Barbara Swaggerty Burkhart, age 87, of Knoxville went to be with the Lord Saturday January 8, 2005, at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was a longtime member of New Hopewell Baptist Church. At the time of her death she was a resident of Asbury Place. preceded in death by parents Raymond and Bertha Deaderick; husbands, J.U. Burkhart and Ralph Swaggerty; brothers Oakley, Elbert and Earnest Deaderick. Survivors: sisters Bertha Beeler, Nell Rauhuff, Elizabeth Loveday, Armintha Collins; several nieces and nephews. Service will be in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home, Monday, January 10, at 8 o'clock with Reverend Gary Swaggerty and Reverend Joel Tilson officiating. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 o'clock prior to the services. Pallbearers will be Adam Beeler, Ricky Beeler, Ray Burkhart, Travis Henderson, Bill Smith and Hugh Randel Smith. HILDA LEIBENGUTH WAID
Hilda Leibenguth Waid, age 88, of Maryville, passed away Saturday, January 8, 2005, at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was the widow of Richard E. Waid, who died in 1986. She was a graduate of Ball State Teacher's College, Muncie, Indiana. She also attended Purdue University and the University of Tennessee. She taught school in Lafayette City Schools, Lafayette, Indiana. She served many years as a substitute teacher in Indiana and Tennessee. She was active with the Scouting program. She helped establish the Senior Girl Scouting Program in Blount County. She was a charter member of Blount Christian Church. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Douglas Loveall of Crestwood, Kentucky, and Lana and Douglas Bodem of Roebuck, South Carolina; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Bessie Waid of Maryville; son, Lynn Waid of Charleston; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother Ray Leibenguth of Mulberry, Indiana; and sister, Helen Kern of Lafayette, Indiana. Juanita Margaret Fleeman, age 79, of Maryville, went to be with the Lord Friday, January 14, 2005, after a lingering illness at home. Born October 11, 1925, in Jonesville, Va., she was the daughter of the late Curtis and Celia Edens Bledsoe. She was a member of Maryville Church of Christ. Juanita was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She is survived by her husband, Arvle Fleeman of Maryville; sons, Danny Fleeman of Maryville and David Greer and wife Joan of Monroe, Mich.; grandchildren, Alissa Case and husband Norman of Greer, S.C., Ryan Greer and wife Rachel of Monroe, Mich., Todd Greer and fiancée Chelsea Bennett of Rochester Hills, Mich. Jackie Sue Teffeteller Burchfield, age 66, of Maryville, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 19, 2005, after an extended illness. She was surrounded by her family and friends at the family home. Jackie Sue joined Edgewood Primitive Baptist Church in 1951. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the American Legion Post 13. She received a certificate of appreciation from the U.S.A.F. in recognition of her husband's retirement from active duty. During her husband's career with the U.S.A.F., she worked for the Air Force Exchange Service at several bases to which they were assigned. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Jack and Blanche Teffeteller; brother, Jerry Wayne Teffeteller; sister, Stella Mae Gibson; and daughter, Kathy Burchfield Long. Survivors include her husband, CMSGT William "Bill" Burchfield, U.S.A.F. Mr. Green worked for Tennessee Dept. of Employment Security for more than 32 years attaining the position of Director of Personnel Training and Asst. Commissioner. Ethel Cunningham Trundle, age 81 of Maryville passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2005 at Shannondale Health Care Center of Maryville. She was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church. She met her husband of 56 years, Max K. Trundle while working at ALCOA and they lived on the Trundle family farm in Wildwood all their married
life. She was preceded in death by: husband, Max K. Trundle; parents, Thomas and Edna Cunningham; brother, Carlos Cunningham; sister, Mildred Loveday. Survivors include: sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Kathy Trundle of Powell and Leon and Kerry Trundle of Maryville; grandchildren, Heather, Wendy, Andrew and Wesley Trundle; sisters, Troy Cunningham, Lona King and Ruby McCarter; brothers, Elmer and Wade Cunningham; several nieces and nephews. JAMES D. WALDROP
James D. Waldrop, age 80, died Wednesday, January 19, 2005. Mr. Waldrop was born in Grainger County, Tennessee on September 27, 1924. He was a honest, non-judgmental, caring, and strong man. He was a Staff Sergeant that served in WWII as a tail gunner on the B-24. On June 16, 1944 he was shot down over Yugoslavia and with the help of the Partisans and French Underground, he was able to get out of occupied territory. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Oak Leaf Cluster, and was a member of the Caterpillar Club for his emergency parachute jump under enemy fire. He was a Lieutenant for the Tennessee Highway patrol in Maryville, Tennessee and a Captain Air Police Officer with the Tennessee Air National Guard where he served in active duty during the Berlin Crisis. He was a 32nd Masonic Scottish Rite in Maryville, Tennessee. He attended the FBI Academy and was a Field Agent with the TBI in East Tennessee; he was promoted to Assistant Director in 1972 until retirement. He was employed by the TVA as head of security in Waverly and Gallatin until his second retirement. he was preceded in death by parents, James and Grace Waldrop and twin brother, William Joseph Waldrop. Survived by wife, Doris B. Waldrop; daughter, Lisa Anne Cornwell; grandson, James Wesley Cornwell; sister, Grace Evelyn Henderlight; nephew, James Douglas Henderlight.
