Frank W. Roberts Sr., age 95 of Friendsville, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at Colonial Hills Nursing Home. Frank retired from ALCOA Aluminum Company and was a member of Bungalow Methodist Church where he served as choir director. preceded in death by: wife, Ruby Sims Roberts; parents, West and Pearl Roberts; brother, W.C. Roberts; sister, Blanche Ogle. Survivors include: sons and daughters-in-law, Dearl and Aileen Roberts, Bill and Rachel Roberts, Frank Jr. and Bella Roberts; grandchildren, Keela Roberts Samis, Melody Roberts McCammon, Robin Roberts, Mark Roberts, Matthew Roberts, Bo Davis; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will assemble for graveside service and interment at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, July 31, 2004 at Grandview cemetery with Rev. Ted Ogle and Rev. W. C. Bennett officiating. Friends may call at their convenience after 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 31, 2004 at Smith Mortuary, Maryville, 865-983-1000.

JAMES O. WOODS JR.
James O. Woods Jr., 75 of Maryville died Thursday July 29, 2004 at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents: James O. and Nannie Jane Waller Woods Sr.; son, Jess Allen Woods; brothers, Jess, John, and Chester Woods; sisters, Della Mae Strickland, Ruby Keller, and Lucille Rich. He is survived by his wife of 52 Years: Nola Louella Goings Woods; son: Danny Woods; grandchildren: Melissa Tillery, Josh Woods, Jared Woods and Jake Woods; great-grandchildren: Will and Zack Tillery, and Elyza Woods, sister: Edna Millsaps. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in the Korean War. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2004 at Memorial Funeral Home in Maryville, with graveside funeral services will be at Forest Hill cemetery following the visitation with Rev. Tyson McKeehan officiating. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial donations may be made to Gethsemane Baptist Church 5444 Cedar Church Lane Greenback, TN 37742.

CONDA JEAN `CONNIE' COOPER
Conda Jean 'Connie' Cooper, 51, of Detroit, Michigan, formerly of Maryville departed this life Wednesday, July 21, 2004.
She was preceded in death by her father, Luke Paul Cooper.
She is survived by a son, Shawn Cooper of Detroit; mother, Doris Jean Romero of Maryville; brother, Dennis Lee Cooper of Maryville; sisters, Rita Teffeteller of Louisville, Joy Lucero of Alcoa; 3 nieces, Crystal, Tamara, and Lori; one great-niece, Trinity; and a host of family and friends.
Services were held Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at Swanson Funeral Home in Detroit.

HELEN GERTRUDE SHERWOOD HARRIS
Helen Gertrude Sherwood Harris, age 70 of Maryville passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at U.T. Medical Center. preceded in death by parents, Robert C. Sherwood Sr. and Eva Rose Kirkland Sherwood; brothers, Charles Eugene Sherwood, Robert Sherwood Jr. and James W. Sherwood; brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Agnes Harris, Doak and Zelda Harris, Imogene Lambert and Julian Harris.
Survived by her husband, Hoyt Calloway Harris; daughters and sons-in-law, Helen and Bill Adkins of Chattanooga, TN, Margaret and Dexter Daffron of Friendsville, Imogene and Gary Lambert of Louisville, KY; sons and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Pam Dorsey of Louisville, Gary Lynn Dorsey of Maryville; four grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. Millard Frances Wilson of Maryville, Mrs. Bill Effie Genovese of New Jersey; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ben and Ethel Sherwood of Dandridge, TN, Wayne and Martha Harris of Madisonville, John and Pauline Huffstetler of Maryville.
Funeral service 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 29, 2004 at Miller Funeral Home Magnolia Chapel Rev. Kenneth Holder officiating. Graveside and interment service 10:00 a.m. Friday at Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.

ROYLEE JOHNSON
Roylee Johnson, age 80, born November 23, 1923 passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2004. Roylee was known as the 'Can Man, ' due to his efforts to beautify Blount County as he gathered and recycled cans from along the roadways. He walked several miles per day on a regular basis, collecting cans as he went. Through this effort Roylee made many friends and his ever-ready smile will be remembered by people throughout the area. Roylee was a charter member of Broadway Baptist Church of Maryville where he attended regularly until his declining health made it impossible. In recent years he has resided at Maryville Healthcare Center. He was preceded in death by: parents, Luther E. Johnson and Gertrude Mitchell Johnson. Survivors include: brother, Luther F. Johnson; sister-in-law, Evelyn Johnson; devoted cousins, Ed, Kim, Josh, and Jordan Mitchell; cousin, Dorotha Mitchell, and other cousins, nieces, and nephews. Funeral service will be at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, July 31, 2004 in the Trinity Chapel of Smith Mortuary with Rev. Luther Johnson and Rev. Jeff Johnson officiating. Eulogy will be by Ed Mitchell. Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials donations may be made to: Keep Blount Beautiful, 1004 E. Lamar Alexander Pkwy., Maryville, TN 37804. JACKIE LEWIS MCCOLLUM
Jackie Lewis McCollum, age 77 of Maryville, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at Morning View Transitional Center. She was a member of New Providence Presbyterian Church and was preceded in death by her father, Banner Lewis; mother, Essie Herron; son, Sam McCollum, III; brother, James R. Lewis and nephew, Tommy Lewis.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Sam McCollum; daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Phillip Benefield of Nashville and Becky Gibson and Eddie Pierce of Alcoa; grandchildren, Joseph and Grayson Fagan of Nashville; brothers, Bill (Penny) Lewis of Candler, NC, Harry (Alice) Lewis of Robbinsville, NC; sister-in-law, Margaret Lewis of Friendsville; former sister-in-law, Jeanette Lewis of Las Vegas, NV; nieces and nephews, Kay (Mike) Wade of Russellville, KY, Tom (Betty) Ferguson of Dothan, AL, Jean (Leo) Beaulieu of St. Johnsbury, VT, David (Karen) Ferguson of San Diego, CA, Dotty (Quayle Neslen) Parton of Sylva, NC; aunts, Mary (MT) Cartledge of Leesburg, FL, Evelyn Carson of Huntsville, AL; and a number of cousins, great nieces and great nephews.
The interment service will be Friday in Magnolia cemetery with a 2:00 p.m. memorial service to follow at New Providence Presbyterian Church with Rev. Philip Bembower and Rev. Joe Colquitt officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Eakin, Norman Jeffries, Marshall Lyons, Larry Meyers, John Schwartz, and Tom Walker.
Memorials may be made to New Providence Presbyterian Church, 703 W. Broadway, Maryville, TN 37801 or to a charity of your choice.

MARY BERNICE DOUTHAT
Mary Bernice Douthat, age 101, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at Maryville Healthcare Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Douthat; son, Max Douthat. Survivors include daughter, Beatrice Knipp of Maryville; sons, Joe Kyle (Lougene) Douthat of Brooksville, Fla., Billy (Nancy) Douthat of Knoxville; daughter-in-law, Margie Douthat Williams of Greenville; sister, Ruth Shipley of Morristown. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Thursday, July 29, 2004, at Fairview Baptist Church in Mohawk, Tenn., with interment to follow in Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 2:00-3:00 p.m. prior to the services at the church. Arrangements by Westside Chapel Funeral Home, Morristown.

CYNTHIA SUE STEELE
Cynthia Sue Steele, age 50, of Knoxville, passed away Monday, July 26, 2004 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Knoxville. She was preceded in death by her father, Forest Hinkle, Jr. She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Connie Wages of Knoxville, Crystal Hemphill of Knoxville, and Tanya and Clint Amburn of Greenback; son and daughter-in-law, Roger G. and Tyia Steele of Sweetwater; grandchildren, Cameron Varnell, Tyler Hemphill, Madison Hemphill, Garrett Loftis, Sami Jo Wages, Roger G. Steele, III, and Labe Amburn; mother, Constance Hinkle of Maryville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Carolyn and Cyrus Martin, III of Vonore, Melody and Marshall Arp of Vonore, Deborah and James Nelson of Indiana, Sherl and Myron Wise of Indiana; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Family and friends will meet at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, July 29, 2004 at Union Grove Baptist Church cemetery for the graveside service and interment, Rev. Ronnie Moore officiating. At the family request there will be no visitation. Arrangements are through Miller Funeral Home of Maryville.

DONALD MILLER TUCKER
Donald Miller Tucker, age 81 of Knoxville, died Sunday July 25, 2004 following a sudden onset of pneumonia. Mr. Tucker worked his long career with his brother, Thomas M. Tucker and father, R.S. Tucker, who founded Power Equipment Company. He succeeded his father as president and chairman of the board. Mr. Tucker attended St. Andrews School of Middletown, DE and served in the U.S. Army. He attended the University of Tennessee, where he was an active member of SAE Fraternity and graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering. He was a member of Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church and was active in civil organizations including the United Way, YMCA, and the Salvation Army including serving on many of their boards. He was an enthusiastic sports fan and U.T. supporter, and for many years, an avid jogger, hiker and gardener. He was preceded in death by his son, Ray H. Tucker; parents, R.S. Tucker and Blanche McMahon Tucker; and brother, Thomas McMahon Tucker, Sr. He is survived by his wife, Jo-Anne Kuhlo Tucker; children, Mark H. Tucker of Kingsport, Janie Tucker Gibbs of Bradenton, FL, Julianne Tucker Hartman of Davidson, NC, Donald Tucker of Cambridge, Mass, Joan Tucker Fife of Orinda, CA, and Sheila Tucker Reno of Maryville; niece, Rev. Louisa Tucker Parsons of Signal Mtn.; nephew, Thomas M. Tucker, Jr. of Knoxville; his 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The family will receive friends 1-2:00 p.m. Wednesday followed by the service at 2:00 p.m. at Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Louisa Tucker Parsons and Rev. Roy Zinn officiating. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, 409 N. Broadway, Knoxville, TN 37917 or Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church, 9132 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37923. Arrangements by Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.

SAMUEL EDWARD ANDERSON
Samuel Edward Anderson, age 76, passed away July 25 in Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas. He was formerly from Maryville, Tennessee and had retired from a job in Illinois, where he had worked for many years and had moved to Arkansas. He was preceded in death by parents, James and Lou Ella Anderson; and sister, Mary Ruth Hood.
Survivors include his wife, Marion Anderson; former wife, Virginia Giffin; sons, Eddie Anderson and wife Maria of Joliet, Illinois, Ricky Anderson of California; daughter, Gail Anderson of Joliet, Illinois, and Debbie Anderson of Springfield, Illinois; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews; brother, Jesse L. Anderson of Luttrell, Tennessee; sisters, Maggie Wilburn, and Katherine Ward, both of Maryville, Tennessee. Funeral was the 29th of July at Horseshoe Bend Memorial Chapel in Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas. Officiating minister, Reverend Leonard Smith. Interment was at Violet Hill cemetery in Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas. He was well liked and played many music instruments that he played often in the church he attended and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

J.R. BUCHANAN
J.R. Buchanan, age 77 of Happy Valley passed away Tuesday August 3, 2004 at his home. He was a member of Happy Valley Missionary Baptist Church and was a retired Park Ranger from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park Service. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army serving during WWII. He was preceded in death by his parents, Green and Dosha Hearon Buchanan; brothers, Marvin Leon 'Joe' Buchanan, and Luke Buchanan.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Hatley Buchanan; son and daughter-in-law, Wesley and Yolanda Buchanan, of Maryville; daughter and son-in-law, Vicky and Ronnie Taylor, of Petros, TN.; step-mother, Annie Buchanan; granddaughters, Bethany Buchanan, and Linsay Buchanan; step-granddaughter, Emily Taylor; brother, Tom Buchanan; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bert and Thelma Buchanan, Wayne and Carolyn Buchanan, all of Maryville, Leonard and Wanda Buchanan, of Locust Grove, GA, James and Lois Buchanan, of Maryville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Janice and Rich Novotny, of Cataula, GA, Rosemary and Jimmy Hannah, of Greenback, Hope and Jimmie Rapier, Lorraine and Tommy Ray, both of Maryville; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 8:00 p.m. Friday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Whitehead and Rev. Beecher Whitehead officiating. Family and friends will meet 12:00 noon Saturday at Happy Valley Missionary Baptist cemetery for the interment service.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville, 982-6812.

RONNIE GILBERT
Ronnie Gilbert went to be with the Lord July 31, 2004. He was born April 16, 1939. He was preceded in death by his son, Ronnie Jr.; and beloved wife of 44 years, Sarah Dixon Gilbert.
He is survived by daughters, Mary King from New Jersey, Wanda and son-in-law, Bill Campbell from Maryville; son and daughter-in-law, James and Angie Gilbert; 7 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren; brother, Jim from Kentucky.
No services at this time. A celebration of Ronnie and Sarah's life is planned for a later date.

KIRK T. MCQUEEN
Kirk T. McQueen, age 51 of Greenback passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. He was employed with Norfolk Southern for 26 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Marilynn McQueen; brother, Mike McQueen. Survivors include wife, Tina McQueen; sons, Michael McQueen and Stephen McQueen; sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Mike Pelfrey of FL; sister-in-law, Jolene Steinmeyer of FL; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Sherry Bauer; several nieces and nephews. Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 7, 2004 in the Trinity Chapel of Smith Mortuary with Rev. Mike Lee officiating. A private graveside service will follow at Cloyd's Creek Cemetery. Friends may call at their convenience Thursday, August 5, 2004 after 8:00 a.m. at Smith Mortuary, Maryville, 983-1000.

MILDRED T. BARDILL
Mildred T. Bardill, of Maryville, died Friday, August 6, 2004, at St. Mary's.
She was born in Cades Cove. She was a member of Piney Level Baptist Church, and attended Maryville First United Methodist Church. She worked for Parks Belk for many years, and was retired from Avis Rent-A-Car. She was Past Worthy Matron, Mary Blount Chapter 133.
She is preceded in death by her first husband Glenn M. Denton, parents Sam and Sally Tipton, brothers Arlie, Henry, Cliff, Wiley, and Gerald Tipton, and sister Nancy Wright, all of Maryville.
She is survived by her husband, E. Hugh Bardill; daughters, Glenda Denton and Rhonda Denton of Maryville; stepdaughters Patricia Hinton of Knoxville, Susan Montgomery of Houston Texas; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; sister, Loetta Williams of Maryville, brother, Rev. Don Tipton of Beech Island SC.
The funeral service will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. George Macht and Rev. Larry Carroll officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The family and friends will meet at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Sherwood Memorial Gardens for the entombment.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Piney Level Baptist Church, 3527 Piney Level Church Rd., Maryville TN 37801 or Garst Sunday School Class at Maryville First United Methodist Church, 804 Montvale Station Rd. Maryville TN 37803. McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home in charge.
