Mr. Benjamin Franklin Mynatt
Mr. Benjamin Franklin Mynatt, 69, passed away Sunday, September 9, 2001, at Wake Forest University Baptist Hospital.
Born February 10, 1932, in Morristown, TN, Mr. Mynatt was the son of the late Ewin Garland Mynatt and Martha Lee Tucker Mynatt.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 46 years, Grace Macdougall Mynatt; daughter, Cynthia Lee Mynatt; son and daughter-in-law, Richard Franklin and Julie Waddell Mynatt; three grandsons, Benjamin Ward Childress, Matthew Carter Mynatt and Kris Lee Mynatt all of Concord, NC. Also surviving are his brother and sister-in-law, William G. and Shirley H. Mynatt of Knoxville, TN; sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and John G. Karnes of Knoxville, TN, Barbara and John Patterson, and Martha L. Mynatt of Maryville, TN, Mary and John Penn of Raleigh, NC; sister-in-law, Beverly K. Mynatt of Concord; brothers and sisters-in-law, Iver and Terry Macdougall of Bainbridge Island, WA, Jane and Jerry Thompson of Overland Park, KS and Linda Macdougall of Houston, TX; numerous cherished nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Arthur A. (Doc) Mynatt and brother-in-law, Donald B. Macdougall.
Known fondly as Gentle Ben, he will be sorely missed by untold numbers of family, friends and employees. His love for others led him to a life of quiet service to his community. Involved in the retail automobile business since his college days in 1955, he was the owner, with his son and daughter, of Ben Mynatt Chevrolet, Cadillac, Oldsmobile Inc. and Ben Mynatt Pontiac, Buick, GMC Inc. He had recently celebrated 25 years as a franchised Chevrolet dealer in Concord, NC.
He served on the board of directors of the North Carolina Automobile Dealers Association; the Carolina Chevy Dealers Advertising Association; and the Dealer Council of Chevrolet Motor Division of General Motors Corporation. He was honored by his peers with the 1994 North Carolina TIME Magazine Quality Dealer Award and the 2000 Lifetime Achievement Award. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Concord Telephone Company and the Cabarrus Concrete Company.
His love for the Concord community was exhibited through his leadership on the boards of the Cabarrus County Boys and Girls Club, Cabarrus Credit Bureau, Cabarrus Meals on Wheels, Salvation Army, Cabarrus County United Negro College Fund, United Way of the Carolinas, and the Greater Cabarrus Economic Development Council. He was a past chairman of the Concord Cabarrus County Chamber of Commerce, a Paul Harris member of the Concord Rotary Club and a lifetime member of Optimist International. He was a trustee of Rowan-Cabarrus Community College and Wingate University and a member of the Board of Visitors of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
He was honored as the inaugural Citizen of the Year of the Cabarrus County Regional Chamber of Commerce; Concord Credit Professionals Boss of the Year 1985 and 1992; Concord Business and Professional Women Man of the Year, and was awarded the RCCC Distinguished Service Award; the Boys and Girls Club Service Medallion; and the Optimist International Distinguished President Award.
A graduate of the University of Tennessee where he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa, he was a loyal Vol fan and member of the UT Mountaineer Club as well as the Davidson College Wildcat Club, and the UNCC Athletic Foundation. He was a member of Stokes Lodge #32 AF&AM, the Scottish Rite, and the Oasis Temple, Charlotte, NC.
A service to celebrate the life of Ben Mynatt will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 12 at Central United Methodist Church, Union St., Concord, with the Rev. Steve James and the Rev. Eugene Hunsinger attending. Visitation will be held at Wilkinson's Funeral Home on Branchview Drive, Concord, 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, September 11. At other times the family will receive friends at his home, 1980 Highway 73 East.

James Clanton Trusty Sr., age 64 of Alcoa, passed away Monday morning, September 10, 2001, at Ft. Sanders Regional Hospital in Knoxville. A former businessman in Blount County for 42 years, Mr. Trusty owned Quality Paving and Real Estate, was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Maryville.
Survivors include: wife, Mary Louise Trusty of Alcoa; sons and daughters-in-law, James Jr. and Dianna Trusty of Louisville, Gregory Lynn and Tina Trusty of Alcoa; grandchildren, Kourtney Trusty, Alisa Gribble, Kristina and Jameson Courtney of Alcoa; sisters, Dixie Shaw and Norma McKelroy of Mississippi; sisters-in-law, Karolyn Trusty of Indiana, Gertrude Trusty of Alabama; former daughter-in-law, Tammy Trusty of Maryville; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ronald L. Longmire and Rev. Bryan Abel officiating. The interment will follow in Clark's Grove Cemetery.

Thelma Lenora Williams, age 83 of Maryville died Monday morning September 10, 2001, at Colonial Hills Nursing Home.
She is survived by her niece and nephews, Linda Brewer, Ricky Butler, and Gary Butler; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Opal Keeble.

Mary L. Yearout, age 53 of Maryville died Saturday, September 8, 2001, at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was a born again Christian. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kermit R. and Ruth Ownby Murr.
She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Pete Yearout; son and daughter-in-law, Benjamin and Jill Yearout all of Maryville; daughter, Cindy Yearout of Mobile, AL; grandchildren, Myranda and Brandon Yearout of Maryville.
Funeral services will be at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Unity Full Gospel Church, 129 Memorial Drive off of Duncan Road in Maryville, with Rev. Mike McClurg and Rev. Ronald Blair officiating. Inez Galloway Jones, age 89 of Barrington, Illinois, formerly of Maryville, passed away Wednesday September 5, 2001 in Illinois. Mrs. Jones was born in Fannin County Georgia July 15, 1912. She was a graduate of Maryville College. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren E. Jones whom she married
in 1939.

Orionna Faith Robinson, age 11 of Maryville, died Friday, September 7, 2001. She attended Maryville Intermediate School, was a member of Unity Church of Knoxville, Uniteens Youth group at Unity Church. Was a member of the Drama Club at Maryville Intermediate School, and various softball, basketball and soccer teams. She was preceded in death by, grandmother, Sue A. Robinson. Great-grandparents, Grady Flynn, Marcus and Anne Robinson, Fred and Elizabeth Raulston, Gerald and Erma Blanding.

Earl Lawrence Smith, age 88, died September 8, 2001. Mr. Smith was a retired DuPont employee of 43 years.
He is survived by wife of 68 years, Margaret Capps Smith; son, Jim Smith (Donna); daughters, Peggy Hewgley (Larry), Jackie North (Al); sister, Virginia Lampley (Walter); grandchildren, Keith Hewgley (Pat), Steve Hewgley, Lee North (Beth), Kristie North, Karen Diner and Michael Keyes (Nealie) and six great-grandchildren.
