Carl Reece Britton, age 76 of Maryville, died Thursday, March 2, 2000, at his home. He was a member of Monte Vista Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II having served with the U.S. Navy and a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served with the U.S. Army. Following World War II, Mr. Britton conducted military funerals for those who gave their lives for their country. He had been a member of New Providence Masonic Lodge #128 F&AM since April 30, 1946. For many years, he coordinated the Blount County Law Enforcement Officer's Day breakfast honoring officers in Maryville, Alcoa and Blount County. He conducted his own prison ministry in which he counseled short-term prisoners. He was responsible for the Korean Conflict Monument which honored those who served from Blount County and is now on display at the National Guard Armory. He was in the banking industry over 40 years in different areas of the Southeast. Previous to his death, he was involved in the coordination of services and a Web site for the visually impaired. Mr. Britton was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Bessie Cochran Britton; daughter, Linda Melton; grandsons, Jeffrey Woodard and Brian Melton; sister, Ruth Britton Chambers.
Survivors: wife, Laverne H. Britton; daughters, Barbara Bierce of Marietta, Ga., Carla Woodard, Lisa Rule, all of Maryville; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother A.B. Britton of Maryville.
Helen Elona Duckett, 76, widow of William R.V. Duckett, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000 in Montgomery, Alabama. Born in Schwientochlowitz, Germany, she was a daughter of the late Ludwig and Anna Schweitza. Survivors include three sons, William Ronald Duckett and his wife, Susan Duckett of Montgomery, Ala., Robert Dean Duckett of Dalzell, S.C., Gary Kavin of Maryville, Tenn.; a daughter, Vivian Jeannette Pearson and her husband, Michael Pearson of Columbia, S.C., ; six sisters and brothers-in-law, Lee and June Duckett of Morrison, Tenn., Arnold Duckett of Maryville, Tenn., Lillian and Buddy Lambert of Alcoa, Tenn., Evelyn Charlton of Maryville, Tenn., and Billy Thomas of Maryville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Michael D. and Stacy Pearson II, Melinda D. and Shane Ransom, William J. Duckett, Natalie J. Pearson, Daniel C. Duckett, Jonathan S. Duckett, Brian R. Duckett, Stephanie M. Duckett and Tyler V. Conner; 13 nieces and nephews; 16 great nieces and nephews.
Joseph Clay 'Joe' Evans, age 24 of Maryville died at 1:10 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. He was President of the 1993 Senior Class at Heritage High School and an employee of Denso Manufacturing.

Peter Jackson Park, MD, age 53, of Morrison, Colorado, died on March 24, 2000 after an extended illness.
David Clarence Dorr, MD, FACS, age 77, died Sunday, June 18, 2000 at Quality Care Assisted Living Center. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Maryville. He was a Southern Baptist Missionary Doctor for 17 years in the Gaza Strip, Palestine, and served at the Baptist Hospital in Yemen. In August 1943 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Corps. He was assigned to the 24th Bomb Squadron, 6th Bomb Group and shipped out to the island of Tinian. He served as a radar operator on a B-29. For 30 missions over Japan and helping his teammates under fire, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with five oak leaf clusters.
LANDRY, GERALD JOSEPH, 55, Maryville, died Sunday, June 18 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He worked for CSX Railroad and the Blount County School Board. - 06/19/00

Betty Chilson, age 73, of Maryville, died at 5:30 a.m., Friday, June 16, 2000, at Blount Memorial Hospital. preceded in death by parents, James and Emily Winn; son, Douglas; daughter, Malinda; grandson, Jeremy.
Ben Grindstaff, age 88, of Maryville, died Friday, June 16, 2000, at the family home. He was a member of Old Piney Grove Baptist Church.
Dewey F. 'Buck' Jenkins, age 56, of Maryville, departed this life at 12:55 a.m., Thursday, June 15, 2000, and went to be with the Lord. He was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church. He served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps during Vietnam War. He was preceded in death by his father, I.L. Jenkins and brother, Benny Jenkins.

John Edward Addington, age 71, of Maryville, passed away Monday afternoon, June 12, 2000, at UT Medical Center. He was of the Baptist faith; retired from ALCOA and member of the 25 year club; former officer of the Maryville City Police Department; veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean Conflict; preceded in death by parents, Stephen G. and Kitty Addington; sister, Juanita Addington; brother, Robert Lee Addington.
C. Raymond 'Buddy' Henderson Sr., age 80 of Maryville, died Monday, June 12, 2000, at 1:00 a.m. at Blount Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was in automobile sales for almost 50 years, was former co-owner of Henderson-Worley Motors, was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church, and was a World War II veteran. His most recent hobby was repairing antique clocks.

and raised four children and traveled the world over. He was born on May 28, 1931 and lost his fight with Mantle Cell Lymphoma on September 28, 1999. He served in the United States Air Force for 28 years at locations throughout the U.S., Europe, and Africa. He loved his family, his country, his garden, and laughter.

Member of Central Baptist Church of Alcoa, retired minister, pastored churches in Monroe Co. in the Sweetwater Baptist Association, retired from Alcoa City School System, also taught school in the Monroe Co. School System.

He was a member of Parkway Christian Fellowship Church in Alcoa and retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service as a Sergeant (E-5). He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lillie Reed Hobby and sister, Ada Murphy.
Wilma Sue Bennett, age 68 of Alcoa, died Saturday, May 20, 2000 at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Alcoa, where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the choir. Retired from the Alcoa School System after 31 years of service.

Jerry Lee Gregory, of Lakeland Fla., formerly of Maryville, passed away suddenly Friday August 11, 2000, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Lakeland, Fla. He was preceded in death by his father John Arley Gregory. He is survived by: his wife, Linda; son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Kimberly Gregory and son Jay Gregory all of Lakeland, Fla.
