JAMES M. MORTON
James M. Morton, age 81 of Maryville, died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army, was retired from ALCOA after 38 years of service, was a member of the 25 Year Service Club and was a member of the Rockford Lodge #469 F&AM.
Mr. Morton was preceded in death by his father, James M. Morton; mother, Inez Morton Lambert; brother, Eldra Morton and sisters, Nora Miller and Marie Farley.
Survivors include: wife, Reva M. Morton; daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Keith Long and Judy and Phil Smith; grandchildren, Brad K. Long, Kristin Long and Blayne Smith; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ben and Ruth Morton and Dale and Kaye Lambert, all of Maryville; several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will meet at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Carpenters cemetery for a graveside service with Rev. Greg Kelly officiating. Full military honors will be provided by Volunteer State War Era Veterans Hall of Honor. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Thursday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home.

ELOSHA I . TUCK
Elosha I. Tuck, age 81 of Maryville, died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at Asbury Acres Healthcare Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben S. Tuck and son, Larry Tuck.
Survivors include: son, Benton S. Tuck, Jr. of Maryville; granddaughter, Tammy Tuck of IL; great grandchild, Shannon Tuck; brothers and sisters-in-law, Carl and Ruth Cummings of Greenback and A.B. and Wilma Cummings of IL.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Curtis Keith officiating. The interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-7:00 p.m. Thursday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home.

HELEN JOYCE MIZE WALLS
Helen Joyce Mize Walls, age 80, resident of Knoxville, formerly of Port St. John, FL passed away July 18, 2001. Mrs. Walls was born October 10, 1920, at her family home in Maryville, TN. preceded in death by her husband, Meredith W. Walls; parents, Beecher E. and Edna Morton Mize; stepmother, Vola Farmer Mize; infant son, Meredith Beecher Walls; daughters, Joyce Nettie Heald and Joylyn Sue Goff; sisters, Barbara Mize and Martha Boruff; and son-in-law, Virgil W. Braden.
Survived by daughters, Sherry Braden, Knoxville, TN, Edna Lee (Bob), Madison, AL; son, Paul N. Walls (Sharon), Mt. Juliet, TN; brothers, Elmer Mize and Bob Mize (Elizabeth), of Maryville, TN; grandchildren, Michelle Smith, Tiffany Morris, Wayne Braden, Joe Braden, Brandy Braden Wright, Virgil Braden Jr., Judy Braden Snyder, Robert H. Lee Jr., Ryan C. Lee, Ashley Walls, Shannon Walls, Cassie Percifull, Danny Walls, Eddie Walls and Melinda Walls Hackworth; and son-in-law, Carl Goff; nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be conducted 8:00 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home, graveside service and interment 11:00 a.m. Friday, Oliver Springs Cemetery, Oliver Springs, TN. With Rev. Garvin W. Walls II, officiating. Grandchildren will serve as Pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Hospice Organization, 1901 North Moore Street, Suite 901, Arlington, Virginia 22209 or the American Cancer Society. Visitation with the family 6:00-8:00 p.m. prior to the service at Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Hwy. 577-6666.

JOSEPH S. ATCHISON
2001-07-18
Joseph S. Atchison, Lt. Colonel U.S. Army Retired, of Sharpsburg died July 15, 2001. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army with 24 years of service including Vietnam and Desert Storm. His awards include the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster and the Legion of Merit. Currently, he was employed as a Political Analyst with International Consultants at the 3rd Army at Ft. McPherson.
Survived by his wife of 33 years, Jane H. Atchison of Sharpsburg; daughter, Amy Leigh Atchison of Ft. Worth, TX; daughter, Ayn Atchison Owens of Ft. Worth, TX; son-in-law, Tod Owens of Ft. Worth, TX; mother, Margaret S. Atchison of Maryville, TN; sister, Becky Fleenor of Mt. Juliet, TN; brother, Frank T. Atchison, Jr. of Houston, TX; cousin, Robert H. Hale of Charlotte, NC; he was predeceased by his father, Frank T. Atchison.
Funeral services Thursday, July 19 at 10:00 a.m. in the Protestant Chapel, Ft. McPherson with remains placed instate at 9:00 a.m. Chaplain Al Smith officiating. Interment 2:30 p.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. JAMES ARLIE MESSER SR.
James Arlie Messer Sr., age 89 of Sevierville, died Monday, July 16, 2001. He was preceded in death by his wives, Martha Ann W. Messer and Odessie W. Messer; son, James A. 'Bud' Messer Jr.; daughter, Charlotte Ann Messer. Mr. Messer was retired from ALCOA and was a member of the '25-Year Club.'
Survivors: daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ellen and Roger Meece of Lexington, Kentucky; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas W. and Imogene Messer of Sevierville; granddaughter, Martha Ann Lail and husband, Jeff, of Kentucky; grandsons, Thomas W. Messer Jr. and wife, Donna, of Sevierville, James A. Meece of Chicago, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Drew Lail, David McMahan, Leslie McMahan.
Funeral service 7 p.m. Wednesday in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home, Rev. Ben Whitted officiating. Interment 10 a.m. Thursday in Middle Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville.

ELEANOR SMALLEN
Eleanor Smallen, age 86 of Maryville, died Tuesday, July 17, 2001 at Colonial Hills Nursing Home. She was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church, was retired from ALCOA and was a member of the 25 Year Service Club.
Survivors include: sisters, Helen Thomas of Lenoir City, Martha Sinks of Loudon; sisters and brothers-in-law, Harriett and Pete Webb, Betty and Frank Taylor all of Maryville; nieces, Phyllis Cornelius and husband Paul of Maryville, Jane Ann Garner and husband Murray of Kingwood, TX, Patsy Ervin and husband J. E. of Mount Airy, GA; nephew, Tim Webb and wife Jane of Dothan, AL; several other nieces and nephews; very dear friend, Jane Roberson of Maryville.
Family and friends will meet at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Grandview cemetery for a graveside service with Rev. Ken Green officiating.

CRETTIE GLADYS DIXON SMITH
Crettie Gladys Dixon Smith, age 89 of Downey California formerly of Blount County passed away Friday, July 13, 2001 at Villa Elena Convalescent Center, Downey California. preceded in death by husband, Leonard N. Smith.
Survivors: daughters, Mrs. Billie Harris, Mrs. Dot Maksion both of Michigan; sons, Harold Smith of North Carolina, Frank Smith, Ronald Smith both of California; 19 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2001 Miller Funeral Home Magnolia Chapel, Dr. Jim Millsaps officiating. Family and friends will meet at Zion Chapel cemetery at 10:00 a.m. Thursday for the interment service. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.

ANNA STINNETT
Anna Stinnett, age 77 of Maryville died Monday, July 16, 2001 at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was born March 25, 1924. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; three grandchildren; two brothers; and one sister.
She is survived by her children: Mary Lou Scott of Greenback, Thomas R. Stinnett of Friendsville, Danny T. Stinnett of Maryville, Joseph R. Stinnett, of Greenback, James V. Stinnett of Maryville; stepchildren, Sue of FL, Barbara of Friendsville; sister, Mary Jo Forrester of Maryville; 16 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the First Apostolic Church 1723 William Blount Drive, Maryville with Rev. Kenneth Carpenter and Rev. Gary Hannah officiating. The family and friends will meet at 10:15 a.m. Thursday at Memorial Funeral Home to proceed to Keeble's Chapel cemetery for an 11:00 a.m. graveside service. THEODORE R. DIAL SR.
2001-07-15
Theodore R. Dial Sr., age 81 of Maryville died at 7:10 p.m., Friday, July 13, 2001 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Edgewood Primitive Baptist Church and he attended Faith Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in WWII. Mr. Dial had been recognized as the second oldest living veteran in Blount County. preceded in death by wife, Mildred Ownby Dial; children, Jerry, Glenda and Randall; parents, James and Elizabeth Dial; brothers, Reaford, Roy and Alfred Dial; sister, Margaret Reagan.
Survivors include, son and daughter-in-law, Ted Jr. and Wanda Dial of Maryville; daughter and son-in-law, Imogene and Pat Acuff of Maryville; 5 grandchildren, Shannon Shoemaker, Travis and Amanda Dial, Corey and Christina Acuff; 2 great-grandchildren, Zachery Sargent and Halie Gardner; several nieces and nephews and a special companion, Pearl Kirkland.
Funeral service 8:00 p.m., Sunday, July 15, 2001, Trinity Chapel, Smith Mortuary with Rev. Harold Townsend and Rev. Tommy Boring officiating. The family and friends will assemble at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 16, 2001 at Grandview cemetery for the interment. The family will be receiving friends from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Sunday, Trinity Chapel, Smith Mortuary, Maryville, 865-983-1000.

KENNETH EUGENE GAY
Kenneth Eugene Gay, age 51 of Maryville passed away Thursday July 12, 2001 at the family home. The body was cremated and no services are planned at this time. Arrangements by Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.

ROBERT CARLTON LEWIS
Robert Carlton Lewis, age 75 of Maryville died Saturday July 14, 2001 at his home after a long illness. He was a member of New Providence Presbyterian Church, he was retired from ALCOA with 37 years of service and a member of the 25 year service club, a veteran of WWII and was an avid golfer. He was preceded in death by daughter Karen Lewis Pflanze, parents John W. and Ruby Lindsey Lewis, and sister Elizabeth Scott.
His survivors include wife of 51 years Nell Shy Lewis, son and daughter-in-law Mike and Brenda Lewis, and daughter Laurie Lewis of Knoxville. Grandchildren are Melissa and Brian Beeler, Jennifer and Jason Lane, and Rebekka Pflanze and great-grandchildren Hunter Thomas Lane, and Robert Bryce Beeler. Brothers John Lewis of Decatur Ga., and Frank Lewis of Mobile Ala., and sisters Ann Foose of Lancaster, Pa., and Lelia Guritz of Macon Ga., and Evelyn Wetzler of Sherman Oaks Calif.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Grandview cemetery with Dr. G. Kenneth Gates officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorials to the Blount Memorial Hospice Group 1095 East Lamar Alexander Pkwy Maryville Tennessee 37804.

EDGAR MILES
Edgar Miles age 82 of Maryville passed away Saturday morning July 14, 2001 at Blount Memorial Hospital. Veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II. preceded in death by first wife: Bessie 'Bill' Miles, second wife: Amanda Tilley Miles. Sisters: Martha Jewel Hammonds, Gaynell Chambers, brothers: Albert and Hubert Miles.
Survivors: son and daughter-in-law: James 'J.E.' and Donna Miles of Maryville. Grandchildren: Adrian, Caleb, Hayley Miles. Sister: Dimple White of Maryville. Several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service 8:00 p.m. Monday July 16, 2001 at New Providence Primitive Baptist Church, Elder Ronnie Blair, Elder Ronald Crisp officiating. Interment 10:00 a.m. Tuesday in the church cemetery. The body will be at New Providence Primitive Baptist Church (Six Mile Rd., Maryville) after 3:30 p.m. Monday where friends may call at their convenience. Arrangements by Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.
