NELLIE SAULS GARNER
Nellie Sauls Garner, age 90 of Maryville, passed away Friday, April 1, 2005, at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert B. 'Bert' Garner; great-grandson, Scott Chandler Cox; daughter-in-law, Sue Garner; sisters and brothers, Vina, Tennie, Ruth, Sam, Jimmy, Dick and Bush.
Survivors include her sons, Herbert Garner and Gene Garner both of Maryville; grandchildren, Randy Garner of Maryville, Teresa Tench of Buford, GA, Shannon Cox, Shanea Boring and Shane Garner all of Maryville; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Keith Pierce officiating. Family and friends will meet at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Clark's Grove cemetery for the interment service.

Clifford R. Gooden, age 80 of Maryville passed away Friday, April 1, 2005 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. preceded in death by: parents, Walter and Kittie Gooden; brother and sister-in-law, Charles C. and Ola Gooden; sister, Vina Buchanan; brother-in-law, Charles O. Nichols. Thomas Joe Selvidge, 70 of Louisville passed away April 1, 2005 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Rescue Baptist Church in Friendsville. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clay and Margaret Lanter Selvidge; son, Little Joe Selvidge; brother, Raymond Selvidge. He is survived by his wife: Cleo Frances Selvidge; daughters, Carol Jean Selvidge, Rhonda S. Bluford, Janet M. Bennett, Debra Ellison, Sherry Jones; sons, Everett Selvidge, Johnny and Rhonda Lanter, Jason Parrott; three granddaughters; four grandsons; two great-grandsons. MSGT Samuel B. Hicks USAF Retired, age 68, of Maryville, formerly of Dayton, TN, was born September 5, 1936 and departed this life July 4, 2005 at his home. He served in the US Air Force for 23 years. After retiring from AF he entered the law enforcement field serving as a deputy sheriff of Rhea Co. TN, and Greene Co., GA. police Department of Greensboro, GA, and City of Greensboro police officer, State of TN military police at McGhee Tyson ANG Base. He was a member of New Providence Masonic Lodge # 128, Maryville, TN. He was Plural Member of Atkins Lodge # 266, Taylortown, LA. He was preceded in death by Brother: Larry K. Hicks, Sister: Mona Lee Hicks, and his Daughter: Sandra Rea Hicks. He is survived by his Daughters: Marion Crowe of Maryville, Denise Hicks and Jenise Hicks both of Union Point, GA, Stephanie Taylor of Tomson, GA, Grandchildren: Mike Dupre of Columbia, SC, Joe Dupre of Dayton, TN, Justin Hattaway of Union Point, GA, Matthew Crowe of Maryville, TN, Sister: Charlotte Essary of Nira, MO, Brother: Ralph E. Sallie Hood, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at Ft. Sanders Medical Center in Knoxville, TN.
She was born January 16, 1919 in Tennille, Georgia to the late Lenton and Lola Freeman.
She is survived by husband Silas Hood, and one son Ulyssee (Alma) Hood of Fayetteville, NC; Three grandchildren, Gena Batts, Steven Hood, and Doanie Elliott; great-granddaughter Erica Batts.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul AME Methodist Church in Alcoa. Burial to follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Alcoa, TN.

Sarah Milen, age 74, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at St. Mary's Select Specialty Hospital. She attended Trinity Baptist Church in Knoxville. Sarah is preceded in death by husband, Franklin Milen; parents, Walter and Maye Phillips; brother, Wayne Phillips; and great-granddaughter, Whitney Grace Milen.

Bill Sparks 'Tige, ' age 95, of Maryville, passed away Monday evening, July 4, 2005 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a member of East Alcoa Baptist Church, and a founding member of Birchfield Baptist Church and preceded in death by his beloved wife of 74 years, Billie Revonda Rose Sparks; daughter, Christine Clark; son, Robert O. Sparks; sisters, Mabelle Craig, Margie Chapman and Mary Palmer; brothers, Dewey Sparks and George Sparks; son-in-law, Clyde Clark. Survived by those left to cherish his memory include daughters, Jean Blevins of Tallassee and Carol Gregory of Maryville; son in law, Ernie Blevins of Tallassee; sons and daughters in law, Keith and Carolyn Sparks of Friendsville, Clell and Loretta Sparks of Friendsville, and Neil and Judy Sparks of Maryville; grandchildren, Kim Clark, Teresa Nuchols, Steve Blevins, Gary Blevins, Michael Sparks, Sherri Harveston, Russell Keith Sparks, Mandy Cannon, Traci Bush, Travis Sparks, Brian Gregory and Vance Gregory; 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Louise Abbott; brothers, Roy and Lester Sparks. JAMES MOSES `JIT' SYKES
James Moses (Jit) Sykes passed away on Monday, July 4, 2005 at Blount Memorial Hosptal, Maryville, TN. He was born on October 27, 1938 in Alcoa, TN to the late Charles and Mary Sykes.
James confessed Christ at an early age and was a devoted member of Rest Haven Missonary Baptist Church in Alcoa where he served as a Deacon, Trustee and a member of the choir. He was retired from Delta Airlines.
James (Jit) was a devoted husband, a loving and caring father and grandfather. He truly loved his family, and cared for others. To know him was to love him. He will be missed.
He was preceded in death by parents; and siblings Charles Sykes, Mary Brown, Eloise Stevenson and Equilla Scott.
He leaves to mourn his death his loving and devoted wife, Dorothy C. Sykes of Maryville, TN; two sons, Rev. Dennis (Melody) Sykes and Ronald (Ava) Sykes of Stone Mountain, GA, three daughters, Teresa and Sheila Sykes of Alcoa, TN and Angela (Calvin) Jackson of Stone Mountain, GA. Sisters, Nettie Lamar of Nagara Falls, NY and Sarah (James)Malone of Largo, MD. Fourteen grandchildren and one great grandchild and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 8, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Rest Haven Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Turney officiating. Burial to follow at Sherwood Memoral Gardens.

MARY ALICE MILLS THOMAS
Mary Alice Mills Thomas, age 110 of Clinton, went Home to be with her Lord Tuesday, July 5, 2005. Alice, the oldest of 8 children, was born and raised in Concord, Tennessee. Alice was a lady of small stature, but large in inner strength, who overcame many hardships in her 110 years. She spent most of her adult life in Maryville, Tennessee as a housewife and mother lovingly serving and caring for her family as well as many others. She also loved nature and was known as a special friend to animals and birds. Alice was the oldest charter member of the Martha Washington Chapter 231 of the Tennessee Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Franklin and Martha Mills of Concord; her husband of 44 years, Charles R. Thomas; two children, Edward Thomas and Mary Charles Etheridge; and a granddaughter, Alice Lee Etheridge.
