GEORGE AUBURN ROLEN
George Auburn Rolen, age 79, of Maryville, died Saturday October 23, 2004. He was retired from Alcoa, Inc. after 25 years of service. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a Signalman 3rd class on the LST930.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Minnie Rolen, and his sister, Erma Dee Stewart.
Survivors: wife of 49 years, Golee Rolen; daughter and Son-in-law, Janet and Van Lidvall of Alcoa; son, Ed Rolen of Maryville; grandchildren, Carly and Kristin Lidvall, Anna and Edward Rolen; sister, Anna Lee Rolen; brother, Gene Rolen.
Funeral service 7 p.m. Monday in the East Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Andy Ball, Rev. Melvin Carr and Rev. Ellis Adams officiating. Interment 11 a.m. Tuesday in Grandview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville.

CHARLES DENNIS GAINES
Charles Dennis Gaines was born on August 12, 1926, to the late Samuel R. Gaines and Mattie Jones Gaines, in Sweetwater, TN. He is preceded in death by brothers, Benjamin and Leonard Gaines; sister, Gloria Clark; and daughter, Constance Gaines Tate.
He was educated in the Charles M. Hall School system and served in the Armed Forces of the United States. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant A.M.E. Zion Church in Rockford, TN.
He is survived by wife, Flora Gaines, Knoxville, TN; devoted daughters, Barbara Gaines, Alcoa, TN and Renea Gaines Monger, Louisville, KY, and Erma Brooks, Huber Heights, OH; devoted son, Dennis Gaines, Knoxville, TN; and a stepdaughter, Denise Jones, Knoxville, TN; son-in-law, Richard Tate, Jr., Rockford, TN; sister, Minnette Criner, Detroit, MI; two brothers, Samuel Gaines, Louisville, TN and Clarence (Shirley) Gaines, Alcoa, TN; sisters-in-law, Matilda Gaines, Sweetwater, TN; Josephine Shockley, Alcoa, TN; Della Shute, Maryville, TN; Ola (Harrison) Gretter, Silver Springs, MD; and Fern Porter, Knoxville, TN; fifteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; very devoted care giver, Carmen Wilson and children, Mark and Christopher Wilson, Knoxville, TN; long life friends, Tommy and Virginia Snapp.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, October 30, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant AME Zion Church, Rockford with Rev. Carl Liggins delivering the eulogy. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Knoxville. The body may be viewed after noon Friday at Foothills Funeral Home, 910 E. Lincoln Rd., Maryville.
MARY JANE SHOEMAKER
Mary Jane Shoemaker, age 71 of Maryville, passed away Wednesday, October 27, 2004 at U.T. Medical Center. She was a member of Liberty Christian Church and preceded in death by husband, Vernon Louis Shoemaker; parents, Wesley Carlton and Lelia Thompson Whitehead and sister, Carlene Spueldea. Survivors include son and daughter in law, David and Rhonda Shoemaker of Knoxville; grandchildren, Cody, Bryan, Sarah and Briana Shoemaker all of Knoxville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Pat and Fred Tipton, Elanor and Rex Webb and Judy Helton all of Maryville; brother and sister-in-law, Wesley and Glenda Whitehead of Maryville; special nephew, Donald 'Donnie' Webb of Maryville; several other nephews and nieces. Funeral service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 29, 2004 at Miller Funeral Home Cedar Chapel, Rev. Robert Burnett officiating. Family and friends will meet at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Liberty Christian Church cemetery for the interment service. DAVIS, CHARLES EDWARD 'CHICK, ' 73, Goodlettsville, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004. Survived by wife, Angie Lynia Rye Davis; son, Richard Davis; stepdaughter, Lynne (Jim) Carroll; one stepgrandson; beloved grandchildren; brothers, Ronald L. Davis, Greenville, S.C., Bobby Lynn Davis, Smyrna, Ga. He was retired from the maintenance department of Metro Public School. Service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday in the Forest Lawn Chapel. Ruby Lane DeLozier
Ruby Lane DeLozier, age 88 of Maryville, passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2004, at Maryville Healthcare Center. She was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women and sang in the Choir for many years. She retired from Maryville College as a Home Economics teacher, was a past member of AAUW, past member of Maryville Music Club and a volunteer and charter member of the Blount Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Mrs. DeLozier was preceded in death by her husband, Fred DeLozier; parents, C. S. and Lela Alexander Lane; brother, Bill Lane.
Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Sara and Rev. Steve Tuck of Knoxville; son, Charles DeLozier and Mary Barker of Maryville; grandson, John Tuck; granddaughter, Suzanne Parton and husband Chris of Maryville; great grandchildren, Kevin Parton and Trevor Parton; sisters, Mildred Curtis, Ruth Prewett both of Maryville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Stan Huddleston of NC, Barbara and Gilbert Hartsell of Lenoir City; sister-in-law, Mary Jo Chambers of Hendersonville, TN; several nieces, nephews and cousins; special friend, Jretta Black.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dan Moore and Rev. Ron Matthews officiating. The interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Gardens.

LT. COLONEL DOLORES `DEE' M. COUCH ANDERSON
Lt. Colonel Dolores, 'Dee, ' M. Couch Anderson, 42, of Tampa died suddenly on Thursday, October 28, 2004 at her home in Schertz, TX. Born October 10, 1962, she was predeceased by her twin, Robert Bruce, as well as brothers, Raymond Jr., Ralph Thornton, Leonard Thomas, Raymond Bruce; her father, Raymond B. Couch; fraternal grandmother, Marjorie L. Couch; maternal grandparents, Rosa Lee Moore Robinette and Jule Moore; and her precious Weimaraners, Ginger and Aileron. She is survived by her mother, Lois M. Couch; sisters, Beverly (Mike) Jillson, Shirley (Danny) Melvin, Nancy L.Couch (Jennifer), Mary Ellen (Buzz) King and Susan (John) Cacyuk; uncles and aunts, Carl and Del Fields, Ted and Marty Couch and Tony and Bonnie Couch; nieces, nephews, cousins and an extended family of friends in Tampa, FL and in San Antonio and Schertz, TX. Dolores is an alumnus of Hillsborough High School and the University of South Florida. She graduated 2nd Lieutenant, R.O.T.C., enlisted and proudly served in the United States Air Force. She was promoted rapidly, serving in Kuwait, Baghdad and Afghanistan in 2003 as Director of Public Affairs. She returned to Lackland AFB as Director of Public Affairs and was a candidate for promotion to Colonel at the time of her death. Dolores was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Tiny in stature, she possessed a giant's heart, a passion for aviation, an adventurous spirit and a love of life. She was never too busy to make herself available to others. She effortlessly lifted you up, making you feel better about yourself than you may sometimes have had the right to feel. She was the personification of life, love, joy, dedication, and integrity, and leaves a huge void in all our lives. Family will receive friends, Thursday, November 4, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Marsicano Funeral Home, 4040 Henderson Blvd, Tampa, FL 33629-4940. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Epiphany of Our Lord Catholic Church, Friday at 10 a.m. A private inurnment will occur at a later date. Ida Cordell (Nee Gredig) Carnes, age 86 of Cincinnati, OH, formerly of Maryville, TN died Thursday, October 28, 2004 in Cincinnati, OH. preceded in death by: husband, Joe H. Carnes; daughter, Sylvia Lynn Carnes; son, Arthur H. Carnes. Survivors include: daughters, Linda Jo Carnes of Cincinnati, OH and Helen Ann Newton of California; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Anna Lee of Maryville and Gladys Raines of Maryville. Funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, November 6, 2004 at Smith Mortuary. Entombment will follow in Grandview Cemetery. DR. WALTER K. HOFFMAN JR.
Dr. Walter K. Hoffman Jr., age 82 of Maryville, passed away Monday, November 1, 2004 at his home. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee and served in the Army Medical Corp during WWII. He was the founder of the Medical Group in Memphis in the mid 1950s. Dr. Hoffman practiced medicine from 1945-1999. He was the past president of Memphis and Tennessee Heart Associations. He served on many community boards in Memphis, including Memphis Medical Society, Arts Council, Boys Club, Little Theater, Southwestern College Mayor's Advisory Committee. He was an active member of Logan's Chapel United Methodist Church since moving to Maryville in 2000. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother. Survivors include, wife, Phyllis B. Hoffman; son, Dr. Phillip K. Hoffman of Maryville; daughters, Deborah Hoffman Alpern of West Bath, Maine, Reverend Judith Hoffman of Nashville, Kristin Hoffman Jones of Chesapeake, VA, Kelley Hoffman Hook of Downers Grove, IL; nine grandchildren. Mary Ann Riden Brown died Saturday, October 30, 2004, at her family home. She was the daughter of Sherman Riden and Minnie Headrick Riden. She was a charter member of Grandview Baptist Church. preceded in death by: husband, Bee A. Brown; father, Sherman S. Riden; mother, Minnie H. Riden; grandson, Shawn Brown. Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, Donald A. and Dawn Brown of Winston-Salem, N.C., and son Randall A. Brown of Maryville; grandchildren, Travis Brown, Rachel and Taylor Bee Brown; sister, Gloria R. Hembree of Maryville; aunt, Alice Headrick; and several nieces and nephews. James H. Bryant, age 87, of Maryville passed away Saturday, October 30, 2004, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was of the Baptist Faith. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in WWII where he received a purple heart for his service. He retired from ALCOA (Topaco Inc.) after 38 years of service. preceded in death by: parents; Robert and Beulah Cook Bryant; brothers, Harley and Robert Bryant; sisters, Ethel Tipton and Mary Lou Clark. Lora Murphy Wilson, age 91, of Maryville, passed away Sunday, October 31, 2004, at Colonial Hills Nursing Center. She was a member of Carpenters United Methodist Church. preceded in death by husband, Ralph H. Wilson; daughters-in-law, Dorothy Wilson and Judy Wilson; parents, John C. and Evelyn Carpenter Murphy; seven brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include: daughters and sons-in-law, Helen and Harold Tuck, Sue and Orville Boring of Maryville, Lyda and Winston Helton of Knoxville, Bobby and Chuck Ray of Greenback; sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Pat Wilson of Maryville, Lynn and Judy Wilson of Knoxville; grandchildren, Sandra Boruff, Jeff Tuck, Chucky Ray, Kim Gregg, Hal Helton, Robin Ridlon, Becky Nelson, Tina Wilson, Mark Boring and Kelly Proffitt; step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
