GEORGE R. SCARLETT
George R. Scarlett, age 61 of Friendsville, died Tuesday July 10, 2001 in Nebraska, as the result of an auto accident. He was preceded in death by his parents: Francis and Helen Gaffney Scarlett. He was a Veteran of the US Navy serving in the Bay of Pigs. He was employed by Roadway Trucking for the past six years.
He is survived by his wife: Sandy Kay Freeman Scarlett of Friendsville, daughters and sons-in-law: Michelle and Brad Hinds of Knoxville, Vicky and Jeff Jones of Maryville, son: Steven Bartholomew of Friendsville, children from a previous marriage: Carrie, Jim and Chris, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, sisters: Frances Mary of Washington, Sandra May of California, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be at 8:00 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Funeral Home in Maryville with Rev. Paul Covert officiating. JENNIE M. SPIRES
Jennie M. Spires, age 81 of Greenback, died Tuesday, July 10, 2001, at Blount Memorial Hospital. She attended Pine Grove Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Albert C. Spires; father and mother, George and Mary Hammontree McCollum; 3 brothers, Millum, Herman and Burl.
Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Harold Wolfe of Greenback; sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Carolyn Spires of Alcoa, Dowell and LaVonne Spires of Greenback; grandchildren, Sabrina Diggs, Sharon Hunt, Mary Spires, Tim Spires and Grant Spires; great-grandchildren, Meagan and Madison Spires, Brittany Wall, Adam Diggs, Wendy Sexton and Bridgette Hurst; sisters, Ezarene Rollins, Marie Payne and Jerrie Lane all of Greenback; brothers-in-law, Kenneth, Bob and Gerald Spires; sisters-in-law, Mary Banton and Lavada Dyer; nieces and nephews; special care givers, Evelyn Clark, Crystal Smallen, Margie Trollinger, JoAnn McKee and Pat Murr.
Friends will meet at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Pine Grove cemetery in Greenback for a graveside service with Rev. Ron Sabo officiating. WILLIAM H. SWENSON
William H. Swenson, age 76 of Maryville, died Sunday, July 8, 2001, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Maryville First United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir, was a veteran of World War II having served with the U.S. Army in Italy. He holds a Bachelor's Degree from Maryville College and a Master's Degree from the Art Institute of Chicago. Mr. Swenson taught Art at Maryville College and Ashland College in Ashland, Ohio, and was Docent at Knoxville Museum of Art. He was a voting machine technician for the Blount County Election Commission.
Survivors include: wife, Peggy T. Swenson; daughter and son-in-law, Esther and David Iles of Langley, WA; son and daughter-in-law, William H. and Linda Swenson of Binghamton, NY; stepdaughters, Jennifer Murphy and Julia Lawson both of Maryville; grandsons, Elijah Iles and Ian Murphy; sister, Janet White of Shippensburg, PA; brothers, Fred Swenson of Fairfax, CA and Jack Swenson of Boise, ID; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Maryville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Darris Doyal and Rev. Richard Richter officiating. The interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Church. Dana Alma McGill Tilley, age 80 of Greenback passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2001 at Colonial Hills Nursing Home. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. preceded in death by husband, Charles Tilley; brothers, John, Cecil and Claude McGill.
Survived by a host of nieces, nephews and sisters-in-law.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Click-Hawkins Chapel with funeral services to follow at 8 p.m. with Rev. Eddie Chasteen officiating. ALBERTA O. SPRIGGS WILSON
Alberta O. Spriggs Wilson, age 91 of Alcoa, Tenn., a native of Cleveland, Tenn. died Tuesday morning in a local Cleveland hospital. She was a graduate of College Hill High School in Cleveland, Tenn. and attended Tuskegee Institute.
She is preceded in death by her parents Anderson and Etta Spriggs and husband August Wilson, and nephew Bobby Johnson.
Survivors include sister Odella Blair of Cleveland, Tenn., nieces, Betty Cunnungham, Fay Couch, and Geraldine Everett. Nephews, Rev. Harry Johnson, James Johnson, John Blair and Paul Blair. Many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Saturday 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul A.M.E. Church on Hall Rd. with Rev. George Byrd officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood cemetery in Maryville, Tenn. James C. (Butch) Lee Sr. age 59 of South Knoxville, passed away Sunday, July 8, 2001. Mr. Lee attended Ward's Chapel Church of God, retired employee of Sterchi Brothers and he was a self-employed Knox County School Bus Contractor. preceded in death by parents, Elmer and Bonita Lane Lee; brother, Boyd Lee; sisters, Emma Allen and Gertrude Breeden.
Survivors: wife, Joyce Cole Lee; sons and daughters-in-law, James and Becky Lee, Jr. and Billy and Brenda Lee; daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca and Michael Mooneyhan, Patty and Tim Hanson, Teresa and Keith Black and Brenda and Doug Simpson; 20 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; brothers, Ralph, John and Raymond; sisters, Barbara Joiner and Anna Collins.

Gladys Nelson Lindamood, age 93 of Friendsville passed away Monday, July 9, 2001 at Blount Memorial Hospital. Member of Marble Hill Baptist Church. preceded in death by husband: James Kiga 'Big Jim' Lindamood; 2 infant children; 3 sisters and 4 brothers.

James Eugene 'Gene' Hurst, of Maryville, died suddenly Sunday, July 8, 2001, at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga. He was a member of East Maryville Baptist Church. preceded in death by father, Alvin Hurst, in 1985.
Survivors: mother, Elsa Mae Taylor Hurst of Maryville; brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Sue Hurst of Knoxville; sister and brother-in-law, Anita and Charles Fine of Alcoa; several nieces and nephews.

Martha Wingfield Hurst, age 75, of Maryville, died Sunday, July 8, 2001, at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Hurst.
