryville; aunts, Maxine Sadderfield of Maryville, Irene Shook of Tallassee. Several great nieces and nephews.
Funeral service 8:00 p.m. Sunday, September 23, 2001 at Miller Funeral Home Magnolia Chapel, Rev. Harry Snyder officiating. Interment service 10:00 a.m. Monday, at Happy Valley Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.

ELIZABETH FERN MCCAIN HESTER
Elizabeth Fern McCain Hester, age 77 of Alcoa, died Thursday, September 20, 2001, at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Alcoa First Baptist Church where she had served as a librarian for over 30 years.
Survivors include: husband, T.O. Hester; sons and daughters-in-law, Ricke and Pam Hester, Jed and Joy Hester; daughter and son-in-law, Tessa and Randy Swinehart; grandchildren, Logan and Grayson Hester, Luke Hester, Chad Swinehart and Tori Swinehart; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Eloise McCain; sister, Hildred Porter.
Funeral services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Sunday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Richard Holden officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sherwood Memorial Gardens for the Interment service. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Sunday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville. ARTHUR H. LAW
Arthur H. Law, age 56 of Rockford, passed away Thursday, September 20, 2001 at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Ruby Law. Arthur was a very loving and devoted husband, daddy and papaw.
Survivors include his loving wife, Betty Law; daughter, Beverly Law; daughters and sons-in-law, Kristi and Gary Williamson, Shanna and Scott Russell; stepsons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Angela Teffeteller and Scott and Sandra Teffeteller; 7 grandchildren, Jordan Williamson, Marshall Teffeteller, Zack Teffeteller, Caleb Williamson, Breanna Russell, Noah Lance Teffeteller, Kayden Teffeteller; one brother, six sisters, several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Shirley Joy Morton Burchfield, age 46 of Maryville passed away Monday evening September 17, 2001 at Blount Memorial Hospital. preceded in death by son: Jeremy Scott Burchfield.
Survivors: sons - Jerry Lynn Burchfield of South Carolina, Randall J. Burchfield of Kodak. Daughter: Hope Burchfield of Maryville. Parents: Willard and Geneva Payne Morton of Maryville. Sisters: Connie Fielder of Maryville, Sharon Brackins of Sevierville. Brother: Johnathan Burchfield of Norfolk, Va. Brother: George Willard Morton of Maryville. CARMEN MORENO SAINZ TURPIN
Carmen Moreno Sainz Turpin, born September 6, 1932 in Zaragoza, Spain, passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2001 at Fort Sanders Regional Hospital. She was a professional dancer and traveled throughout the world when she met her future husband, Jerry, in Cyprus. In 1967, she moved to the States to be with him and start a family. She was much admired for her wonderful abilities as a seamstress and gardener. Her beautiful nature and charm won her many friends in Maryville, where she lived for 28 years. She touched our hearts with her immense generosity and love and will be dearly missed. preceded in death by, husband, Jerry Clayton Turpin; mother-in-law, Anne Turpin.
Survived by, daughters, Elisabet Turpin, Michelle Lynne Klager and husband Andrew, Elena Brooke Turpin, and Tiffany Moreno Turpin; grandchildren, Megan Nicole Waters, Victoria Bren Swicegood, and Steven Taylor Sands; father-in-law, Edgar Turpin; sister-in-law, Lynda Ellis; special nephew, Armando Barcelot; special friends, Javier and Maria Perez and their children, Jim and Vicki Wilson, Harold and Shirley Scarborough; as well as many beloved, dear family and friends.

James Albert 'Jasper' Acton, age 71 of Englewood, formerly of Maryville, passed away on Tuesday, September 18, 2001 at Sweetwater Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Garland Acton, and his parents, Schuyler and Alice Acton. Survivors include his two sisters and brothers-in-law, Ila Mae and Bob Morton of Maryville, and Norma and Paul Lawson of Kennesaw, Georgia; one niece, Diane Asbury of Maryville; three nephews, Phillip L. Morton of Maryville, Greg and David Lawson both of Georgia; and very special friends for many years, Jim and Betty Smith and Jimmy Smith all of Englewood.
Funeral service 7:30 p.m., Thursday, September 20, 2001, Trinity Chapel, Smith Mortuary with Rev. Harold Townsend officiating. Interment 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 21, 2001 at Grandview Cemetery. MARGARET ROWAN ANDERSON
Margaret Rowan Anderson, age 93 of Oak Ridge, formerly of Maryville and Florida, died Tuesday, September 18, 2001, at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Anderson; parents, J.E. and Nora Badgett Rowan; sisters, Aileen McReynolds and Dorothy Brient; brothers, J. Victor Rowan, Ray Rowan, Ralph Rowan and Sam Preston Rowan.
Survivors include her son, Thomas E. Anderson of Oak Ridge; several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will meet at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Magnolia cemetery for a graveside memorial service with David Prince officiating.
The family will receive friends at the cemetery immediately following the graveside service. McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home in charge.
