JIM HUGH BURNETT
Jim Hugh Burnett, age 86 of Greenback passed away Tuesday afternoon October 2, 2001, at the family home. Member of Greenback Memorial Baptist Church. Born October 13, 1914, as the 8th of 8 children, to the late Brantley and Janie Johnson Burnett. Mr. Burnett was originally from Dudleyville, Ala. During World War II he was a member of the U.S. Navy Seabees and served in the Aleutian Islands and Okinawa. He was one-third partner of Sutton Transfer and Storage of Maryville, Tennessee, an agent for North American Van Lines. Mr. Burnett was a volunteer fireman for Maryville in the early `50s. He served as the chairman for the Democratic Party in Blount Co. He was a very successful businessman in landscaping and local restaurant businesses.
Preceded in death by June Sutton Burnett; mother and father; 8 brothers and sisters from Ala.
Survivors: wife, Jean Rogers Burnett; daughter and son-in-law, Janie Sue and Jim Bob Curtis of Ocklawaha, Fla; grandchildren, Jason and Kathleen Hurst of Orlando, Fla., Jeff Hurst of Ocklawaha, Fla; nephew, Harry J. Sanders of Nunford, Ala; nieces, Marileen Burnett Shaw, Shelby, Ala., Beverly Burnett Howard of Alexander City, Ala.
Funeral service 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 5, 2001, Greenback Memorial Baptist Church, Hwy. 95 N., Greenback. Rev. Ron Bailey officiating. Interment to follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. The body will lie in state 1 hr prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Greenback Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund or to the Greenback Emergency & Rescue Squad, 6815 Morganton Rd., Greenback, TN. 37742. ELMO ALBERT HILL
Elmo Albert Hill, age 76 of Maryville passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2001, at his home. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years. He retired from his position with Ryder Transportation Administration and later worked for Cherokee Transportation of Knoxville, TN. He was a Veteran of World War II, in the Navy, serving in the Pacific Theater.
Preceded in death by: parents, Albert and Martha Roberts Hill; three brothers, Otis Hill and 2 infants.
He was born in Cades Cove, Tennessee on March 13, 1925.
Survivors include: wife of 54 years, Julia R. Clemmer Hill; sons, William A. Hill of Sterling, MA, Dr. Edward Hill and wife Lana of Montgomery, AL; grandson, Edward Albert Hill of Norman, OK; granddaughters, Emily Lynne Hill and Bridget Julia Hill of Hainesville, IL; sisters, Mabel Ogle and husband, Marvin of Maryville and Ruth Esposito of Orlando, FL.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 4, 2001 in the Trinity Chapel of Smith Mortuary with Rev. Greg Long officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Building Fund. BLANCHE LILES HINKLE
Blanche Liles Hinkle, age 85 of Knoxville, formerly of Lenoir City, passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2001 at her home. She was a member of Stock Creek Baptist Church. A longtime nurse for Dr. Gammon in Knoxville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Hinkle; son, George Hinkle; brother, Clint Liles; sisters, Verna and Tennie Scarbrough, Nell Snapp and Willie Cate.
Survived by children, David Hinkle and wife, Mary of Knoxville, Dennis Hinkle and wife, Peggy of Maryville, Carolyn Hinkle of Knoxville; 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers, Walter Herbert Liles of Spring City, Sanders Liles Jr. of Lenoir City; sister, Margaret McNabb of Spartanburg, SC; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:45 p.m. Friday with funeral services to follow at 8 p.m. in the Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. George Hollander and Rev. Lester Mullins officiating. Michael P. 'Gearhead' Young, age 43 of Maryville died Tuesday, October 2, 2001, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a Heavy Equipment Mechanic. preceded in death by father, Roy 'Bo' Franklin.
Survivors include: wife, Donna Gail Young; son, Michael P. Leland Dale Magoon, Jr., age 24 of Seymour, died October 1, 2001, in Maryville. He was a member of Bible Fellowship Church in Seymour.

Roy Phillip Russell, Sr., 73, Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, September 4, at Methodist Medical Center, Oak Ridge.

DR. JOHN A. YARBOROUGH
Dr. John A. Yarborough, age 82, a general and thoracic surgeon in Maryville for 46 years, died Sunday afternoon, September 30, 2001 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was married
to the late Marshall Page Yarborough for 57 years. She preceded him in death in January 2001.
Dr. Yarborough was a former chief of staff and chief of surgery at Blount Memorial Hospital, and served a term as president of the Knoxville Area Surgical Society. He received the Distinguished Service Award from the Blount Memorial Hospital Foundation in 1998. Born in Wake Forest, North Carolina, he was raised in Cary, NC. He graduated from Duke University in Durham, NC in 1941 and from Duke Medical School in 1944. Dr. Yarborough served in the Pacific as a Captain in the United States Army Medical Corp. during World War II. He received thoracic surgery training at the University of Southern California and completed his residency at Vanderbilt in Nashville, TN. A life-long supporter of Duke University, Dr. Yarborough was one of the founders of the Davison Club, a society that supports Duke Medical Center, and was president of the Duke Medical Alumni Association from 1967-68. In 1972, he served as chairman of the Duke University National Council. He was one of the first members of the Iron Dukes, a society that supports Duke athletics. He also served on the Duke University Athletic Council, and received the Charles A. Duke Award for outstanding service in alumni affairs in 1994. In addition to his wife, his younger brother, Graham, preceded him in death.
Survivors include: sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Emily Yarborough of Maryville and Mike Yarborough and Kathy Sanzo of Silver Spring, MD; daughters and sons-in-law, Gayle and Bill Herndon of Atlanta, GA and Ginger and Dr. Stuart Garner of Charlotte, NC; eight grandchildren include: Page and Jay Yarborough of Maryville, Tom, David and Kate Garner of Charlotte, Allison, Patrick and Caroline Yarborough of Silver Spring; sister-in-law, Florence Yarborough of Hampton, VA; sisters-in-law and spouses, Mary P. and Jim Peterson of McLean, VA and Elizabeth P. and Bill Wardle of Punta Gorda, Fl; numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, October 6, 2001 at New Providence Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Emily Anderson officiating.
