MR. HAMILTON BARRON BROOKS
Mr. Hamilton Barron Brooks, age 78 of Chatsworth, Georgia, passed away Sunday, September 23, 2001, at his residence.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mrs. Sybil M. Brooks.
His life is celebrated by his many contributions to his profession, his community, his church and his family and friends. He is remembered as a loving husband and a devoted father and a professional mentor to many.
Devoted to his memory are: daughters and son-in-laws, Jane Brooks and Hugh Thomas of Atlanta, Nancy and Dale Trenda of Maryville, TN, Emily and Joe Bradley of Atlanta; grandchildren, Courtney and Neal Turrentine, Whitney and Will Ryan of Maryville, TN, Hilary and Graham Trenda of Montrose, CO, Ansley and Michael Bradley of Atlanta, Kristen and Brooks Bradley of Flagler Beach, FL; great-grandson, Trevor Bradley of Flagler Beach, FL; sister and brother-in-law, Willellen and Roy Brown of Columbus, Georgia; nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held for Mr. Hamilton Barron Brooks at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 26, 2001, in the chapel of Peeples Funeral Home in Chatsworth, GA, with Rev. Furman Norris and Rev. Larry Pearson officiating. Steve Brown will deliver a eulogy. Burial will follow in the Chatsworth Heights Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

MRS. SYBIL MASHBURN BROOKS
Mrs. Sybil Mashburn Brooks, age 76, of Green Road, Chatsworth, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2001, at her residence.
She was the loving and devoted wife of Mr. Hamilton Barron Brooks, who died Sept. 23, 2001, and they would have celebrated their fifty-fifth wedding anniversary on September 14.
In addition to being a dedicated mother to three daughters, she was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Chatsworth, Georgia. Her wonderful spirit and positive outlook will be remembered by all those she touched in life.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Jane Brooks and Hugh Thomas of Atlanta, GA, Nancy and Dale Trenda of Maryville, Tennessee, Emily and Joe Bradley of Atlanta, Georgia; grandchildren, Courtney and Neal Turrentine of Atlanta, Georgia, Whitney and Will Ryan of Maryville, Tennessee, Hilary and Graham Trenda of Montrose, CO, Ansley and Michael Bradley of Atlanta, Georgia, Kristin and Brooks Bradley of Flagler Beach, Florida; a great-grandson, Trevor Bradley of Flagler Beach, Florida; a brother and sister-in-law, Otto and Lillian Mashburn of Dalton, Georgia; nieces and nephews.
Devoted to her memory, a celebration of life services for Mrs. Sybil M. Brooks were held Saturday, September 15, 2001, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Peeples Funeral Home with Rev. Furman Norris and Rev. Larry Pearson officiating. Interment followed in the Chatsworth Heights Cemetery.

CLEAMON BRIAN 'BJ' JOHNSON
Cleamon Brian 'BJ' Johnson, age 35 of Maryville died Monday, September 24, 2001, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. He was a Sunday School Teacher and member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. He was a graduate of William Blount High School and currently enrolled at Liberty University where he was studying to be a youth minister. He was employed by the Blount County School System.
Survivors include: parents, Cleamon Jr. and Yvonne Johnson of Friendsville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jeff and Renee J. Bowerman of Bailey, CO, and Ray and Rebekah J. Porter of Maryville; grandmother, Ilda Johnson Best; nephews, Cody Bowerman and Evan Porter; several other special aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral service will be at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 27, 2001, Trinity Chapel, Smith Mortuary with Rev. Clifton Hearon officiating. Blanche L. Fox, age 88 of Townsend died Monday, September 24, 2001 at Maryville Health Care Center. She was a member of United Methodist Church on Tuckaleechee Road in Townsend.
Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Samuel Raymond of Townsend; daughters, Judith Britt of FL, Patricia Crites of Ohio; ten grandchildren; nine great grandchildren.

WALTER MARION GURLEY SR.
Walter Marion Gurley Sr., age 67 of Tallassee died Saturday, September 22, 2001 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law. He attended Butterfly Gap Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the US Army and worked at Trio Machinery in Ohio, Blount Lab in Walland, and most recently at Silver King Vacuum Sales and Service in Maryville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elzie and Viola Gurley; sisters, Elsie Wilson and Delores Gurley. He was dearly loved by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann; son and daughter-in-law, Walter Jr. and Teri of Maryville; daughters and sons-in-law, Hazel (Bernie) and Bill Ross of Louisville, Sharon and Grover Bolden of Ohio, Patricia and Charles Anderson of Ohio; brother, Howard Gurley of Ohio; sisters, Marie Orr of Tennessee, Helen Martindale of Mississippi and Martha Morris of Georgia; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sherry and Rick Herrmann and their family Charles, Ben, and Kim; grandchildren, Shane Bolden, Shannon Wellman, (Keith) James Anderson, Christina Anderson, Timothy Bolden, and Brian Anderson; great grandson, Christian Wellman.

ELIZABETH ANGELINE BROWN ROBERTS
Elizabeth Angeline Brown Roberts, age 98 of Maryville, a former resident of Cades Cove, passed away at Blount Memorial Hospital Monday, September 24. She was thought to be the oldest living former resident of Cades Cove. She was the oldest living member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Mrs. Roberts was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley Jackson Roberts; parents, Jesse S. and Rutha Brown; stepmother, Naomi Brown; brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Jennie Brown, Melvin and Mary Brown; sister and brother-in-law, Mike and Mary Tipton and stepsister, Faye and Ralph Ratledge.
She is survived by sons and wives, Henry H. and Mary Kay Roberts and Charles W. and Mary Gene Roberts; half-brothers and wives, Jesse S. Brown, Jr. and Lucille, and Noah Howard and Bernice Brown; five grandchildren, Joyce Garmeson, William W. Roberts, Jeffrey Gordon Roberts, Kent Stephen Roberts and Dawn Lea Bailes; several great grandchildren and a number of special nieces and nephews.
The body is at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Tuesday with a memorial service at 8:00 p.m. conducted by Rev. Greg Long and Rev. Ted E. Davis.

Francis Lyle Bettis, age 81 of Maryville passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 22, 2001. He was retired from Alcoa Aluminum Company after 33 years, a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, and a US Army World War II veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank E. and Lona Morgan Bettis; brother, Luke Bettis; and sons, Don and Kim.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Hillis Blackburn Bettis; daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Charles Jones; grandchildren, Joey and Tanya Smith, Lyle and Cameron Jones, Jerry and Becky Poff, Jason and Nicole Jones; 11 great-grandchildren. He had a great interest in photography and genealogy.
Funeral services will be 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 25, 2001 at the Trinity Chapel of Smith Mortuary with the Rev. David Anderson officiating. DORA C. BUCHANAN
Dora C. Buchanan, age 85, of Maryville, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2001 at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church and worked as a nurse aide at Garrett Memorial Hospital in Crossmore, N.C., Blount Memorial and Fort Sanders.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Carper Buchanan; brother, James Carper Buchanan.
Survivors include nephew, Charles Lee Buchanan of Elk Park, N.C.; cousins, David Buchanan and wife Ginger of Alcoa, Daniel Buchanan and wife Barbara of Rockford, Randy Buchanan and wife Kay of Maryville, Rondy Buchanan and wife Judy of Maryville; special friends, Diane and Conley Dockery of Maryville, Robert Curtis, and Todd Dockery.

Donald Glenn Cowden II, age 21, of Maryville, passed away Friday, September 21, 2001 at Blount Memorial Hospital. Donnie's loyalty and special gift of laughter will always be remembered by all of his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by grandfather, Henry Michael Cowden.
Survivors include parents, Donald Glenn Cowden, Sr. and Sylvia Annette Cowden; brothers and sisters-in-law, Travis and Amy Cowden, Billy and Rose Cowden all of Maryville; special nieces, Alex, Katie, and Meghan; grandmothers, Virginia B.
