Freida Athalea Lane, 86 of Loudon passed away suddenly at Ft. Loudoun Medical Center, December 29, 2004. Member of Bethel United Methodist Church. preceded in death by: husband of 69 years, George W. Lane; two daughters, Patricia and Betty; parents, Bennie and Mary Belle Cannon; brother, Tyrus Cannon; two grandsons, Timothy and Travis; son-in-law, John Mills. Survivors include: sons and daughters-in-law, Bennie and Anna Mae Lane of Greenback, Gene and Kathy Lane of Alcoa; daughter, Margaret Mills of Loudon; grandchildren and spouses, Greg and Cristina Lane of Houston, TX, Gray and Kim Williams of Lenoir City, Stacy Mills of Loudon, Justin and Amanda Lane, Jeremy of Louisville, Jessica Mills and Isaac Burgess of Loudon; great-grandchildren, Brandon and Mikayla Williams, and Joshua and Aaron Lane; sisters, June Alexander of Maryville, Howard and Dorothy Bettis of Loudon, Mary Ellen Wallace of Harriman; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Larry and Kaye Cate, Tony and Bryan Lindsey. Funeral services 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Lane, Jeremy Lane, Ronnie Lane. Interment Loudon County Memorial Gardens. Billy Ray Moyers Sr., age 57 of Maryville died Wednesday, December 29, 2004 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was employed by Thermo-Fluid Technologies. preceded in death by: parents, Willie Lee Moyers Sr. and Bobbie Hurst. Survivors include: wife, Margaret Moyers; sons, Billy Ray Moyers Jr., Robert Holmes, and Gene Brewer all of Maryville; daughters and sons-in-law, Terri and Mike Shamblin, Tonya and Ryan Stansbury, TeAnna and Mitch Geary, and Tammi and Justin Loftis all of Maryville; daughters, Missy Simpson and Angie Tyler both of Maryville; 11 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; brothers, Gary Wayne Moyers of Knoxville and Willie Lee Moyers Jr. of Kentucky; sisters, Teresa Hopson and Sandra Goforth both of Knoxville; special friend, Mary Moyers. Funeral service will be at 8:00 p.m., Saturday, January 1, 2005 in the Trinity Chapel of Smith Mortuary. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 2, 2005 at Prospect Cemetery. HUGH THOMAS OWNBY
Hugh Thomas Ownby, age 87 of Maryville passed away Thursday, December 30, 2004 at Asbury Place. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Alcoa. He retired from ALCOA after 37 years of service and was a member of the ALCOA 25 Year Club. As a WW II veteran he served in the U.S. Army-Air Corps in the South Pacific for four years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Maude Ownby of Boyd's Creek.
Survivors: loving wife of 62 years: Lela Mae Sharp Ownby of Asbury Place in Maryville; daughter: Joyce Ownby Wallace of Maryville; daughter and son-in-law: Carole and Quentis Byerley of Tellico Village; grandsons: Phil Wallace and wife Jill, Quent Byerley and wife Britt; granddaughters: Amy Wallace Breedlove and husband Jeff, Sarah Byerley Long and husband Matthew; 5 great-grandsons; sisters: Ruth Hinchy of Atlanta and Grace Boling and Gladys York both of Knoxville; family friend: Fred Winkle; numerous nieces and nephews.
Hugh will be remembered for his love and sense of humor, and for the laughter he brought to all those around him.
The family gives thanks to Asbury Place staff for their loving care.
In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105 in honor of Mr. Ownby's great grandson, Ryan Breedlove.

Samuel Woodrow Best, age 87 of Maryville, passed away Monday, January 3, 2005, in Murfreesboro. He was a member of Alcoa First Baptist Church and a WW II Veteran having served in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his wife, Berma Lovin Best.
Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Patsy and Jack Morton of Murfreesboro, TN; granddaughters, Molly Pope and Dr. Beth Christian and her husband John; great-grandchildren, Alexander and Christopher Pope, Emilie Grace Christian; sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Bill Debord of Asheville, NC.
Funeral services will be at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2005 in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Scott Knight officiating. A private family interment will be in Grandview Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home.

Walter Lawrence Reiss, Jr.
Walter Lawrence Reiss, Jr., age 64 of Maryville, passed away Monday, January 3, 2005, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He attended Embassy Christian Center and was a retired painter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Walter Lawrence Reiss, Sr., and Evelyn Wagar Reiss.
Survivors include his wife, Mazie Bickford Reiss; sons and daughters-in-law, Matt and Sharla Reiss and Mark and Dena Reiss and their 3 children; daughter, Caroline Reiss; stepsons, James Forgan and wife Linda and Wayne Forgan and wife Lori; grandchildren, Wayne Jr., Katie and Jessica Forgan; brother, Paul Reiss and wife Nancy; sister, Mary Anne Norton; 2 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

ROBIN ANN CONNER
Robin Ann Conner, age 42, of Maryville, passed away January 6, 2005, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. She was born March 3, 1962.
To guide her along in her new journey will be her mother, Cynthia Ann Conner. To rejoice in her memory will be her father, Charles Moss Sr.; stepdaughter and grandson, Brittany and Conner Hudson; sisters, Gail Conner, Judy Knighton, Felicia Samuel and Carla Brown; brothers, Terry Jordon and Charles Moss Jr.; nephews, Korey Conner, Taylor and Nickolos Jordon.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005, at 6:30 p.m., at St. John Baptist Church, Alcoa. Private interment will be held at a later date. Foothills Funeral Home, Maryville, is in charge of arrangements.

Edward O. French, age 85, of Maryville passed away Saturday, January 8, 2005, at Blount Memorial Hospital. Member of Dotson Memorial Baptist Church. Was a veteran of WWII. A member of the Masonic Lodge 244. He was a lifelong deacon of the Second Baptist Church of Knoxville. Survivors include: wife of 63 years, Teneva French; son and daughter-in-law, James E. and Betty French of Vonore; daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Steve Woods of Maryville; grandchildren, Scott and Heather Woods of Maryville, Steve and Angela Llewellyn of Alcoa, Sean and Ildiko French of Fla., Tanya and Brad Price of Knoxville, Brad and Rachel Woods of Ky., Eric French of Knoxville, and Lindsay French of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews. Joshua Ray Gladden, age 23, of Friendsville, passed away Thursday, January 6, 2005, at UT Medical Center. He attended Heritage High School, and was employed by the Blount County Parks and Recreation. preceded in death by: father, Ricky Gladden; brother, Gerald Watson; grandfather, Howard Bailey. Survivors: mother and stepfather, Ventrice Kay and Jim West of Maryville; grandmother, Lucy J. Bailey of Maryville; stepsisters, Sherry Russell of Alcoa, Tonya Jarman of Maryville; cousins, Christina Pluger, Robert Cushman, Michelle Bailey, Brandy Hubbard and several other cousins; uncles, Michael Foster, Ben Gladden; aunts, Freda Holder, Brenda Boling, Patsy Sutton. Funeral service 8:00 p.m. Sunday, January 9, 2005, at Miller Funeral Home Magnolia Chapel, Rev. Bill Hearon officiating. ANTHONY `TONY' JOHNS
Anthony (Tony) Johns, age 44, went to be with our Lord and Savior on January 7, 2005. He was born in Waco, Texas, on August 24, 1960.
He was employed by M&L Sound of Knoxville and considered one of the top concert sound engineers in the southeast. Tony graduated from Bearden High School and was a member of Central Baptist Church of Bearden, Knoxville.
His life father, Harold Johns of Portland, Ore., preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Donna Johns, and daughter, Amy Garland of Maryville; his mother and dad, Frank and Mary Alexander of Sturgis, S.D.; stepmother, Irmi Johns of Portand, Ore.; brother, Wayne Alexander, wife Lee and nephew Zachary of Wichita Falls, Texas; Sister, Sheila Johns Heimbach, husband Dean and their children Paige and Mitchell of Laguna Niguel, Calif.
Family and friends will meet 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Grandview cemetery for the graveside service and interment. The family will receive friends 7:00-9:00 p.m. Monday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home.

ELLA MAE VARNER LANGSTON
Ella Mae Varner Langston, age 84, of 1871 Topside Road, Louisville, was born December 17, 1920, in Calhoun, Georgia to the late Robert Lee and Goldie Simpson Varner. She departed this life on January 6, 2005, at 1:35 p.m. at University of Tennessee Medical Center.
She was a devoted member of Mt. Zion A.M.E. Zion Church, Louisville, and a very dedicated missionary. She was a retired Registered Nurse, trained at Meharry Medical College, Nashville, and worked over 30 years, in Knox County hospital, and in Ford Hospital in Detroit, Mich., and also as a private duty nurse.
Preceeded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph C. Langston; three sisters, and brother, Robert E. Varner. Survivors are four sisters, Mabel Davis, Helen Trent and Pauline (Limon) Bacon all of Knoxville, and Irene (Wilbert) Sowell of Cleveland, Ohio; one brother, Lee (Vivian) Varner, also of Knoxville; two aunts, Odie Bell Boone and Mabel Suggs; sister-in-law, Eleanor Varner; several devoted nieces and nephews, and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Sunday January 9, 2005, at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of Foothills Funeral Home, 910 E. Lincoln Rd., Maryville, with Rev. Barbara Haigler officiating. The family will receive friends thirty minutes before the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens in Alcoa, Foothills Funeral Home in charge of all arrangements.
MILDRED MAE MCDONELL
Mildred Mae McDonell, age 79, of Greenback, formerly of Chattanooga, died Friday, January 7, 2005, at Blount Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) McDonell Sr.; son, William (Bill) McDonell Jr.; and parents, Ulysses and Ruth Walker.
Survivors include her daughters, Pat Delozier and Johnnie Hewitt, both of Greenback; son, Barney McDonell of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Joe Delozier III, Jerry Delozier, and Jama Everett; great-grandchildren, Taylor Everett, Austin and Jenna Delozier; brothers and sisters-in-law, Wilbert and Violet Walker of Maryville, Neubert and Joyce Walker of Greeneville; sister, Moseline Hammontree; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Donnie Glandon, all of Greenback.
Funeral service will be 8:00 p.m. Monday, January 10, 2005, in the Dotson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. George Macht, officiating. Interment will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 11, 2005, at Grandview Cemetery.
